budget mono white control deck inspired by death and taxes. With equipment theme due to good budget tutors that can find utility equipment or worldslayer. Running the deck with avacyn as the commander is she is one of my favorite cards. The plan is to stall the game enough with hatebears and wraths when needed to win the game with avacyn+nevyniralls disk effect or mld. Also trying to run some angels where i can as i like them.
Currently trying to make cuts to get to 100 cards. currently like at 108. budget list to start so no suggestions over like 5$ currently the cards i need about at budget a little over 100$. Already own some of the expensive cards.
thx. totally forgot teshar was thing. it seems like teshar could be good as the commander for a death and taxes style deck shes sun titan for hatebears and looking at your deck tech and edhrec there's a decent amount of cards that incidentally trigger her. teshar definitely seems like a fun option
maybe i will go in and watch a game probably a good idea.
From talking to people at the store it seems that its not really Cedh where everyone's playing tier fast combo and stax decks but people will play powerful cards and commanders. i was told I shouldn't worry about being hated out just for having a general like kaalia or for land destruction.
Im not set on land destruction in the deck its just a mechanic i personally enjoy. i guess part of enjoying controlling cards but hating blue.
didnt know about terrain generator though emeria is also one of my main reasons to go mono white.
Im aiming for a hatebears death and taxes strategy that curves into hate creatures that aren't bears later. modifying the strategy for more staying power.
Also mono white reanimator with bruna sounds fun to me and the reanimation cards can pull double duty as recursion for any important creatures.
Avacyn MLD isn't like the main strategy its just a win con for avacyn. mainly like avacyn cause the arts amazing and indestructible is nice. I consider my copy the crown jewel of my collection.
I also like nahiri mainly because she recurs any important equipment and the obvious synergy with skullclamp.
if people are playing fetches thalia heretic cathar
would be a funny anti meta commander as well.
I decided not to build edgar because i dont really feel like playing aggro and i have a bunch of kitchen table vampire decks i can play. And decided instead to go for an angel themed deck my other favorite tribe. Since im not much for straight aggro and my angel deck for kitchen table is deemed to good by my friends i play casual with.
At pre release I was talking about the commander night with people and it seems there ok with mld and dont have huge problems with hating people out. So im not to worried about my strategy in that respect.
For mono white Id probably do a type of mono white control deck. Curving hate bears into hate Angels. backed up by wraths and some MLD. Also an equipment package because even budget there's some decently priced equip tutors and equipment for card draw ,ramp, protection and even an everything wrath in WorldSlayer.
I'm still picking he commander and I'm wondering if mono whites actually that bad. It gets the most wraths, and has some recursion engines, and good hate bear type creatures. As for card draw mentor of the meek, bygone bishop and equipment can provide card advantage. Im also almost tempted to put smuggler's copter in this category even though its filtering just because its good. artifacts plus whites ramp creatures which can trigger mentor or bygone bishop. Should be able to handle ramp as well.
I think I’m going to try Vampire Nocturnus as I have 45 black cards so the odds aren’t to terrible. Will make the other suggested cuts. Though Butcher of Malakir stays as I don’t have dictate or grave pact and would rather save those for later upgrades after I’ve decided if this is like what I want to play. Also bloodthrone vampire is staying due to the ability to sacrifice for free at instant speed on a vampire.
I like the upgrades suggested but I think I’ll save twilight prophet for a couple months after rotation. Otherwise would be in already.
To bad about avacyn angel of hope though. Mainly wanted to put her in for flavor and because I wanted to put her in a deck bought her and kaalia of the vast on a price dip. But like none of my friends like playing against my angel reanimator cause it’s “OP”.
My budget edgar markov deck i created to try out edh. Mostly used cards i own with the main upgrades being to my mana base and Necropotence as i already had a lot of cards for the deck. and im not sure about my commander choice or playing edh.
My strategy is to run it as an aggressive tokens deck due to Edgar Markov essentially making every vampire half a lingering souls. There's some aristocrats and sacrifice elements to the deck mainly because Dark Prophecy turns every vampire into 2 cards if i get board wiped. So I included some incidental sacrifice effects on cards that would be good in the deck anyways to make sure my creatures die for real and dont exile. However aristocrats isnt the main strategy.
I really want to fit in a Chromatic Lantern but not sure what to cut. Also cards maybye board are other things id like to get in but not sure if they have a place.
Do you think a slower more midrange version of Edgar with more draw recursion and protection pieces for staying power. would work better if I currently don’t have access to the stax pieces and fast tutors. Trying to dip my toes into edh at my lgs as I like the community there. putting together a basic Edgar list as vampires have been one of my main decks since I started playing back in m13 so have a good amount of cards already and like the theme. Not sure if he’s the deck I’ll continue with from there also like kaalia/tariel(depending on meta) and liliana heretical healer.
Is the butcher worth keeping if there a bit of a sacrifice sub theme involved. Sacking a token to a viscera seer or indulgent aristocrat or my elderly monument to make everyone else sack seems good. And I don't have grave pact or dictate atm.
Working on a list of my upgraded Edgar preco to bring to my lgs and I was wondering how many vampire cards an Edgar deck needs to work at a minimum. Because obviously I want a good amount to trigger eminence and other tribal effects but then there’s non vampire creatures and non creatures with effects that are useful like my avacyn and purphuros, eldrazi monument, draw and ramp spells removal etc.
So I’m wondering about how many vampires the deck should have at a minimum to function properly. I’m going for an aggroy midrange as I like to play lots of distruption and or card advantage in my aggro decks and they end up a bit like midrange.
I'll have to look closer into that cause undying is pretty fun. Also there's the benefit of not needing to buy 6 inistrad packs. What's your thoughts on avacyn restored I've h are mixed things about it.
Wasn't really going for pulling any card in particular one of my main reasons for choosing inistrad block is I love the cards in the set in general so even without pulling my favorite strategy it's still going to have cards I want to play. Unless I pull to much blue I'm bad at playing that color.
There's casual event going on at my lgs and you start by picking a plane and making a sealed deck from that plane. Inistrad is either my first or 2ND fav plane switches with ravnica. So I'm picking that.
I was wondering what the composition should be. Should I do 2 of each set or maybe 3&3 inistrad and dark ascension as I've heard that limited environment was good.
