I'm still not sold on hexdrinker, I think he just gets chump blocked to death and adds less to the deck than the other 1 drops or the 2-3 drops he replaced

Hexdrinker is good because it does double duty in two very different types of match ups.

Vs Tron, Ad Naus,Scapeshift, and other combo, we just want to go fast, and increasing the times a simple 2/1 on turn one is a big boost to the deck.
these match up are normally won or lost around turn 4 and before we see our 3rd land drop.

On the other hand take UW control, and Jund, many times the match up comes down to trading 1 for 1 for a few turn as we play creature and they remove them.
Top decking Hexdrinker with 4 lands on turn 8 seems much better as there might be a window where we can go 4 mana 4/4 protection from removal, and the following turn hitting in for 6.

Except that in case 1 I would rather have the superior 2/3 drops (orf or that matter even a pelt collector) that are taken out for this and in case 2 it must sounds like an amazing way to play a card and waste 4 Mana then get a creature pathed/bounced. Levelup is a really bad mechanic and the fact that we are trying to level up into something that will just die to man lands or some other obnoxious blocker because we cannot pump it seems like a huge waste of resources. There are a lot better things we could be shooting to do vs control.

I spent a few weeks in the facebook Burn board and got tired of seeing literally every new red card get posted there along with "what about this in Burn?"

That happens on a lot of the forums here too lol, although less so with burn I guess since it's looking at very specific cards

This is what I will be testing out once I get my hands on the new cards.
My gut says Deglamer might still have a place in our 75, something to test on how it performs vs Force of Vigor.

Hexdrinker looks like a great add to the deck, I have high expectations out of it.

Where to now? I want to replace the 2x Kalonian Tusker. His ability to Evolve e1 to 3/3 is what keeps him around along with curve considerations. All the hints at here that we will be headed to Theros within the next year, So a new devotion set bodes well for us in general and the chances of another GG pushed beater with upside much like Avatar of the Resolute.

Evidently mtgsalvation will enter read only mode on July 8th. Some folks are working on a replacement. The primer here will still exist, but no new posts and it can't be edited.

I don't know what I'll do, whether I'll make an account on the new site and copy everything over, make an account to still comment while someone else maintains the primer there, or just post on /r/LavaSpike (same user name).

Suggestions? My gut feeling is that traffic here has fallen significantly over time. I don't know if that's the twitch login thing, me being an ******** (I've tried toning it down over time), forums in general losing traffic to social media, or some combination of it all. I'm not sure the replacement will have more activity than we see here.

Discord probably wouldn't be bad to give a whirl, if we can get everyone onto a unified one. That said I personally will be moving with the forum, /r lavaspike is cool but for the most part the people there have very little idea what they are talking about and I feel like Reddit doesn't keep the historical information up well enough.

    Hogaak, Arisen Necropolis
    5[G/B][G/B]
    Legendary Creature - Avatar
You can't spend mana to cast this spell.

Convoke, delve (Each creature you tap while casting this spell pays for 1 or one mana of that creature's color. Each card you exile from your graveyard pays for 1.)

You may cast Hogaak, Arisen Necropolis from your graveyard.

    Trample
    8/8

    ---

I have no idea whether this card is even remotely playable for us, but it seems hilarious if we actually can cast it. We need two creatures at the least to play him, but we normally have that, and it seems like a Ghalta that's easier to cast for us.

We generally do not have the graveyard to support delving for that much. It seems risky at best, I think ghalta is probably easier to cast TBH lol. That said they are both pretty bad in mono-green.

EDIT: I just read that this whole forum is going to close on July 8th. It's really sad to see this place go down after so long.

yeah, it's sad. One minor good thing is, I also saw someone say there will be a new forum where we can migrate to. I hope they will build it similar to this forum, and let us have these threads again. Smile

Yea I'm not going to lie, I will be sad to see a few of the established deck forums go. Some people are saying we can just make subreddit for them but it's just not the same I feel. There is a lot of history on these forums.

I personally tried it and regretted not having vines from game 1. It shuts out so much more than infect (like hardened scales affinity) and the extra damage on a single card is relevant (it's basically the same as having 2 blossoming defence on 1 card) for closing out the game quickly.

I noticed that Damping Sphere isn't included in the primer and no one appears to be running it in their sideboard. Is there a reason why Stompy doesn't use it at all?

Also, what are your recommendations for combating Thing in the Ice and Arclight Phoenix decks?

    Thanks in advance!

I can only speak from personal experience but I have found at least as far as Damping Sphere is concerned, I'm not really soft to the decks that it hates out. The exception is maybe burn, there are better answers to burn than sphere though.

As for pheonix, there are a few routes you can take. I've taken a liking to raking canopy in the SB as a 2 of in a few decks (although I haven't tried it in stompy) Obviously there is surgical. I'm running a few scooze MB as GY gate.

Thing in the ice I haven't found to be too big of a problem. I'm running 3 thrash//threat SB for removal, generally though my creatures are just bigger and the deck is faster than thing in the ice.

My second question is about the manabase. I used to play 21 lands, 19 forest and 2 treetop village. Is it really useful to play some fetchlands to filter the pack and trigger revolt? I only play 2 narnam renegade, I don't know if fetch are necessary here.

If you're going to play the renegades then they are needed. As far as just thinning your deck, I've found they aren't worth the life loss considering the current T1 meta of fast decks. I don't run narnam myself, I run 4 Pelt Collector and 4 Dryad Militant. It's hard to say which setup is correct, I tend to be somewhat of an outlier in my mono green stompy deck though because I run more 3 drops. It works for me but most people seem to be against it.

I'm still not sure about my non creature pump spell:
    4 rancor / 3 aspect of hydra / 4 vines of vastwood

    or

    3 rancor / 4 aspect of hydra / 4 vines of vastwood

or a mix of vines of vastwood and blossoming defense

I run 4/4/4 personally, a fairly good percentage of the time I win because of the post-block pump from over cocky T1 players. As for vastwood vs blossoming defense, It depends on your meta really but I've found that vastwood is superior to blossoming defense because 1) the extra +2/+2 its relevant in combat math and 2) vastwood has rather unique text which most players do not expect. The ability to not only use it to protect your own creatures but to fizzle what your opponents doing is pretty big. IMO 90% of the reason to play mono green stompy is to vines of vastwood someone after they sac arcbound to move counters to something.
