Yoshi was a decent character in the GC Paper mario. I've always been fond of yoshi, so when they screw him over in mario 64 (n64) and mario sunshine i was disappointed. But in the SSB world he's been a good fighter. Well, not so much in melee, but in the first one he was pretty awesome. In brawl he is, once again, pretty awesome.

@Hermit - it was a misread on my part, but you did put IRC and IIRC in the same sentence speaking to context. I read that as implication you'd seen them used in a similar way.

Anyway, all these yoshi haters! We may need to switch up some friend codes and fight this out as men (or dinosaurs and princesses...whatever). Though it seems like a few of you are quite good, so i may be outclassed...

Edit: is there anyway to begin a match as ZSS or do you have to do a final smash? What the hell does DI stand for?

I'll go ahead and put my friend code in my sig, if you're up for a game (I usually play later in the evening when I have less competition for the connection - problem with shared college LANs)

As for ZSS, hold "R" or "L" (or "-" if using a wiimote only) as you select her and hold it until you get to the stage select screen.

The first SSB barely counts - in that game, Jigglypuff and Luigi were houses (in my opinion); not so much anymore. Let us weep over the lost ability to melt face with the round and pink one that isn't Kirby Frown

Hrm... Isn't Yoshi in Paper Mario and the Thousand Year Door? How'd he do there?

I never got very far in the original Paper Mario, so I can't say much there.

Thousand Year Door, however, there was a Yoshi, but you hatched it and then raised it to be a pit fighter (not quite true, but close enough). He was actually pretty cool there - he had an attitude problem like nobody's business and had a very good array of abilities (great at doing damage).
Honestly, if at all possible, I'd find a copy of Thousand Year Door - it's a little on the easy side, but it has a great sense of humor (very true to the original MarioRPG, I'd say).

Next random topic: Samus or Zero-Suit Samus? I prefer Zero Suit, myself (and not for the obvious reasons). Fast attacks, decent combos, and one of the few straight-up stuns in the game.

    OR

Why is it that the Deku Nuts do damage, anyways? They never did in OoT. The stun effect alone would make them nice to see, but it is a stun with decent smashing power and damage.

I've been wondering that too. Except the problem to me isn't Yoshi so much as which Yoshi they use. Yoshi seems stuck in Yoshi's Story mode, which is unfortunate, because that's the worst Yoshi of them all. Every SNES game he was in, Yoshi was the man. I think Super Mario 64 for the DS tried to improve him, but I've never played it.

Sad really, what they've done to the dinosaur. I'd love it if they could give Yoshi an alternate character image that would allow him to be Boshi from Mario RPG.

Though, nothing compares to the butchering of Mewtwo. I would love it if Mewtwo sided with the next game's adventure mode antagonists just to have a chance to kill Lucario.

    Agreed.

SMW was an excellent game, and Yoshi was used primarily as a powerup (when is the last time you rode a yoshi? Exactly. They don't want people to ride something they insist on telling us is a character). Yoshi's Island, while having a storybook feel to it, was full of adult humor (Touch Fuzzy, Get Drunk... I mean Dizzy, Tap-Tap the Red Nose, etc). From the N64 on, however, he was just some cartoony dinosaur with obnoxious sound effects.

Oh and in SM64DS, Yoshi was easily forgettable. I actually forgot he was in that one, to be honest.

SSBB does at least give some love to the fans via flashing shell Yoshi as his final smash ("dragon" my eye).

Roy was omitted because there was no purpose for him being in the game anyhow...

Roy and Marth were chosen to represent Fire Emblem for two different reasons:

Marth was one of the original characters in the series (one of the main once) and reappeared in at least one other game. Marth is the closest thing to a common notable character that the Fire Emblem series has, and makes sense to represent the series in Smash.

Roy was chosen because he was in one of the newest Fire Emblem releases (originally only in Japan) and his appearence in Melee was a slightly shameless attempt to promote the new game.

For Brawl, Marth still serves his purpose as the all round rep of Fire Emblem, But there's no longer any purpose for Roy. So Ike, who has similar reasons for being in the game replaced him.

I understand why they got rid of him, I'm just saying I preferred his play style over Marth's. I'd be much happier if they had it as Roy and Ike, or make Marth play a little more like Roy.

Also, they didn't really "get rid of" the clones - Link and Toon Link, Captain Falcon and Gannondorf (never understood that one), Mario and Luigi, the whole Starfox crew, Marth and Ike (to an extent), not to mention Ness and Lucas.

While they did go a long way making sure they were slightly different, they still have (basically) the same moveset (special-wise), which really makes them have that been there, done that kind of feel.

Side note: Oh, and why is Yoshi still in this series? He makes every game he is in worse just by being there, I think. Gender-confused cartoony dinosaurs are for creepy PBS programs, not video games.

Did anyone see the Invasion sumbol on Fulminator Mage's belt? Whats the deal with that.....

I don't think it's quite the same, although if it is - good catch!
That would mean one of two things:
    1) they finally found a place for old, unused art, and didn't check too carefully
    2) Yawgmoth isn't dead!!!11!!1!one!! (or some other story tie-in that we're all getting sick of)

How did we miss the Cartes de Combat preview, anyways? I'm disappointed in you rumor mongers... I jest.

    On to the cards!

Grief Tyrant - 8/8 for 6? sign me up! (reads ability) Never mind - limited fodder with a little Johnny action thrown in. It is splashable, though.

Woodfall Primus - Sounds like a transformer reject to me. 8 mana is a lot to pay for a creature, although persist makes it at least somewhat resilient, and it's CIP ability makes it card parity (into card advantage if your opponent kills it). I like the idea, but is is too expensive for competitive play, I think.

Kinscaer Harpoonist - cute. Not good, but cute.

Fulminator Mage - Another card that's rare for secondary market concerns, I guess (I though Wizards said that they don't do this, if I remember correctly). 90% Rain of Tears/Stone Rain? On a Stick? Good times, good times. I wouldn't be surprised if this showed up in that MBA (or B/R Aggro) deck they seem to be pushing on us these days, as a way to steal some tempo/deal with obnoxious lands. If monocolored decks become flavor of the month, this could suffer.

Sunken Ruins - No surprise here. I like the idea of a Graven Cairns cycle, to be honest. The secondary market is going to be crazy on these, though (they have a drawback about on par with the Shock Lands, I'd say).

Skuzzback Marauders - Stupid name, good limited card. Needs more cowbell - I mean Haste. I'd play it in casual as slow burn/quasi-card advantage.

I really have to stop posting on two forums at once - my brain can't take it.

There's a very good chance they will put both a tap and untap ability on the same card - but it will, in all likelihood, be completely unplayable binder trash. Since all untap abilities will (most likely) cost 2 or more to play (because of Paradise Mantle and the like), unless they are strategically useless to use an infinite number of times (like Leech Bonder). I doubt they would make the tap ability free, you are looking at a loop which costs 3+ per iteration, which might be a good infinite mana sink, but not much else.

there is a lot of love for toon link because he combines a good deal of link's power and versatility with a much better recovery. the lighter frame gives a much floatier jump which is to many people's preference. He might be faster too, i haven't personally played him a great deal.

i was aware of IRC, use it from time to time, but i thought hermit was saying he saw IRC used in the same way as IIRC.

I suspect that use of IRC was an accidental missing of the 'I', because no search I made found any Internet jargon attached to it. Maybe I'm behind the times, though.

I always hated Link (in SSB, that is) - even with the extra mobility, he doesn't seem to be the best at either smashing or grinding the opponent down enough to finish anybody off. He is somewhere in the middle, but I never thought his specials were good enough to make him better than average. I will admit, however, that his down aerial move is pretty nice.

I personally am a huge fan of Ike (although I miss Roy) - He has an excellent aerial recovery move for a slow character and decent ways for making up for his speed via his running attack and forward special. All this on top of a solid smash attack and a counterattack. Not to mention that he can seriously take advantage of a player if you catch them with their pants down (so to speak) via his charged special. I tend to win more than I lose with him, anyways (not that the "with anybody" crowd is exactly top competition).

    Just my two cents, anyways.

Dusk Urchin - probably shouldn't be a rare; it isn't complicated/splashy enough in my opinion, although black card draw tends to be at a higher rarity than it would be in blue. As for it's quality, it will (almost) never gain you card advantage the turn it comes into play, never gain you more than card parity if your opponent Incinerates it the turn it comes into play, and won't gain you a card ever if they Disintegrate it. I wouldn't feel like a moron for playing it in MBA casual, but it still feels like it doesn't do quite enough.

Wilt-Leaf Liege - I hope this card sucks in standard. I want a playset for my casual G/W Aggro deck (5/5 Watchwolfs, anybody?). I love how they made him a knight, it's a nice touch. Overall, its playability is directly dependent on whether W/G Aggro is feasible in standard (although MGA and White Weenie aren't out of the question, either). Scary enough - I predict that this won't be the best card in this cycle, although it is very good.

Oh, and I do have to point out - Tarmogoyf gets +1/+1 from this guy, too. I hate not being able to discuss a green card without that abomination coming up.

I thew my hammers at completely random windows - I got 1 stage (that leaf-music thing one - its name escapes me) and a sticker, if memory serves. I can't remember what else I got, honestly.

    IRC - Internet Relay Chat
IIRC - If I remember correctly

(Also, why exactly do people love Toon Link, anyways? I can't stand playing the little pig-lifter, personally)

I think this is the right place...

Did you have any good jokes pulled on you?

Did you do anything to anybody else?

Do you think it's a stupid holiday?

Remember any good ones from years past?

I was disappointed this year - the only good joke was here, nobody else even put any real effort into it, or so it seemed.

Another one of my favorites was the year that GameFAQs changed it's name to GameFAXs, complete with green trim (I believe this was the year after the XBox came out, but I could be mistaken).

I actually like that this site has something resembling enforced rules; a lot of sites these days are nothing but children posting mindless dribble that is completely unreadable and intentionally breaks the rules, but they are never reprimanded.

If anybody has ever tried to read the GameFAQs message boards, they know what I mean.

As for the card/deck tags - they are really nice everywhere, and help everybody make more intelligent and relevant posts. Thus they are good to use.

I have to admit, this was by far the best April fools joke this year, anywhere. Most of the other ones I saw were either predictable or annoying. I wasn't really sure when I saw the lead-in thread whether or not it was going to be a "I'm not leaving - April fools" kinda thing, but honestly never expected this much detail in a hoax.

Sadly, however, World of Warcraft patch 2.4 was not actually an early April fools joke. Mad

    Hello everybody!

I've been stalking the forums for a good long while now (think Rav block), but just got around to registering the other day.

I enjoy standard, and some limited (I actually kinda quit Magic right now because of how boring Lorwyn drafts were). Mostly, though, my heart lies in casual. I'm a decent strategist, but end up being impulsive and doing stupid stuff in game (I bore easily).

My other major hobby is World of Warcraft (if anybody plays on Echo Isles, go ahead and PM me if you'd like). I don't really have much free time these days, as I'm a college senior (major - Computer Science minor - mathematics).

Interestingly enough, I predicted that Tarmogoyf, Reveillark, Glare of Subdual, and a few other cards would be good before they were (although admittedly, I doubted the metagame would let them shine).

P.S. Cookie to anyone who got the joke in the thread title
