Geez that etching is so bad. That whole treatment needs to go away.
On the bright side there will be inexpensive versions for people.
But in all seriousness yeah it looks like a damaged card with that treatment. I seriously think they either just wanted to be lazy or cheap since doing the etched foil treatment to highlight specific details would look nice but require actual effort for both WOTC and the printing company.
But in all seriousness, I wish they wouldn't do the dump at the end. There's no shortage of people with little channels who would love to have a junk common spoiler card because it actually helps them, it means a lot more than for bigger channels and certainly more than to Wizards
Agreed, because now we sit around for about two weeks and wait for the physical release.
On another subject regarding this set, how many of these new cards will become future staples?
So far, the pilot creatures due to their mechanic will make them great for vehicle decks. I also think the Secluded Courtyard will be something for a lot of multi-color tribal decks.
I generally like the set but it feels like it has a lot of themes and don't explore them enough.
Ninjas are cool and they did an awesome thing adding G, but they are too few. Why there are not UG ninjas for example?
Samurai sadly don't synergize with old samurai.
Things like enchantress cards feel really scattered. A dedicatted tricolor legend would have helped.
This is one of the demerits of discarding the block system. Sure when it's a dud set it's easier to sweep under the rug and move on to the next idea, but when it's a great set it ends up feeling way too short.
Instead of those "From the Vault" and "Secret Lair" stuff I wish they spent that time and energy making mini blocks that just focused on relevant reprints and new cards that are made with only constructed play in mind.
Big blocks for keeping the game new and interesting, small blocks for keeping the game healthy.
On one hand we might get more cards with art styles similar to the showcase cards for Kamigawa which have really made this set my new favorite, on the other it feels like WOTC will jump into bed with just about any other IP these days.
I'm not a huge fan of the card, but I do like that showcase art.
Certainly, I honestly plan to collect the showcase cards for this set purely because of the art. Kinda wish WOTC would loosen up on using mainly the hyper realistic style and allow for more stylized art.

Power is healthy but not over the top. Key themes are still there. And tribes that needed love got it.
And by far this set is my favorite in terms of showcase art. Just about everyone of them blows their normal art counterpart out of the water.
