Mar 16, 2018Emperor Norton posted a message on All Sets Are Good: Saviors of KamigawaI can see why Saviors gets such a bad reputation, but I think that it's ultimately a pretty fun little set. It would have been better with more Ninjas instead of the "hand size matters" theme, of course, but I remember getting a fair amount of casual use from stuff that hasn't aged well like Ghost-Lit Redeemer. For the most part, though, the set just suffers from an acute case of almost everything costing - too much.Posted in: Articles

I'll go ahead and put my friend code in my sig, if you're up for a game (I usually play later in the evening when I have less competition for the connection - problem with shared college LANs)
As for ZSS, hold "R" or "L" (or "-" if using a wiimote only) as you select her and hold it until you get to the stage select screen.
The first SSB barely counts - in that game, Jigglypuff and Luigi were houses (in my opinion); not so much anymore. Let us weep over the lost ability to melt face with the round and pink one that isn't Kirby
I never got very far in the original Paper Mario, so I can't say much there.
Thousand Year Door, however, there was a Yoshi, but you hatched it and then raised it to be a pit fighter (not quite true, but close enough). He was actually pretty cool there - he had an attitude problem like nobody's business and had a very good array of abilities (great at doing damage).
Honestly, if at all possible, I'd find a copy of Thousand Year Door - it's a little on the easy side, but it has a great sense of humor (very true to the original MarioRPG, I'd say).
Next random topic: Samus or Zero-Suit Samus? I prefer Zero Suit, myself (and not for the obvious reasons). Fast attacks, decent combos, and one of the few straight-up stuns in the game.
OR
Why is it that the Deku Nuts do damage, anyways? They never did in OoT. The stun effect alone would make them nice to see, but it is a stun with decent smashing power and damage.
Agreed.
SMW was an excellent game, and Yoshi was used primarily as a powerup (when is the last time you rode a yoshi? Exactly. They don't want people to ride something they insist on telling us is a character). Yoshi's Island, while having a storybook feel to it, was full of adult humor (Touch Fuzzy, Get Drunk... I mean Dizzy, Tap-Tap the Red Nose, etc). From the N64 on, however, he was just some cartoony dinosaur with obnoxious sound effects.
Oh and in SM64DS, Yoshi was easily forgettable. I actually forgot he was in that one, to be honest.
SSBB does at least give some love to the fans via flashing shell Yoshi as his final smash ("dragon" my eye).
I understand why they got rid of him, I'm just saying I preferred his play style over Marth's. I'd be much happier if they had it as Roy and Ike, or make Marth play a little more like Roy.
Also, they didn't really "get rid of" the clones - Link and Toon Link, Captain Falcon and Gannondorf (never understood that one), Mario and Luigi, the whole Starfox crew, Marth and Ike (to an extent), not to mention Ness and Lucas.
While they did go a long way making sure they were slightly different, they still have (basically) the same moveset (special-wise), which really makes them have that been there, done that kind of feel.
Side note: Oh, and why is Yoshi still in this series? He makes every game he is in worse just by being there, I think. Gender-confused cartoony dinosaurs are for creepy PBS programs, not video games.
I don't think it's quite the same, although if it is - good catch!
That would mean one of two things:
1) they finally found a place for old, unused art, and didn't check too carefully
2) Yawgmoth isn't dead!!!11!!1!one!! (or some other story tie-in that we're all getting sick of)
On to the cards!
Grief Tyrant - 8/8 for 6? sign me up! (reads ability) Never mind - limited fodder with a little Johnny action thrown in. It is splashable, though.
Woodfall Primus - Sounds like a transformer reject to me. 8 mana is a lot to pay for a creature, although persist makes it at least somewhat resilient, and it's CIP ability makes it card parity (into card advantage if your opponent kills it). I like the idea, but is is too expensive for competitive play, I think.
Kinscaer Harpoonist - cute. Not good, but cute.
Fulminator Mage - Another card that's rare for secondary market concerns, I guess (I though Wizards said that they don't do this, if I remember correctly). 90% Rain of Tears/Stone Rain? On a Stick? Good times, good times. I wouldn't be surprised if this showed up in that MBA (or B/R Aggro) deck they seem to be pushing on us these days, as a way to steal some tempo/deal with obnoxious lands. If monocolored decks become flavor of the month, this could suffer.
Sunken Ruins - No surprise here. I like the idea of a Graven Cairns cycle, to be honest. The secondary market is going to be crazy on these, though (they have a drawback about on par with the Shock Lands, I'd say).
Skuzzback Marauders - Stupid name, good limited card. Needs more cowbell - I mean Haste. I'd play it in casual as slow burn/quasi-card advantage.
I really have to stop posting on two forums at once - my brain can't take it.
I suspect that use of IRC was an accidental missing of the 'I', because no search I made found any Internet jargon attached to it. Maybe I'm behind the times, though.
I always hated Link (in SSB, that is) - even with the extra mobility, he doesn't seem to be the best at either smashing or grinding the opponent down enough to finish anybody off. He is somewhere in the middle, but I never thought his specials were good enough to make him better than average. I will admit, however, that his down aerial move is pretty nice.
I personally am a huge fan of Ike (although I miss Roy) - He has an excellent aerial recovery move for a slow character and decent ways for making up for his speed via his running attack and forward special. All this on top of a solid smash attack and a counterattack. Not to mention that he can seriously take advantage of a player if you catch them with their pants down (so to speak) via his charged special. I tend to win more than I lose with him, anyways (not that the "with anybody" crowd is exactly top competition).
Just my two cents, anyways.
Wilt-Leaf Liege - I hope this card sucks in standard. I want a playset for my casual G/W Aggro deck (5/5 Watchwolfs, anybody?). I love how they made him a knight, it's a nice touch. Overall, its playability is directly dependent on whether W/G Aggro is feasible in standard (although MGA and White Weenie aren't out of the question, either). Scary enough - I predict that this won't be the best card in this cycle, although it is very good.
Oh, and I do have to point out - Tarmogoyf gets +1/+1 from this guy, too. I hate not being able to discuss a green card without that abomination coming up.
IRC - Internet Relay Chat
IIRC - If I remember correctly
(Also, why exactly do people love Toon Link, anyways? I can't stand playing the little pig-lifter, personally)
Did you have any good jokes pulled on you?
Did you do anything to anybody else?
Do you think it's a stupid holiday?
Remember any good ones from years past?
I was disappointed this year - the only good joke was here, nobody else even put any real effort into it, or so it seemed.
Another one of my favorites was the year that GameFAQs changed it's name to GameFAXs, complete with green trim (I believe this was the year after the XBox came out, but I could be mistaken).
If anybody has ever tried to read the GameFAQs message boards, they know what I mean.
As for the card/deck tags - they are really nice everywhere, and help everybody make more intelligent and relevant posts. Thus they are good to use.
Sadly, however, World of Warcraft patch 2.4 was not actually an early April fools joke.
I've been stalking the forums for a good long while now (think Rav block), but just got around to registering the other day.
I enjoy standard, and some limited (I actually kinda quit Magic right now because of how boring Lorwyn drafts were). Mostly, though, my heart lies in casual. I'm a decent strategist, but end up being impulsive and doing stupid stuff in game (I bore easily).
My other major hobby is World of Warcraft (if anybody plays on Echo Isles, go ahead and PM me if you'd like). I don't really have much free time these days, as I'm a college senior (major - Computer Science minor - mathematics).
Interestingly enough, I predicted that Tarmogoyf, Reveillark, Glare of Subdual, and a few other cards would be good before they were (although admittedly, I doubted the metagame would let them shine).
P.S. to anyone who got the joke in the thread title
