  • posted a message on black suns zenith, reaper, messenger
in play is a Geralf's messenger with a plus one counter, and a cemetery reaper If I play black sun's zenith for 3 and it resolves, before anyone gets priority, the game will notice cemetery reaper has -1 toughness and put him in the grave.

I know that if the zenith had been for 4, the messenger would also have been put in the graveyard at the same time, before the counters cancelled out and therefore it would not bounce back from the graveyard with undying. if the zenith was for two, the messenger would survive and have the plus one counter removed. what I want to know is whether the game will check the toughness again before before it gets rid of the counters. I want to know for sure from someone who knows better how state based affects are applied exactly what happens with the zenith for 3.

  • posted a message on shady nasty
this year at christmas my cousin was telling a story supposedly told her by a friend who works in the emergency room. he kapt calling for the name on the paper, which he'd had a coworker confirm was shady nasty, but nobody came, until one patient got angry and said something along the lines of
"Oh no you didn't! Its Sha'dynasty! (sha - dynasty) don't you see the up-comma?"

it reminded me of the story her mother used to tell about the year she'd had to teach social studies and one of the kids was real interested in the process for changing one's name. She claimed to have gotten in trouble with the mother for telling him what he wanted to know because according to her, the name was a gift from God. Shed been on a stretcher headed to the delivery room when she saw it in big red letters- "Nosmo King"

  • posted a message on back in the dark ages, of the mid 90s...
    Kids today.

Things were totally different for us as kids. if you wanted to talk on the phone, you had to do it at home because that was the only place the phone -worked-, and it was probably attached to the wall. There weren't any apps for anything. you couldn't even take pictures with it. The only thing it could do was make phone calls. In my day you shook it like a polaroid picture because it -was- a polaroid picture.

Nobody had e-mail when I was a kid. if you wanted to send somebody a message without using the phone you had to write them real mail. With a pencil! and paper! And every time you sent it you had to buy a stamp and wait a week before the got it. And replying! If you wanted to copy and paste then you had better break out your scissors and glue!

When I was young, you considered yourself fortunate if your desktop computer had more than half a gig of memory, and god forbid you wanted to connect to the internet. there wasn't any ethernet or T1 lines, and forget about WIFI. NO! you had to use the phone line at your house. we connected to AOL at 35 kilobytes per second while the phone line made whistling and popping noises under the strain. In the snow, uphill, both ways! If a web page you wanted to look at had a picture on it, you might as well go make yourself a snack while you waited for it to load.

And if you wanted to go somehwere you'd never been You had to use a map. Not a google map, a real map! and forget about GPs. If you wanted your route highlighted, you used a highlighter pen! and we liked it that way!

And speaking of google, you kids have no idea how good you've got it. If we wanted to know some random fact about something, there was place we could go too. It was called the library. Its search engine was called the dewy decimal system. It didn't use 'hits', it used index cards. The 25 and older crowd knows what I'm talking about.

back in the day, message boards were made of cork. if you wanted to post something, you needed a post-it or a thumb-tack

edit: back then the only spell checker we had was called a dictionary!

  • posted a message on mimick vat and gatekeeper
how do mimic vat and celestial gatekeeper interact? does a token gatekeeper that is sacrificed get back birds/clerics?

when I originally thought of this question I thought celestial gatekeeper read "...remove it from the game. If you do..."
how would it work if that was the case?

  • posted a message on armored mutiny
if I cast mark of mutiny on a creature equipped with argentum armor and then attack with it, who will choose what gets destroyed by the triggered ability and why? I fear I already know the answer, but I'd like to hear it from a more knowledgeable source.

  • posted a message on Dissipation Field, Fling, Memoricide, Boomerang Questions
    1. in the first case, memoricide doesn't target, so naming the card isn't part of casting the spell. You don't have to name the card memoricide is removing until it begins to resolve. once it (or any other spell) begins to resolve, no new spells or abilities can be added to the stack until it finishes resolving. once it is finished resolving the boomerang will be exiled.

    2. the ability of dissapation field is a triggered ability. when the creature deals damage, the ability will trigger and go on the stack, saying to return the creature to its owners hand. that ability can be responded to with spells like fling.

    3. If the creature's controller casts fling before diminish resolves (and there is an opportunity to do this) then the damage will be 4

  • posted a message on another precursor golem question.
If I target precursor golem and an opponent with a fireball, dealing 4 damage to each, will the fireball be copied for each other golem? does "only a single golem" mean 'not more than one golem', or does it mean 'only one target, and that target is a golem'

  • posted a message on [SCD] Precursor Golem
this is all very win more. if you're going for competetive in standard one billion golems is many more than are necessary to win. you aren't going to need much more than a 2 budies, and vines of vastwood. I've also been looking at the possibilites of withstand death and the worst new leyline ( against red decks)
I have nothing againt winning more personally. park of me cackles with glee at the prospect of over one million golems.

  • posted a message on New Jace Artwork?
I too can see the resemblance, but I don't think this is Jace. I think this is probably just some acolyte (as the title suggest) that happens to wear a hood and use some kind of glowy magic. These things are pretty common in fantasy art and since its missing the rest of Jace's signature outfit, i'm doubting its him.

  • posted a message on [SOM]Explore Mirrodin: Platinum Emperion and Trinket Mage
does anyone else think its kind of weird that they're reprinting trinket mage and silver myr, and both silver myr and trinket mage were in the tezzeret half of the elspeth vs tezzeret duel deck, but only silver myr was listed as being in scars of miroden in the elspeth vs tezzeret insert?

  • posted a message on Dreadnought Triggers
the confusion over this is probably because for a while this card had been erattad with a "if this card would come into play" triggered ability, but has since reverted to its original wording. The errata would have stopped this from working, but since its the original wording it works.

  • posted a message on helm combo
If wheel of sun and moon is added to the scenario as mentioned above, and the owner of the graveyard is choosing it's replacement effect rather than that of leyline of the void, can they ever be required to stop choosing the wheel in order to break the loop?

  • posted a message on Karn as Phyrexia's new leader
Reading the ftv relics insert, I had the exact same impression from the same passages. I think that it will eventually be explained that when Karn Gave up his spark, he lost the ability to totally resist the phyrexian influences that had been incorporated into his body and was immediately attacked from within (or even from without) by them. It would go a long way toward explaining his mysterious behavior and the sudden resurgence of phyrexia on his old plane.

edit: reading more of the thread, the enemy he created could have been the mirrari/memnarch which contained phyrexian corruption/componnents that twisted it on other occasions and allowed it to overmaster Karn after somehow tracking him down at his moment of weakness. I know its starting to stretch a bit, but it just seems to fit too well too many ways to not try to make the puzzle piece fit.

what is the interaction between leyline of punishment and reverent silence? can you not even attempt to play it for the alternate cost? or can you play it for the alternate cost and the players don't gain the life? or do they somehow gain the life because the enchantment is gone when its done resolving or some such reason?
