I can't believe people are actually complaining about not getting enough land sent! Most stores don't WANT any more lands. Who the heck wants more basic lands?

Well, the store that I play at would love to have more basic lands. We don't run very many constructed events, but we do hold at least 3 drafts a week. Each of those events can run between 2-4 pods so having more basic land would make it much easier for everyone. Before I left for winter break, there was a shortage of forests and swamps So my opinion is the more lands the merrier.

All I can say is that it'll be a shame that this art will be on such small cards. It feels so much more epic when they're blown up.

Argh, I couldn't stay to play out that last round in the tournament and this thread just makes me feel worse that I missed out on my chance to win on of those mutavaults. Playing five rounds and going 4-1 for nothing just upsets me ever so much. Still, they look great and I'm glad that at least they're starting to give them out.

In my experience, I have had a very pleasant experience as well as mildly pleasant experience.

At the store closest to home, which I only go to during holidays away from college, it's okay with $12 drafts with rare re-drafting at the end. It's not bad since the store basically charges msrp for packs so they can make a profit. It's a fairly small store so I don't feel bad at all about it.

However, the store next to campus has a much more generous drafting policy. It's actually spoiled me quite I bit I believe. Entry costs $11, it's three rounds of swiss, you keep what you draft, and prizes are based on record. A 3-0 finish nets you either $12 in store credit or 6 packs from any of the sets still in print. 2-0-1 is either $8 in store credit or 4 packs. 2-1 is either $4 in store credit or 2 packs, and 1-1-1 is either $2 in store credit or 1 pack. This store allows us to either spend credit regularly on anything that they carry or trade it in for packs at a rate of $2 a pack. This prize structure is constant for drafts sanctioned or unsanctioned and the store will hold drafts as long as there are at least 6 people, unsanctioned of course. Although I do remember we once did a 14 person draft. I'm not quite sure what we were thinking that night, but we did it...

Anyways I've talked with the TO before on how they're able to do this and basically he told me that the store simply charges cost and doesn't make any money off of the tournaments, but it does attract a really large crowd that usually buys other things from the store. We usually have 2 pods at any given night and around 4 pods for FNM, so I'm assuming that their strategy is working, after all, I've certainly spent a fair amount of money at the store on other things such as boardgames, birthday presents, etc.

I prefer how the store near campus does it because it is so inexpensive with such nice prize support. I know that even if I don't open too well I can still come out ahead with a strong performance. I don't mind re-drafting rares and it's definitely the way to go when drafting in a playgroup where people bring their own packs.

Another way that my playgroup often drafts is team drafting with everyone on the losing team paying the winning team 2 packs. We usually only do that while cube drafting though.
