I’m getting worried- I was hoping for a foil printing of Sydri, Galvanic Genius,
but they’re printing every other Esper legendary instead :’(

They probably didn't have time to commission new art for that card in time, and the existing art is now officially on the reserved list.

But they printed Force of Will?

Yeah, art is not the reason it wasn't printed.

People on both sides of the political spectrum go after people who don't think like them. Let's not get tribal in these forums and believe that "my side in innocent and your side is evil"

Therese shouldn't have been let go. Outside political views should have no bearing on your work, period.

Disagree if you want, it's an extreme and Fascist view to disagree with issues of free speech.

    Liberalism FTW.

The virus is more under control than it looks. Cases are way up in the US, but deaths are way down. This new wave is far less lethal than previous waves, which is good. It's not all hopeless.

(if you don't believe, google Covid Cases. Use the google chart set to United States and switch between cases and deaths to see the difference)

I have hope that this will start to end soon. Up here in Ontario Canada we're moving into Stage 3 of our reopening. My store is already open a few days a week.

They’re pretty bad, but both Theros sets are abysmal from a power level perspective.
The original Theros set was one of the worst since like Prophecy,
though the Mythics helped it a bit.

The current Theros set is prefectly fine for power level. It has cards that are played in multiple formats including one banned in Legacy.

Get that BLM and Defund the Police nonsense off the site. This isn't the place for it.

This isn't a political forum, it's about magic cards. We don't need to be bombarded by outside nonsense when discussing our hobby.

I'm wondering if there's a cycle of mythic 5 drop creatures with this, Elder Gargaroth, and Baneslayer.

Everyone talking about prices here forgets that there's a second part of the price equation. It's called demand.

You can ***** about higher prices, but someone is paying for it. That means the price is right for the market. If you want lower prices then stop buying.

I hope everyone realizes packs are always the least cost effective way to get cards. If money is your concern then never buy packs, just the singles you need.

Either starting with one less card or skipping your first draw step seem like reasonable fixes for companion. Maybe even skipping your next draw step after casting your companion. Anything to take away the "8th card advantage".

I feel like people here are often too harsh. The interview was fine.

Let's be realistic, there isn't a contest for being most obnoxious person on the forum. Relax a bit.

Nerds often are the harshest and most critical of their own hobbies. It gets rediculous at times.

Most judges are pretty good. I've been to a lot of events and I trust that the few times people will try something they have a good chance of being caught.

But just to note, of course you CAN cheat. I've never said you can't. But there are always ways to cheat, and new ways with almost every set. I would say the most sketchy standard environment for shady plays was Khans of Tarkir with both manifest and morph at the same time. There was a lot of room for abuse, yet it all worked out. I'm just an optimist.

The moment someone with Lutri has a second copy of a card you know they're cheating. As others have pointed out, deck building restrictions have existed for a few decades and it has been fine.

If you've ever done tournament play, you would know that deck lists are submitted in advance and random deck checks are performed by judges. So in no real sense is anyone at risk of being bamboozled.

As I mentioned, you can just keep the second copy in hand - that way they typically cant catch you - outside discard effects. It hurts a bit, but if you say play 2 of each card, you are still very unlikely to see both and in that case it does not hurt at all.

Deck checks: note that the requirement is on your main deck only. You can have cards in sb breaking the singleton rule (if you followed the rules you could then sb in and not play with your companion or you could use it as a wishboard in older formats that has wishes). Failure to de sideboard is typically game loss (I imagine this stuff will get you DQed though if it just smells like this). Thus, you just put your duplicates in sb, shuffle them in and then “forget” to de-sideboard. Heck, deck checks are typically only performed before first game, so you can cheat this way in the second an third game and be fairly safe. Note that this is a new problem. It is not the same thing as cheating by playing more than 4 of a card, because that can be caught by a standaed deck check. You might say that you just check if they sb anything in, but quite many people -as I am sure you know, since you seemingly have played in tournaments - hides the number they sb by shuffling in their full sb and then removing cards. Therefore, yes, you can bambozle people with this...

(Just in case someone missunderstand me, I am only playing online, so I really really cant cheat with this - I am trying to see what kind of problems this card can cause and no, it is just this card with that issue really it is not the mechanic)

Do you mean checks are only done in the first game of a match, or the first match? Because checks are done at the beginning of the match and that's the only time it matters. They are done randomly for every match throughout the tournament. You can't "forget to unsideboard" and get away with it if you get chosen for a deck check.

I can tell you play online, because you talk like you haven't been to a lot of paper tournaments.

Cheating deck construction rules are very rare. Most cheating is gameplay based.

I can guarantee you that any issues with companions are overblown. I'm not saying someone somewhere won't try. But let's be honest, none of the companions are very competitive and are unlikely to see much tournament play. They're a gimmick for arena players to play with and that's it.

Edit: second copy in hand is risky if you're aiming to cheat. Your forgetting about discard and Thoughtseize effects. Also, judges roam and observe.

Btw, the math doesn't even add up.

Assuming hitting all land drops and playing on curve. You waste a turn playing Titan's on turn 4 (you now have 3 cards in your hand on the end step, if you're on the draw)

Then you play Konrad for BB on turn 5. Leaving you with 3 mana and 2 cards in hand to somehow mill and exile 10 creatures to win.

It was already said you can't mutate humans.

But also there are already lots of easy ways to self mill and empty your graveyard before Titan's Nest.

Self mill has more reliable and very quick decks available already, Usually winning with Thassa's Oracle and Self-Mill Jace.

I have doubt about this deck. The red flags for me are the words "magical Christmas land" and "turn 5".

It's actually the opposite of resilient, for the same reasons other self mill decks are. A single counter spell or a reasonable aggro deck are all this needs to collapse.

EDIT: I played FNM standard in paper and mythic in Arena. I'm very much aware that the next few months are going to include some brutal decks, the bar is going to be set high. I've got more hope for Song of Creation breaking things than Titan's Nest.
