After a very long break, I'm back at it. Still getting back in the groove. I'm having real trouble finding the sweet spot between thinning my paints and having them be too watery. Also, what kind of brushes would you recommend for doing base coat work? All I have are brushes that are too thin or too big right now. That contributes to things getting too thick or too watery. I can get it to spread evenly. Anyway, here it is, an extension of Magus of the Moon, original art by Franz Vohwinkel

@galspanic I'm surprised you, of all people, wouldn't use a straight-edge of some sort to make sure the "time line" in a split-second spell remains straight.

well, in this scenario, you can't concede to gain an advantage for yourself. all conceding can ever do is grant your opponents more points. As for conceding to give another player more points, the most you can do there is to be sure there is no bribery or collusion. Maintain the integrity of the game best you can, and there's nothing wrong with it. Realistically, it isn't a problem. Ask any seasoned magic judge, the second you try to eliminate concessions or intentional draws, you go down some very slippery slopes with respects to tournament integrity. So basically, the short answer to your question is, if someone wants to concede, let them, this structure already solves that problem. nobody should be punished for conceding in this instance. If two player remain at a table, and one of them locks 1st place with a win, and the other can't, then there should be no reason that the player with no shot at first can't concede to the other player without losing their 3rd or 4th place prizes. And you can say, no, he should have to earn it, but then you get in a situation where a player says, ok, we'll play it out, but I'll just intentionally lose, which is just a waste of everyone's time. In my proposed structure, no one can take away points from another player at the table by conceding, which seems like a sufficient fix.

If I may, I think I stumbled upon a really elegant solution for awarding points to tables. Feel free to yell at me if I'm missing something obvious.
I think a really really strong solution is to have points awarded by what order you go out in any given game. Example: In a 4 person game, last man standing is awarded 4 points, 2nd to last, 3 points, first out, 1 point, etc. etc. In the case of multiple players being eliminated simultaneously, they just share the points awarded to those places divided evenly. Example: 1 player combo kills whole table, this player is awarded 4 points, and each other player is awarded (3+2+1)/3 points, for a total of 2 points each. This solves the problem of concessions, and allows for a totally fair top down pairing each round. And the more I type this the more I think that this really really should be the way it's done. If you don't have even tables, say there's one table of 3, then you can just ignore the last place points. awarding the same points for first, 2nd, 3rd as the 4 player tables get, and just not having a 1 point earner. Thoughts?

What is the best way to randomize the beginning tables after everyone has paid and entered?

Well, simplest way is to use the order players signed up for the tournament. Just don't inform the players that that is what you're using, it will remain random. If you're not comfortable with that, use a die that has sides approximate to the number of players. pick a player, roll a number, stick them in that number, reroll numbers that have already been selected, or remainder numbers that don't have a seat, until you have players order 1-12 or whatever, then have 1-4, 5-8, 9-12 play, etc.

Just finished this one up. The first of a stack of alters to put up for sale. Anyone else get finished with an alter, only to find you really want to do more, but are terrified of mucking with it too much? That's what happened here.

In addition, weighing in on the Artist alterations at SCG events, I had the following 2 done by Eric Deschamps at GPKC, he only charged me 5 a piece.

The Dr. Who disappointed, for sure, because I had seen him do something similar for someone else and put a great deal more effort into it. I think I'm just going to do a full alter like that myself and devote a bit more time to it. However, the Skeksis turned out phenomenally. And yes, they are there doing quick doodle alterations with a limited selection of sharpies and paint pens, so, you take what you get.

My scanner still blows, so my only method of getting a clear picture is taking my digital camera, (which also blows), and taking like 20 shots until I get one I like. That being said, I altered this at the behest of a friend of mine, who didn't want it commissioned, just wanted to give me the card to paint it, so I did. I think it is close to one of my best alters, and I can definitely feel the very very slow, gradual improvement in my painting.

I'm stuck. I can't seem to figure out how to get some colors without watering the paints down too much. Everything either seems too clumpy, or almost completely water, which means even if I could get a close color match, I can't blend anything properly. anyone have any clue what I'm doing wrong?

So after months off due to lack of time/supplies/confidence, I'm back on the wagon. This is my first try back, for my mommy for mother's day. She loooooves badgers.

I know it's been said a number of times, but it is simply mind-numbing the way people have been pushing the envelope in terms of talent and creativity. It makes me not want to even continue trying, but I am really trying to turn that feeling towards a push towards improving. I think lack of proper workspace and supplies is really holding me back. What would some of you recommend as the bare minimum to produce a quality alter, in terms of supplies and work area?

    Some commissions

Teysa's a pain in the neck ain't she? I must have tried 3 seperate times to something with those edges that just disappear off into blur, and it's never turned out in a way I'm happy with. Not bad though. It's really hard to make anything look like a natural part of the scenery. The adept is pretty good as well.
