This forms a sweet circuit with Astral Drift and Life From The Loam. Unfortunately don't think a GW build can favorably interact with a lot of the combo and control decks. Might have to build Bant. Sweet card, glad it's authentic.
I don't think this is outright playable in anything. It's a welcome addition to grindy/control brewing, though. Having this and Fact Or Fiction simultaneously really makes me feel something.
It looks like the colored cycling lands from Onslaught that get reprinted in almost every supplemental product still fit. No other common land cycles that aren't already Modern-legal fit.
I think even though it was uncommon in Mirage, the Mirage tapped-allied-fetches cycle could get downshifted to common. And it fits. (Do we even know for sure if they'd need to be common? Have enough uncommons been spoiled to know that there's no room for an uncommon cycle?)
Bad River at 235, 236, or 237
Flood Plain at 239
Grasslands at 241
Mountain Valley at 242
Rocky Tar Pit at 245
It's either these, or the 1 mana Onslaught cycling lands. Both fit the crunch. The cyclers seem more likely to me, due to Astral Drift and being more generally interesting. The downshift to common for Pauper/Limited's sake is a real possibility, though. I forgot the black mana cycler's name offhand.
I think this card is pretty sweet. It's more a red control card. Pitch mode is like, 2-for-2 removal with blocking. On-turn full retail mode is essentially Planeswalker removal. It just so happens to never be dead since you will need to close out the game eventually.
I believe the GU Talisman is likely the only one with real Modern applications. Fits into Whir Prison color scheme, could possibly assist in an amalgamation of Green and Blue Tron lists.
On some level, MH is the modern hate set. Normally, standard set sprout on or two hate cards max. This set keeps adding new efficient hate at what I consider an alarming rate. No deck will leave unscathed. To me, magic is not about hating out other deck but building better decks. I hope I'm just chicken littling, but I feel a bit depressed how many decks I have that are getting hit left and right here.
I think the agenda is to produce enough hate/safety cards that it warps the meta, rather than having to use bannings.
Collector Ouphe
1G
Creture
Active abiltys of artifacts can't be activated
2/2
Stony silence on a creture. Seems very good. But it will need protection.
Dang, source? Haven't seen anything about this one.
The new life gain spell is super cool. Not sure it supplants Life Goes On in our creature deck, though. A good counter-measure against Storm-like decks. Sure wish it was "target player gains..." to kill Death's Shadow.
Savage Swipe doesn't seem very good. You can't pump you're own creature in response to take down something real nasty. It can never kill Gurmag Angler. It seems like solid SB piece against opposing wide decks like humans, which can be a crap-shoot match-up.
I don't see why you cannot pump your own creature before fighting. The 2 power pre condition is only for the +2/+2, not for fighting.
I had simply missed the fact that they are two separate actions. Thought this could only target creatures with power of 2. I still prefer Dismember, but this is the best "fight" spell we've got now.
That list I just posted is a trial brew I'm gonna have a go with once MH1 is released. More of a mono green hate bears type list. I've been playing a rather stock list to pretty medium/bad results lately.
I think I like new green snake a lot, the more I think about it. It's an on-par 1CMC creature. It's a "4CMC" creature to top the curve, that gets around a lot of removal, like a bad Thrun, The Last Troll (but still a good enough card.) But untapping with it is almost like untapping with Chameleon Colossus, just a real game closer. Mana effeciency is one of this decks strong-suits and this plays into it incredibly well.

Forgotten Cave
Lonely Sandbar
Secluded Steppe
Tranquil Thicket
EDIT: BARREN MOOR!
This is one of my favorite movies of all-time and spot on!

Saw this spoiler on EternalCentral / SeriousVintage.
Seems great.
