hm, maybe, although after discussing with my cube group no one seems to think there is too many lands, in fact most people complain they don't get enough lands...
anyways, I have been considering taking out some under performers and trying out new stuff, here are the changes I am considering, what do you guys think
Jitte, Top, Jitte,
The only card I will EVER considering taking over Top p1p1 is sol ring, even then its a tough call.
for Sheed's list
Parallax Wave-I love to draft WW, especially when it seems to be under drafted a lot, chrome mox is the safe pick here.
Timewalk-Good in aggro, good in control, the only problem is blue is busted and this pack is no exception, what can you do
Plow Under or Mother of runes-This will depend entirely on my mood on the day, plow under once will give you an crazy advantage, plow under twice will win the game out right. while mother of runes is just so fun!
Top for me, sure, Treachery is great, but top is absolutely stupid, there is a reason why that card is run as a 4 off in control/combo/Aggro deck in extended @_@
Rofl, some nice stories here, the 5 Lightning Helix is a nice touch, it reminds me after some testing sessions that year I took apart my Tron deck and found 5 mana leaks, epic fail...
I don't really have a play group, I just go to my local store which is like 10 minutes walk from my place and I can pretty much always find people there.
It really depends on game 2 or game 1, how much do you know about his deck, how important are the creatures, have you seen any tricks previously, how much tricks are present in the particular draft format, but most of the time I don't block, even when I also have a trick, because that means I get to attack back for 3
My advice is this, practice, practice, practice. my local community is pretty talent dry, apart from me there are only 2~3 decent players, when I started playing magic again after a very long break in Ravnica, I did nothing but drafted, I drafted 4 times a week, even against bad players, good players, whatever, 6 people, 8 people, 10 people, we just drafted like crazy, and I got very very good with that format. However, I was then still not mature enough to realize how bad I was. I went to nationals and won every single side-drafts we did the day before, than won all my draft matches in the main event (lets not talk about constructed)
But I was still terrible, even though I thought I was good back then. I slowly matured during Timespiral Block, my victories were less common, as I had other commitments than to draft all day, but I believe I improved, as I started to see just how terrible I was, every play, I could have done things better. Its also at this point I stopped blamming to mana screw, if I lost a game due to mana issues, I would look back on the game, examine every detail, was there something I could have done better, a better mulligan decision, making 1 small misplay somewhere, even when it could have hardly matter, I don't blame the mana, because I did not do everything I could to pull that game out, so there was no point in blaming the mana.
Also about getting a better player to watch you thing, I completely agrees, I still remember there was 1 game ages ago (TTP) I think, I was watching one of my friends playing the game, he had the advantage, but then he just started doing everything wrong, it wasn't like he was making bad choices, or bad trades, after the game I talked to him about this, and commented on how I would have played differently from turn 5ish onwards and was confident I would have won the game, he asked me "So what play was the wrong play" thats when it hit me, there wasn't actually a game losing mistake, but he simply didn't keep his eyes on the prize, he didn't think about how to win, he was just thinking about trading creatures, etc, etc. It was a large number of very small misplays that cost him the game.
But trust me, luck has very little to do with it, if they are getting results, they must be doing something right
good luck, Drafting is awesome.
