You guys should know who I am by now because I was incessantly posting about my build. I posted so much I deleted prior threads because I did not want to be called stupid or not resourceful for being a beginner. I did not know a ton of stuff. This build was a crash course in EDH. I mean tthese threads were ongoing for weeks. Well I got ALL but one land today and I ran it. I did not have Mana Confluence so I ran one more Swamp. I am tanked so I am going to do my best for play notes for all of you since you guys really put in the work to help me.
OK, first off. My group is not cEDH, but they are not going to lay down either. People play to win but they make sure people have fun too, but winning comes first. It is not toxic and everyone just does their best.
I ****ed up a Cyclonic Rift by Mystical Tutor for it then shuffling my deck immediately after due to a discard draw, I forget the card lol.
I missed so many scry, life loss triggers with The Scarab God.
I got Geth, Lord of the Vault out and attacked an Australian m8 with one thing on the board and he took it so I got a token, lol.
I need more zombaes. 24 is NOT enough. I never drew any of my early zombaes and I was starving most of the time. Although one match I only had 6 lands and I hanged and banged still, that was super cool.
My most threatening board presence was 5 zombies and one was a Geth token. Not good.
Someone did 41 points of Commander damage to me early on because I had land, Cabal Coffers and Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth out and they knew it was going to get filthy quick. And it was.
I need to go up to AT LEAST 28 zombies. I punched my build into EDHRec and most of the zombies they are suggesting I cut due to lack of value, save for things like Lord of the Undead and Relentless Dead
Ty ty for those great suggestions and explanations. I really appreciate it.
I reviewed everything and made the appropriate cuts. I am currently at 115 instead of 113 as you said. I am trying to figure out what next to cut. I am looking now.
Edit: back up to 116, forgot Entomb which I am getting on Friday in a trade.
I've been getting mana screwed big time so in my big order I placed, I have a number of lands. I am a total of FIFTY lands in my collection (it is ALL the cards I have available for the deck so I have an easier time figuring out what to cut). I made a list of cuts to make too so I learn something and don't just ask you to do the work for me. What is the correct amount of basic lands to run in this deck? That much I have NO idea on.
I pulled even more cards when I got home. Right now I am looking at about $175 in store credit if everything goes as planned! That is a healthy amount of money to play with for my decks. I am so excited!
Mystic Confluence $4
Most flexible and powerful counterspell in the format
Solemn Simulacrum $5
Not always a staple but a ramp card that goes into any deck and can be flickered or reanimated and sacced for more value
I choose these over mana rocks because in my opinion rocks only go as far as the cards you can play with them.
This is very good, thank you so much! I knew about Cyclonic Rift and forgot about some of the others you listed. They are on the list for sure! Thank you!
I think Cabal Coffers would be great to get as long as you also have Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth. Grave Titan is powerful AND fun. Lich Lord of Unx can win games.
You didn’t mention him, but Mikeaus the Unhollowed is very powerful and although expensive it is much more affordable now due to a recent reprinting. Consecrated Sphinx is fantastically broken.
As far as mana rocks, the signets are all good. Chromatic lantern is also great for color fixing. Mana crypt is way to expensive for you and not necessary.
Very good! Thank you. I do own Urborg and it is on the decklist I shared. I did add Mikaeus to the list after reviewing him, he seems fantastic.
I would not get cabal coffers. It’s a little narrow.
I would get
Mana crypt
Mana vault
Grim monolith
These go in litterally any commander deck and make the deck better. No matter what the theme is. Unless the theme is don’t play good cards.
Mana Crypt market price: $168.11
Grim Monolith market price: $103.31
I do appreciate you trying to read and just ignoring me like the other posters pointed out.
I just traded in $50 of cards and I am looking to trade in another $60 for a total of $110 store credit with TCGPlayer. Since I am a brand new EDH player (you may remember me, I just built my first ever deck with [The Scarab God](http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/where-is-your-scarab-god-now/)), I wanted to get some staples that were good with any deck and some things or thing and some stuff for the Scarab God deck.
Since I am so new, I wanted to know what staples I should get? Cabal Coffers is the first one and that is certain. What about others? The colors I will be playing are black, black, and green. I would also really like some big upgrades for the above deck too that are not high in price, say $10-15 (less is fine too) or so each if anything. I am taking suggestions now and will be debuting my Scarab God deck at Commander next Thursday. Mana rock upgrades would be good too, the ones I have right now are pretty basic.
The acquire board for The Scarab God deck so far is:
Grave Titan
Lich Lord of Unx
Mindcrank
Overseer of the Damned
Razaketh, the Foulblooded
Rise of the Dark Realms
I saved some cash with a store credit I had. Then the rest I ended up purchasing from another store. Anyway, I got the whole lot. Now I just have to wait for it all to come in. If it was pricy and I had to go moderately played, I went that route if it was not shared in Sultai. Holy whackazoli too, I got an Underground River for $2.79! This boi.
I cannot thank you enough!!!!!!!!!!!!! I really, really appreciate it. I will pick up upgrades soon enough.
This is all fantastic information. Thank you so much!
I reviewed all the edits you suggested and made all of them upon review. I wish more people did what you just did and told me what to replace AND why, not just to run it "because". I am not teaching myself to fish if it's just "run this, run that"... or worse - people just telling me to rebuild my deck because my idea is amoral and wrong. All of this information is very, very good and I am beyond grateful for what you just did.
With all those edits, including keeping Hedron Archive, now I am at 95 cards total for the deck. I did include Champion of Wits and Kagemaro as well since I now have the room. I added some Islands and Swamps, now I am at 97 cards total... so room for 3 more cards and I am sitting at 38 lands. So this is great! This has all been so very helpful. I just need to fill the last 3 cards then I will place my order.
Any suggestions on the final 3? Or should I tweak something with lands or add a land I don't add or? My CMC right now is 3.61 too. I popped over to EDHRec, put my deck in under Recs, and this is what I have for me:
Undead Warchief - too expensive for now Army of the Damned - doable $.85 Grave Titan - too expensive for now Gravecrawler - too expensive for now Sidisi, Undead Vizier - too expensive for now Lord of the Undead - too expensive for now Cyclonic Rift - too expensive for now Relentless Dead - too expensive for now (are you seeing a theme yet? Lol.) Plague Belcher - $.56 Lich Lord of Unx - too expensive for now Liliana, Death's Majesty - at $5.29 I'd be willing to do this one
I mean it'd be quicker to tell you what I would do:
Undead Warchief (given his ability, I would spend some for this guy)
I am really tight on lands and need to find a way to get some more in but wanted to know what last minute adjustments I should make? I cannot go much higher on budget at this point. What other adjustments should I make?
Long story short, I got an Inalla pre-con from my brother for Christmas. I started playing Magic at the release of Ultimate Masters. I draft every Friday and weeks ago I got into EDH. Inalla needed a ton of work to upgrade so he loaned me his Edgar deck to play with to get a better feel for the game.
Now I am building my first non-precon EDH deck ever. I am going to go with Sultai Tasigur or Muldrotha BUT I cannot afford to build the complete deck right now due to some bills... you know how life goes. Once I get caught up from all of that then it is fine. Fast forward to now.
I have a fair amount of good items from Sultai. Then I wanted to play Dimir mill. Then I did a bunch of homework and built a prototype deck and then I read "oh in EDH with multiple players it is so hard to mill 100 card decks". Being new I have no idea if this is even true or not. I typically play 3-4 people on average when I play once a week. Then I kept switching commanders. Then I settled on The Scarab God. Then after I read "oh in EDH with multiple players it is so hard to mill 100 card decks" I said OK, tribal zombies with The Scarab God.
I have no idea what to do at this point and now I am frustrated because I cannot really get help on what is more accurate and what would be a good use of money. I have to go budget for now just so I can get playing something that is not aggro vampires and anything I end up spending on this deck and cannot use for Sultai is just detracting from the overall purpose. I have a number of upgrades available from Sultai as I said.
Here is a list of options I have available to upgrade with: http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/dimir-mill-budget-upgrade-v691077/ (the maybeboard is my smaller list of available upgrades) - I hope you can see it. I am not sure if it is private or not, I can fix it if not.
I would love to go mill, but the opinion just differs on who you talk to. And I cannot get consistent enough help, I end up spending a bunch of time trying to come up with a deck, then I start all over. I go to EDHRec, I go to ManaBaseCrafter, but I want something that is playable, relatively inexpensive, and can win me games at my lgs. All the pepole I play with know I am new, they are helping me learn, but I feel like a lot of the time with Edgar I am just not learning anythig, that is why I want to build my own budget build until I get the Sultai running. Like I said, the lgs is not cEDH, but everyone absolutely plays to win but it's by far and large social and fun. If I can't go cheap and do what I want then it is whatever, I will just wait until I can fund the Sultai and play then. And if Dimir is fine and mill is not then I am open to suggestions on what to play based on cost and competitiveness.
I've been working on my Sultai deck for EDH. Long story short is I wanted to do something in a Thief of Sanity mechanic style. It was suggested I go Sultai over Esper due to ramp, which I do like way more. Plus I can still play cards like Thief of Sanity. Tasigur is my commander.
Moving forward to today, I still want to play that style of stealing from people's graveyards. I have also discovered I like playing politics, I do not just want to win by creatures, and I want to be able to counter and stop threats that need to be stopped. I will be playing on-one-one sparingly with just my brother, but regularly at my lgs, usually with four other people. I do not want a deck that is OP or competitive, I want to have fun and I do not want to piss people off.
I got back from Magic Fest about 2 hours ago (people need to learn how to shower, for real). It was my first one ever. I took a huge spreadsheet of what I wanted. I got 35 cards total. I had existing cards from a previous order. This is the summation of just the cards I SPECIFICALLY got for this deck: https://deckbox.org/sets/2275109
My brother got me the Inalla pre-con Commander 2017 deck for Christmas. So I have cards from that as well: https://deckbox.org/sets/2263686
A fellow redditor made some suggestions for me as well, that is why I picked some of the things up. I got my first ever planeswalker today, Liliana of the Dark Realms. Even if I do not play her, I Just wanted to buy one.

Sidisi, Undead Vizier + Unholy Grotto = winning ideas, Tom. Sidisi, tutor, sac Sidisi, Unholy Grotto. Man it's going down.
I ****ed up a Cyclonic Rift by Mystical Tutor for it then shuffling my deck immediately after due to a discard draw, I forget the card lol.
I missed so many scry, life loss triggers with The Scarab God.

I got to play Training Grounds and Rooftop Storm but no zombaes = the succ.
In all 4 matches in 3.5 hours I drew ZERO 1 CMC creatures.
I did not draw Liliana, Untouched by Death once.
The finisher?
Someone did 41 points of Commander damage to me early on because I had land, Cabal Coffers and Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth out and they knew it was going to get filthy quick. And it was.
I need Rise of the Dark Realms

Finally got it down to 100, we're good!
The prototype: http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/scarab-god-the-last-don-remix/
Lands to cut absolutely:
Help me learn, Obi-EDH Kenobi, you're my only hope (not really but I just wanted to say it).
This is very good, thank you so much! I knew about Cyclonic Rift and forgot about some of the others you listed. They are on the list for sure! Thank you!
Thanks for those! That was a sample of what I was looking for too.
Very good! Thank you. I do own Urborg and it is on the decklist I shared. I did add Mikaeus to the list after reviewing him, he seems fantastic.
