This card is a paradox. It was clearly designed to not be used the way it was designed to be used.
Works wondrous with wheel effects.
We need a card that transforms black into red mana to be able to cast the drawn wheel effects. This would enable a very degenerate deck. Manaforge Cinder is limited and Agent of Stromgald has the wrong direction.
I have the same problem right now with my planned ‚5 color black‘ deck (all colored cards have to be black or muliticolor with black; all lands have to produce black mana). I cut around 100 cards.
I know the struggle with too many subthemes. In the deck they are thief, lifedrain, sacrifice and reanimate (I already cut mass discard and stax). I could build a own deck for each theme but I don‘t want that because the deck shall be ‚the best deck ever without any fillers‘ (aside from several of my pet cards).
Champions of Kamigawa was released in fall 2004 and Coldsnap in summer 2006. So both cards were only for three months in the same Standard environment.
I have no idea if there was a deck for the cards. I only remember the Ghostdad deck from that time.
E.g.:
Thassa -> Merfolk
Pharika -> Gorgon
Mogis -> Minotaur
She would also be very nice for my planned creature-only-Jund EDH deck.
Overseer of the Damned
Ogre Slumlord
Pawn of Ulamog
Wurmcoil Engine

The deck content was:
- Counterspells
- Cheap draw
- Mass Polymorph
- Some big Eldrazi with Annihilator
I played it three times but never found Mass Polymorph.
Also the artwork is a rip-off of Vish Kal, Blood Arbiter.
Ashnod’s Altar + Nim Deathmantle + Pawn of Ulamog + Priest of Gix = infinite black mana and infinite gravestorm
Whisper, Blood Liturgist + Illusionist‘s Bracers + Thornbite Staff + at least two creatures on the battlefield + at least two creatures in the graveyard = infinite gravestorm and infinite etb triggers of the used creatures
