Who says you can't prevent damage in the form of -1/-1 counters? You're saying yourself that it is damage.

A 3/3 with wither is dealing 3 points of damage in the form of -1/-1 counters. It just doesn't make any logical sense that you can't prevent those 3 points of damage just because they are dealt a different way.

They're still dealt. Wither doesn't say "prevent that damage and add -1/-1 counters equal to the damage it would deal," it says it deals that damage. Period. Does the form the damage takes matter?

Enchant Creature
Enchanted creature has ": This creature deals 1 damage to target creature or player."


Pull that off, and you're guaranteed to make your opponent dread his/her turn. Can anyone say lockdown?
