Hello all! I’m sorry that I haven’t been able to post until now, and won’t be able to do it often in the future if at all. I just wanted to show you my build currently.
Like you guys, I love Teferi, and I am very high on FoN with it and Queller. Queller is also impressive. Geist just gets chump blocked, so I’d rather side it in grindier matchups. Along with Queller, Seasoned Pyro fills that spot in the curve quite well. As for the side, 4 RIP is absolutely required in this modern, despite the anti-synergy with snapcaster. Thanks for any advice and all your work in the archetype!
ktenshinx posted on reddit, he pointed out that this art is not new. I don't think I would have noticed it, thanks to ktk for going down that rabbit hole.
The art being old, nonmagic art delegitimizes this card quite a bit. Sure, there are some possibilities like the artist being contracted to WotC, but when has art been reused for a card? Especially a card "leaked" by some reddit user. This whole thing seems very phony.
Brilliant Necromancer
Creature- Zombie Wizard
Whenever a creature enters the battlefield under your control, each opponent exiles 2 cards from their hand.
You can't cast creature spells from your hand.
All other creatures get -2/-1.
1/3
Debt Collection
Sorcery
Overload
Destroy target creature. Create a 1/1 black and white Spirit creature token with flying for each creature destroyed this way.
Aphetto Blackmailer
Creature- Human Rogue Wizard
When Aphetto Blackmailer enters the battlefield, look at each player's hand.
Draw a card if a creature card is revealed this way.
The absence of reminder text for spectacle on a non-promo card (and the very crappy quality) makes it look like a fake. A lot.
That's true... I though it would be different because it was a mythic. (See: Lazav, the Multifarious, March of the Multitudes and so on)
There seems to be the top of another card in the photo. Did the poster on reddit address it?
The only argument against the Stoneforge mystic unban is that every white deck would run it, thus warping the usage of the card. BUT, most 1 drops are used already in tons of decks, like Noble hierarch and Faithless looting.
Every white deck? Company can't afford to play equipment (misses on CoCo), uwr and uw can't afford to cut slots, and it's too slow in stuff like uwr tempo and mardu pyro. SFM only powers up decks like taxes, abzan, and other lacking decks. And to argue that humans/spirits could play it? There is no way that humans could run a non-human maindeck, and spirits can't play another noncreature for CoCo.
I don't have time to grind this game. I don't want to spend money on gems on packs just so I can advance on the ladder. I know that WotC doesn't want the economy like that of MTGO, with bots forcing humans out of the marketplace. But please? Trading? But no bots? It would help more enfranchised players with us, and new players could just text their friend or something and trade.
Other than this hope, the game feels very complete, as far as casual play goes. No best of 3 ranked, no organized tournaments, it seems lacking to a spike like me. But it is the fun, complex game I fell in love with, and I think WotC did a fantastic job on this game.
As for field of ruin, it is much to slow. I wouldn't worry about problematic lands game 1, but you can run some hate sideboard if your meta calls for it.
On another topic, remember this boegeyman?
I have 2 sideboard slots he could fit in, although he's not well positioned against aggro, which makes up a ton of the meta right now. I could see him working, but he might just be another card for the sideboard page of my binder.
Censor testing complete, it didn't play well. Whenever you wanted it, Remand would be better. I am only running 2 Remand anyway, so I will go to a full playset.
I have some questions about the manabase for a more experienced player. Running a delver manabase with 18 lands often leads to screw, and fetches only exaggerate that problem by thinning your deck. In your opinion, would replacing fetchlands with fastlands (Spirebluff Canal, Inspiring Vantage, and Seachrome Coast) be beneficial to the deck?
I barely managed to go to modern night this week, I got 3-1!
Match 1: Faeries (2-0)
Game 1: T3 Delver flip, rode it out to victory. This deck was more of an control version, not the kind with cliques and more cliques.
SB: -2Vendilion Clique, +2Anger of the Gods
Bitterblossom is annoying, so the ability to reset a board is great. Clique is okay, but not great here.
Game 2: Snapcaster double bolt a kalitas, eke out a win with burn spells past 1/1 faeries.
Match 2: TitanShift (2-0)
Game 1: Played geist t3, remanded scapeshift, won because opponent couldn't find interaction.
SB: I don't have hate for this matchup, so I ran it back out.
Game 2: Opponent can't find Titan or scapeshift despite ramping to 8 lands, easy win.
Matches 3 and 4 coming soon!
Match 3: BridgeVine (0-2)
Game 1: Opponent gets the nut hand, attacks with 2 Vengevines t2. I scoop to a t3 kill (I had no interaction)
SB:-4 Remand +2 Rest in Peace +2 Anger of the Gods
Game 2: I don't draw RiP, opponent goes for a slower strategy with fatal push and discard. Lose in 7 turns.
Match 4: Taxes (2-1)
Game 1: I get stuck under a Crucible of Worlds, Leonin Arbiter, and Ghost Quarter lock. Scoop.
SB: -4 Remand +2 Anger of the Gods +2 Abrade
Anger kills armies of weenies, Abrade can be spot removal or take out a vial. (I'm not sure about abrade though. Maybe it's bad because of Thalia's tax.)
G2: No lock, got kill with Geist after removing Thalia.
G3: Mana screwed opponent, I win with flipped delver. That's variance for you, I guess.
I actually think no cards will be banned. Only unbans will happen next announcement. I really don't think the data shows anything worth banning.
If I had to predict something being banned, I'd say probably something from Dredge, even though I don't think Creeping Chill's intention is a good argument for it. The dust has settled and Dredge is a good deck, but not worth banning
If you are talking about banning chill, that should not even be a consideration. I don't think any card has been banned in modern less than 3 months after release. Some other dredge enabler needs a ban.
Yeah, Creeping Chill was designed to be used with Surveil, not with decks that can put half their library into the graveyard by turn 3.
Yes, that card was designed for limited. I bet nobody in play design thought that dredge, even before that one of the more unfair decks in the format, would play this card. Free Lightning Helix, anybody?
