I imagine battles as a cardtype with a condition, a payoff and maybe a counter for progress of sorts. Like, there could be five "fields" on a side bar, your starting in the middle and when you reach the top you'd get something. Something like "Battle for Zendikar" could say "Whenever a land enters the battlefield under your control, you move ahaed one step" and "Whenever a land enters the battlefield under an opponents control, go a step back" as well as "When you reach the top field, you sacrifice ~ and draw three cards"
That seems like a simple and open ended version of skirmish as a card type.
That being said, this could theoretically still work as an enchantment subtype I guess.
I am excited for the fall and winter sets then, set on dominaria, but they kinda ruined kamigawa for me and capenna looks similarly futuristic. I don't want futuristic on my magic cards, I already hated kaladesh.
Yeah, thanks a lot for doing this! Helps keeping up with all these versions and lets us check how many of the precious retro frame slots could still be hits.
