I actually do not run a full 10 of Signets or Talismans. I only run 8, I believe I left them out of certain guilds I didn't want to reinforce artifacts in.

But having this cycle complete does, really excite me.

It is interesting that this is just now catching on.

Cube isn't different than any other limited environment, and it never has been. You can build and balance a Cube around anything, people just tend to like to balance it around the most powerful cards because that is easiest to do. It also means collaborative efforts are more fruitful. Traditional MTG drafting is an example of limited format design using novel cards every set release. Very rarely do 2 sets ever draft the same, while that cannot always be said for Cube.

But, I will also add that there is something to be said for traditional Cube design as well. It is fun playing with cards like Black Lotus because it offers newer players the chance to experience a part of MTG history in some sense. A lot of people don't really appreciate something like Control Magic until they get to actually cast it.

If you use a Snapcaster to flashback a removal spell, you still virtually used 1.5 cards to remove 1.

You are just trading a threat for a threat.

Sure, it downgrades a threat sometimes...

But you will inevitably have to 2 for 1 yourself - every time.

It really is a card that gets better in multiples, but only marginally and really only if you see more than 1 in an opener.

It is a self contained engine... White is probably the most important protection, and the mechanics mean even if you hit another color of removal, you have already stacked your next wielder. In a constructed environment, sure, it is a lot weaker. But in a limited format where answers are not usually stacked, you can have games where you get away with 1 or 2 triggers and they are just dead, regardless of if they kill the wielder.

It isn't the best sword, not even remotely. But it isn't the worst sword either.

But as I said earlier, the reason I run Swords at all, really, is that I like to have nostalgic play in my Cube. Swords are part of that, even if they are not the greatest. I don't consider Tarmogoyf to be the greatest in Cube, but I still run it for the same reason. My players like that stuff.

I run all of the Swords in my 540 Cube. They are one of those cards that are Iconic and I love it when people get to experience some Iconic parts of MTG history.

That being said, I think finding room for all 10 in 540 is a real stretch. I might have to actually pick 5 of my favorites and roll with them once it is all said and done. Fortunately I think we have some time.

I feel like the 3 mana slot needs to be ways to interact, not necessarily a creature. The hurdle the deck faces is that turn 3-4 phase. I don't think Mentor really helps that much, it just means your turn 4 is potentially stronger than it normally would be. I don't think that is really necessary.

My thoughts on Generous Gift is that you often are letting creatures resolve and using countermagic for noncreature permanents in order to maximize returns on wrath effects. So while you can just bounce the token with Teferi, Time Raveler, I think you are better off just ignoring this card. It appears to do what you want it to do, but it does not really feed into how games usually play out. I may be wrong, but I doubt it. Decks that played Beast Within played it out of necessity and the lack of ways to interact with the opponent otherwise.

For Archmage's Charm, it seems pretty powerful. The UUU is relevant, mainly if you ware wanting to use it on curve with a high level of frequency. But I don't think this card would ever be a 4-of, and not because of the casting cost, but because we have better things to do on turn 3 now days. As something like a 2-of, the mana cost becomes less important because the fewer you put in the deck, the less you are wanting to have it in an opening to cast on curve anyways. I will say that as powerful as Fact or Fiction can be... I like Archmage's Charm more. Personally, I use Gideon of the Trials, so I won't likely be using this card and will default to Fact or Fiction. But I will certainly test charm out in a different shell.

This card really excites me. I have been waiting for something to sway me off of Domri for my Cube and I definitely think this is it. Does something special that you don't see often, and can further other strategies at a premium CMC.

I mean, would you give up 1 slot to virtually free up 2?

Seems about on par with Lotus Bloom, which didn't do enough for us.

I mentioned this in the Rumor Mill thread, but might as well mention it here since LB was brought up.

The difference between having access to 5 mana on turn 4 and 7 mana on turn 4, is remarkable. I don't see a world in which they are even remotely on the same level. But I agree, that Lotus Bloom isn't the greatest in Cube already and that makes this card seem quite unplayable.

I think this card has play ability. But it is either incredibly fringe or it isn't in Modern. I stand by me previous statement, comparing this to other moxes is not a linear comparison. The difference between an extra mana on turns 1, 2, and 3, is substantial and you quickly see that diminish on turns 4, 5, and onward. If this wasn't the case, then something like Farseek and Explor would have way more playability to them.... but they don't because the time in which that mana makes the biggest difference, has come and gone. Suspend 3 is a huge drawback for this card outside of fringe scenarios. The reason it is less of a drawback on Lotus Bloom is that you net 3 mana by the end of those turns.

You want to be going bigger earlier and wider later. This Mox doesn't really achieve either of those.

But once again, I do think the card has niche playability. Historically, cards with Niche playability either become incredibly relevant in their niche or unplayable abroad.

I feel like this card is a trap. It seems good, but it can absolutely be played around to net themselves mana and rebuy back onto the board in a better way than just playing around a wrath.

I think this card is insane in formats where there are not a ton of basics floating around.
