The doublestrike on this card isn't unnecessary or redundant as stated by previous posters because it infect a lot more deadly.

This card is built to interact with Nightveil Specter. They're the same colors, the third ability is made to exploit the specter's "does damage to a player" ability and the second ability kills opposing specters in the mirror. Dimir wil play this.

    My $0.02

    1. Selesnya- Best stand alone card
    2. Izzet- 2nd best stand alone card and best charm for control/tempo
    3. Golgari- Just so damn dood in aggro (zombies especially)
    4. Azorius-3rd ability is devastating, others are situational at best
    5. Rakdos- Sideboard card in some decks

Snapcaster gets my vote. He is clearly the best creature in standard, without question.

This card is insane and should be a 4 of in any mid- range or control deck running red. Sure 1 on the board isn't that impressive but if you get 2 down you're putting a lot of pressure on the other guy.

Just think about this in some kind of U/R counter-burn deck. Drawing problem solved.

All you would have to do is draw, go and wait.

Mimic Vat in my B/R control deck. If I can get either Primeval Titan or Wormcoil Engine imprinted on it it's gg.

    What do you guys think?

Darksteel Axe and Phylactery Lich is the combo I've been looking for.

I think there is an argument for Abysal Persecutor in Jund and Vampires, but neither of those decks really need him. I set out to build a MBC deck and couldn't even fit him into that one (used vampires instead.)

The only deck that I built that I think fully needs him and can make him useful is my B/W aggro build:

    Maindeck:

    3 Abysal Persecutor
    4 Bloodghast
    4 Emeria Angel
    4 Tidehollow Sculler

    4 Day of Judgement
    4 Path to Exile
    4 Oblivion Ring

    4 Duress
    3 Sign in Blood
    3 Quest for the Gravelord

    4 Arcane Sanctum
    4 Marshflats
    1 Dread Statuary
    6 Plains
    6 Swamps
    2 Terramorphic Expanse

    Sideboard:

    4 Kor Firewalker
    4 Zealous Persecution
    4 Pithing Needle
    3 Identity Crisis

So far this is my A.P. deck. I run MBC vampires and this. This deck isn't as versitile against the meta as my black deck because it dosen't run Mind Sludge, I win every game I resolve it, but it's good.

A.P. and DoJ both make each other a little bit better in this build also.

Total Count: 4 Marsh Flats. I bought 4 for $45. Of that, $25 of that was store credit I won in FNM. I use them to thin out my MBC deck. Check out my list. I have never lost a match in a tournament that I didn't get mana-screwed with this thing:

    4 Gatekeeper of Malakir
    4 Malakir Bloodwitch
    4 Vampire Nighthawk

    4 Duress
    4 Disfigure
    3 Mind Sludge
    4 Sign in Blood
    4 Tendrils of Corruption
    4 Quest for the Gravelord

    1 Liliana Vess
    1 Sorin Markov

    18 Swamp
    4 Marsh Flats
    1 Gargoyle Castle

    Sideboard:

    3 Ob Nixilis, the Fallen
    4 Pithing Needle
    4 Infest
    4 Deathmark

Those fetch-lands were the best $20 cash investment in cards I've made in a long time. They thin my deck and work well Ob Nixilis. I don't know if I plan to get any other ones though.

., the combo just feels fat and slow.

Exactly...that's why the only way to do it is as I referrenced on post #72. Any other way in this standard won't even be tier 4. My way kills at FNM..as long as it dosen't get mana-screwed.

Here's another way to look at Bloodghast. I run a playset in my FNM deck and he works great in it! Here's the list:

    Mainboard:

    4 Bloodghast
    4 Goblin Guide
    4 Hellspark Elemental
    4 Hell's Thunder

    4 Bloodchief Ascension
    4 Lightning Bolt
    4 Burst Lightning
    3 Earthquake
    4 Terminate
    4 Blightning

    4 Dragonskull Summit
    4 Crumbling Necropolis
    6 Mountain
    7 Swamp

    Sideboard:

    4 Archive Trap
    4 Duress
    4 Pithing Needle
    3 Manabarbs

It works well. I think this is a different way of thinking of Bloodghast, including him in a burn deck/haste deck wins build, instead of a generic aggro/vampire build. The truth is, he works well in any deck with black in it but plays best with other hasty guys and burn so he can be hasty too.

I run a Bloodchief Ascension deck with Archive Trap in the SB. I board it in against jund to beat it before they have enough mana for a Broodmate Dragon. It works well.

as long as there is an alternate win con, its not a bad idea. infact, its an amazing idea to go the grixis route, but i can't help but imagine the look on everyones face who plays this card when i just drop a pithing needle or thought hemmorage. whats the backup plan for this deck? i'm guessing it just becomes mill then.

Exactly, that's why the only way to go with this card is a sligh build. Pithing Needle dosen't do anything to Bloodchief Ascension, because it's a triggered ability instead of an activated one, but a Thought Hemorrhage eats the U/B version's face because they don't have a back-up plan in case that happens.

With my Bloodchief Ascension deck, I could just run Hell's Thunders and Lightning Bolt to the opponent's face for the win. Ascension is just a bonus to help in the mid to long game, especially with Archive Trap boarded in.

I actually run a Bloodchief Ascension/Archive Trap Combo Deck . The only way for it to work is to make it mostly a R/B burn deck and run Archive Trap in the sideboard and play it against anyone who runs fetch-lands. Any other way isn't gonna get consistant wins. The B/U version won't work well because creatures and Hideous End effects don't always get there, and even if they do work they'll work too slow. It's important to get the Bloodchief Ascensions online by turn 3-4 at the latest so they can work for you before the opponent can do anything about them. Burn can do this the quickest and most effecient, especially Blightning. Check my deck out at the link below and let me know what you think.

    Edit-Here's the decklist:

    4 Bloodghast
    4 Goblin Guide
    4 Hellspark Elemental
    4 Hell's Thunder

    4 Bloodchief Ascension
    4 Blightning
    4 Terminate
    3 Earthquake
    4 Lightning Bolt
    4 Burst Lightning

    4 Crumbling Necropolis
    4 Dragonskull Summit
    7 Swamp
    6 Mountain

    Sideboard:

    4 Archive Trap
    4 Duress
    4 Pithing Needle
    3 Manabarbs

I like this build because it dosen't NEED the Bloodchief Ascensions to win a game. It can just burn and beat without them if it has to. The Archive Traps work well in my sideboard because they don't work against everybody and those they do work well against never see them coming. MWAA HA HA HA! (sorry). Not to mention, splashing in blue and finding black/blue cards that do direct damage is a pain in the neck. If anyone tries to do this they're going to get a very much watered-down build of the Bloodchief Ascension deck that takes way longer to win than a R/B/u build like mine does.
