Wow, "You don't play it in paper, so you can't be that interested in it" is a really ill-conceived way to look at it.
The popularity of Brawl suffers a lot from the simple fact that EDH/Commander is a much more attractive option for most players that are interested in a format of that kind.
Also in arena, you can't just buy exactly what you need for specific decks - you have to build an extensive collection by design, therefore accumulating (at least) singles of a lot of cards. I assume most arena players could quickly throw a very playable brawl deck together from what they have just lying around anyway.

MarkXero posted a message on Sorin and Nahiri cardsOk - here's my recollection of the story: If you read the first part of it again, it starts with Sorin basically coming out of something like a coma after the effort it took him to create Avacyn and the Helvault. While he's in this disoriented, out-of-it state, Nahiri turns up:Posted in: The Rumor Mill
N: Where the hell were you?!
S: Oh. Hey. Hi Nahiri. Do you like my helvault? It's not as good as you could make, but not bad eh?
N: The Eldrazi just wrecked Zendikar? Didn't you get my distress call?
S: Er. No. I didn't.
N: Why the hell not?!
S: Ah. *****. My defences of Innistrad might have blocked it. Hadn't thought of that. Sorry.
N: WTF man! You were supposed to help me!
S: Um. Yeah. Do you need me to come back to Zendikar with you?
N: No! It's fine now. I sorted it.
S: Right. Ok. So...
N: I'm still immensely pissed at you though.
S: Ok...
Avacyn turns up.
A: Threat detected. Attack mode.
N: WTF. (starts beating on Avacyn, and winning)
S: (Still coming out of the effing coma for crying out loud.) Ah. Bugger. Um. Stop? Avacyn's part of the defences I made and...
N: AAAAAARRRRGGGGHH! (Keeps killing Avacyn)
Sorin steps in. Tries to get her to stop. Nahiri attacks him too, just to what? Prove herself to him? Sorin ends up sealing her in the helvault to protect himself, Avacyn and the whole of Innistrad. I don't get the impression it was a long, thought out, considered strategy. More '*****. How do I stop her. Look - Helvault!' FWOP. Sealed Nahiri.
After that he couldn't really get her out again without destroying the helvault, which was the other half of his defence mechanism for Innistrad that he'd just spent most of his energy creating, so that wasn't really an option. And if you look at his response to Ugin when he finally gets to chat to the resurrected dragon, you can tell he's ashamed of what happened.
All of which makes me more on Sorin's side than Nahiri's.
BUT, and this is my real gripe with it all, the whole damned storyline of their fight and Nahiri ending up in the vault was just so James Wyatt could have Emrakul come to Innistrad and feck it up. It was totally contrived to facilitate a storyline that I hated, because they butchered Innistrad, Avacyn, Gisela, Bruna etc. in the process, and they had to make both Sorin and Nahiri into ********s for it to happen. I hate everything about that creative decision. That's why I'm pissed that they're carrying it on here. They character-assassinated two walkers that I really liked, just to ruin the plane I most liked. I genuinely stopped following the Magic storyline after that for a couple of years until Ixalan.
And now we get an in-your-face reminder that they chose to make Sorin and Nahiri into ********s for no good reason.
Post-script: All the character attributes that made Sorin a cool, detached character have now been given to Davriel. I hope he doesn't get fecked over by creative the same way. Leave him safely in Brandon Sanderson's hands please. -

Caranthir posted a message on Basic Lands from Card Image GalleryJust something I noticed from the Card Image Gallery that went live yesterday.Posted in: The Rumor Mill
The basics in the CIG are different from the marvellously sinister ones from PAX. In fact, there are far more optimistic.
Bolas's Citadel is seen on some of them, as well as an active Immortal Sun above New Prahv on Island. On Mountain, there is something that looks a lot like Amonkhet obelisks floating atop a jet of steam, resembling rockets.... but the most interesting is Plains...
There seems to be a statue of Nicol Bolas, toppled and broken in the center of the plaza. Or maybe...if there was someone who could turn Nicol Bolas into stone.... ;-)
Anyway, I am intrigued what are the PAX lands then. Promo ones, like the "guild" basics from RNA and GRN? -

*facepalm*
Does mark even realize he may have accidentally revealed bolas lost
This likely confirms more oaths (likely regardless) the oaths in the story’s next to always happen after the fight
After ulamog and kozilek died gatewatch begins
After emrakul got trapped liliana oath
After Belzenlok death Teferi oath
I don’t know when ajanis oath was during or after Kaladesh fight.
And again the gatewatch ruim magic once again.
I m considering on just ignoring completely the story. Gosh can we skip this gatewatch thing and have stories of walkers converging instead of being part of a group. Like we had after conflui. We see how elspeth lost everything, then she goes out on helping someone else, fail. Then we move to Innistrad, another walker tale (liliana and Garruk), then we go to zendikar, ***** happens eldrazi happens (big hype) we see Gideon and Jace, then we go to RTR following Jace and Gideon on their efforts to find help for zendikar. Then we see Elspeth again, being a champion, making the impossible, being betrayed. Then we see Sarkhan following the voices of his head.
Then maro, development team, other people on Wizards thinks we need powerrangers. And everything since that has been awful (some storylines where good-ok but the majority has been a pain in the butt, even ones in planes that had good development)
Plz stop with the gatewatch.
Move into planeswalkers plots coverging.
Like: make a plane where Dack Fayden is helping another planeswalker to overthrow a powerful mage that reings over the plane. They discover said mage was a agent for a planeswalker. Then we move Narset meeting with Teferi and asking for his teachings about time manipulation, something goes badly in the plane maybe tarkir and they have to fix things and learn more about what happened with sarkhan. We follow Nissa as she goes to Lorwin to investigate the aurora and what happened to the plane, we learn that a planeswalker is trying to dethrone the fae queen and that is the same Pw from the first story , and idk I m writhing this while I m finishing my biological necessities and I don’t work with this. -

Legendary Creature - Human Cleric
Vigilance, Lifelink
Whenever a creature enters the battlefield, gain 1 life.
At the beginning of your end step if you gained 5 or more life this turn, create a 4/4 white Angel Creature token with flying and vigilance.
7W: Creatures you control get +3/+3 and gain flying and lifelink until end of turn. This ability costs 1 less to activate for each time you have cast this card from the command zone.
1/3
idk if thats too similar but this guy makes me want to build mono white lifegain garbage
Next: A naya gargantuan commander

ChronocidalManiac posted a message on War of the Spark: Foil Planeswalker in Every Prerelease PackPosted in: The Rumor MillQuote from Patch8700 »It should be noted that it's simply a stamped foil Planeswalker. It doesn't specify War of the Spark Planeswalker.
I think they might just do 5-7 planeswalker in War of the Spark. Then include Domri, Dovin, Ral, Kaya, Vraska and maybe even Bolas as possible War of the Spark stamped cards in the prerelease kits.
Exactly what masterpieces would accomplish: Non War of the Spark PWs
Quote from AtraxianShade »I can see this going down 2 routes:
1) getting Tibalt levels of disappointment from most of the planeswalkers, pretty much working as glorified sorcery spells (only loyalty spending abilities usable once or twice at most) or not making any decent impact on the game.
2) In a standard environment where Oath of Teferi is still legal, getting superfriends control in addition to monored (and variants) and Teferi control (and variants), making Standard an even more unplayable mess (at least for Arena).
Another issue solved by bringing back Masterpieces (which weren't standard legal) -

krishnath posted a message on Commander 2019 Theme SpeculationPosted in: SpeculationQuote from AtraxianShade »
I second that.Quote from krishnath »Quote from Manite »Cool that Serra's getting a card, but I think fans will still want a Serra CPW. Well hey, Saheeli got one, so there's always a chance!
I could see them making a Bant colored Serra eventually, you know to cover her time outside of her realm, specifically during her marriage to Feroz.
Bonus points if she has "partner with" a Feroz planeswalker card. And they should both have some sort of synergistic ultimate ability. After all, together they took down Taysir who is individually more powerful than either of them.
From the lore Feroz looks more like a mono-blue walker, tho, so I'm not sure where the green could come from. I don't think that pulling another Tamiyo, Field Researcher (shoehorning in 1 or 2 colors because of balance) would be a good idea.
Serra outside of her realm was always depicted as someone who used both green, white, and blue mana. Indeed, the first set that referred to her as a planeswalker directly was Homelands, and there she was associated with those three colors. As for Feroz, he should either be UR because of him being an elementalist, or WUB, to go with the Wizards' School he founded. Either way it would make the pair of them four colored together.
Indeed, I was pretty sad that Serra wasn't Bant colored in her first iteration, but since people closely associate her with her realm and the angels, I understand why they did it.
I wonder if we'll be getting a "Serra's Wedding Ring" legendary artifact...
Still, there are plenty of named old-walkers to pick from should WotC decide to go that route again this year (which, let's be honest, is unlikely), I mean, how many people here remember Manatarqua, Geyadrone Dihada, or Worzel? How about Ravi, Terrent Amese, or Sandruu? And those aren't even the most obscure named ones. Heck, for some of them, we have little more than a name.
I still think that if they repeat a theme this year, then tribal will be it, but I think it more likely we'll get another theme, such as planes (two old, two "new", one of which we will visit in the near future). -

And yet, if the reprint it, it could be a $10 card rather than a $100 card. So the question now becomes "Why do the cards I want in my deck need to cost $100?"Quote from cyberium_neo »People should really ask themselves: 1) Why do I need $100+ cards in my deck, in a format that's meant to be casual? 2) Do I require a $100 card in my deck to make it good or perhaps I just need better deck-building?
Exactly. Cards that are not on the Reserved List really have no reason to cost more than $50. It does nothing for the game where it costs a average-ly cheap car to get into the game. The game doesn't do well just because you can use the game as a diet stock market to put away for your retirement, it does well because people can play the game and have fun, not so Alpha Investments can make a killing on the secondary market. - To post a comment, please login or register a new account.

I can't stand most of the youtube videos with spoilers (apart from Desolator, at least his commentary is funny sometimes), I neither have the will nor the time to watch long boring streams on twitch just to look at a low-quality screencap of a card and I can't be bothered with Twatter.
At least this time they will spoil an entire deck each day starting from august 5.

On the other hand, it would be nice to have knights in colors different from black and white.

If you take that tweet and change any of the demographic descriptors in anything else the tweet would read quite (depending on what you change) racist, homophobic, transphobic or sexist.
If that is the attitude of the people behind the game, it is hard to call it "broadening the appeal of their product".

Anyway, everyone with a drop of good taste knows that King Arthur can only be depicted in the likes of Graham Arthur Chapman.
...The set really needs a Killer Rabbit, tho...
If WotC is going to take pretty much every popular public domain fairy tale and switch it around in order to "subvert expectations", the gimmick is going to grow old very soon.
It is pretty early to jump to conclusions, but with WotC being WotC, I don't expect them becoming creative with this kind of source material. At most they will switch some roles around (Goldilocks becoming a bear hunter) and the little mermaid being a human girl turned into a mermaid. All "damsel in distress" tropes will either be genderbent or removed outright (because there otherwise would be a twittermob calling for their heads at the cry of "toxic masculinity" and "kissing Sleeping Beauty / Snowwhite is sexual assault!").
I would have been hyped for the setting as long as it was just high fantasy... Put in the fairytales and WotC adding a "twist" on them and you lose me...

Some I like very much, for example Blood for Bones, Unholy Indenture or Answered Prayers, others are a complete miss for my tastes (Deliver Unto Evil or Dirge of Dread), yet he seems he got his stride going when he started using more abstract compositions starting from Dominaria (or little earlier with Phantom Tiger).
Looking at the artwork he is doing now for cards, you would be hard pressed to believe that he also made pretty generic artwork like Attended Knight or Blind Obedience

Just a bad, random androgynous angel with horrible hairstyle. Yet this begs the question:When are they going to give us our first female demon?
No, Lady Orca does not count! She was errataed into one!
It is not like they have to make a succubus (too spicy for current year MtG) but something like Sheoldred would pass for a demon without a second glance if you didn't know she was a phyrexian praetor.

We know most of them, but at the moment there are some egregious holes in the lineup:
A list of the numbers still missing from the known cards
- 302 to 306
- 308
- 309
- 311 to 316
- 318 to 320
- 322
- 335 EDIT: Shivan Dragon might fit here
- 336
EDIT: Shock might fit here- 339 to 431
That's 22 cards still unknown, but standard legal for another year.
When I have time I'll check if the empty spaces match with the extra cards in the spellslinger decks and/or unlisted cards in the planeswalker's decks.
EDIT2: even by putting the cards from the planeswalkers decks in as if they were all M20 reprints either I'm missing things or the cards don't fit in the crunch. Then I realized:
We are still missing the welcome decks!

You sacrifice the angels as part of the cost and the token-making effect of the bishop only triggers when Torgaar is placed on the stack after you finished to pay the cost for the spell and the alternative or additional costs connected.
If you want to loop the angels you need a free sacrifical outlet (in standard there are none currently). In other formats altar of dementia (for milling your opponent) or Ashnod's Altar/Phyrexian Altar to get infinite mana could be some choices, as well as Viscera Seer to scry your entire library 1 card at a time.
As for the bishop alone, it almost triggers resplendent angel, you just need an extra life. Not a combo, but a nice synergy.
Arcane Adaptation is a cheaper way to turn your spirit tokens into angels (1/1 flying spirit angels), but will leave standard in 3 months.
EDIT: thinking about it, there is a way in standard to have a loop for this, but it is so far fetched and christmas-landy that if actally manage to make it work you deserve a prize.
Bishop of Wings + Divine Visitation + Arcane Adaptation (choose Goblin) + Skirk Prospector to sacrifice your angel goblin tokens and get R for each one.
