MTG Salvation

So, I recently got a Rakdos Guild Kit as a gift, and the sweet new art on Rakdos, Lord of Riotshas me wanting to make a demon tribal deck. But, I don't know how to build demon tribal other then Shadowborn Apostle-style decks, which I'm not super interested in running. Is a non-shadowborn-based demon deck actually possible/viable? I could really use some suggestions.

maybe it’s too early to tell but with Ravnica Allegiance is midrange just bad now? I’m asking b/c I was looking for a new standard deck to build (haven’t played standard in years) and was drawn to an abzan midrange deck I saw on mtggoldfish, but I’m concerned that Allegiance standard aggro and control will just dominate midrange. Is it safe to go for this deck? Or should I just go for an aggrieved deck (the control decks seem a little outside my budget at the moment)

You know the Professor over at TCC just did an episode where he interviews Gavin, and this was one of the things they talked about. Gavin basically said stuff like fetches wouldn’t be put into Commander precons because they try to keep reprints selective to the appropriate audience, i.e. in his own words, fetch lands being necessary for modern so they are more likely to appear in a modern focused supplemental product.

Hello all, after recieving such great help with my previous deck building questions I'm back for advice on antoher deck I've decided to build, this time its Dragon Tribal.


I know the "best" Dragon Tribal deck is 5-color, but I just don't have the budget to spend on a good 5-color manabase. HOWEVER, after having taken apart my 3 older decks, I do have a decent number of the Better Gruul lands. I know I could just run Gruul dragons, but I also have some dragons I wouldnt mind running int the 99 that don't fit into just RG. So I've decided I'd like to build a tri-color deck....... but I'm having trouble deciding what that third color should be. What are the benifits of Jund over Temur or Naya and vise versa? Commander suggestions are also welcome.

Thanks to everyone who posted tips and suggestions, they were a big help in me building this deck. Based on advice from this thread and some outside sources I wound up building a Mono-W Gisela control deck with an angel/lifegain theme rather then a more dedicated tribal deck and its been a blast playing. BTW, whoever suggesting playing Cradle of Vitality, THANK YOU! That card is really great, especially alongside Herald of War.

Just as an aside, in defense of my playgroup's threat assesment (we've had a talk and everyone's agreed to try to do better and scale the competitive edge back a bit) I and a few others felt bad and offered to play him in a less competitve pod when he came back. Turns out Temur dinos are still scary when they have a turn 5 Etali, Primal Storm AND Nezahal, Primal Tide out at the same time!

Now on to the next deck lol.

edit: I am debating switching Gisela for Lyra but not sure how much a difference that 1 extra mana would make. Feel free to weigh in .

Thank you everyone for your suggestions, they’ve been tremendous help so far. I was surprised at how many people were suggesting mono-white commanders, I may need to rethink about excluding them.

As for the Kaalia debate, as I mentioned before, rightly or wrongly her reputation makes any game with her an auto archenemy game, something I’m not interested in. The playgroup at my lgs absolutely hates commanders like Kaalia and Animar and will go after them without hesitation.

Decent example; just the other week we had a person from a few towns over come in with his new dinosaur tribal deck. Everyone was excited to play..... until he opened his deck box and showed that it was ANIMAR temur Dinos. The pod he was in (I was in another pod unfortunately) immediately became an archenemy game until he scooped around turn 5..... and this being a pod that had a Scarab God mill deck AND an infect deck in the mix. So yeah, Kaalia as awesome as she is is definitely out.

@ISBPathfinder With running mono-white how do you deal with ramp outside of artifacts (I've shied away from artifact ramp lately because of all the artifact hate that people incorporated after C2018).

@FunkyDragon I think the main strategy I had settled on was using more controlling angels like Angelic Arbiter, Archangel of Tithes, maybe "cough" Linvala, Keeper of Silence"cough" alongside some enchantments like Ghostly Prison, etc...

edit: Linvala wasn't an option b/c I know what happens when people see her in the command zone and I do want to stick to 2-3 colors.

@3Drinks Like I said in my original post, Kaalia just gets auto-targeted because of her reputation for degeneracy, and I'm not all that good at playing archenemy.

Hey thanks for responding. I had considered Sigarda but found the issue being her protection from sacrifice ability almost never comes up (in all of 3 years running the deck its been a factor in a game exactly once.) What I do find to be a threat are spot removal/boardwipes alongside super fast aggressive strategies (not alot of all-in combo decks surprisingly), a few I can think of right off the bat being Purphoros goblins, Tuvasa the Sunlit, The Scorpion God, just to name a few. Usually by the time I'm dropping Sigarda(ususally turn 6-7 because I'm delaying my death) they've either got an answer or have alreay pummeled me to the point where she's useless and I die anyways. wasnt sure if i need to just answer that with my own removal or not, and I've been told most the "good" angels are in red/white, so I wasnt sure how I should run it.

Name of the thread says it all. Until recently I've been running a Sigarda, Host of Herons voltron deck but I've gotten bored with it and want to turn the deck into an Angel tribal deck. I want to mainly run angels with some control support since the tribe isnt the fastest in the world. I think I've managed to narrow my list of potential commanders down to 4:Shalai, Voice of Plenty, Archangel Avacyn, Jenara, Asura of War, or Selenia, Dark Angel.

My playgroup is my local LGS, so official commanders only (otherwise I'd run maelstrom archangel ), and Kaalia gets to hated.

Any advice welcome
