The End of an Era

I miss the Newts that were used as Sleepers in the OG Phyrexian invasion. They weren't completed so there was no way to tell if they were a sleeper or not, with these newer versions all you have to do is look for the lines or golden irises.

This all feels similar to when they tried to push humanoid slivers on us.

Welp, looks like Mr. Ed got completed.

Also I am hoping to see phyrexian tribal.

The difference here is that I can block Mistcutter Hydra all day with non-blue ground guys. Literally just make 8 0/1 plants with Avenger of Zendikar and I've gotten it taken care of for that many turns. The issue is the flying makes it harder to block, especially if they dump all of their mana into it. This is likely Mythic for Limited reasons but I imagine this is idealized as a RDW finisher.

With Mistcutter the goal is to get infinite mana and pop it out by turn three, or four at the latest, not saying you wouldn't be able to get your avenger out in roughly the same amount of time if you went full ramp but if your opponent uses a rancor on their 5000+/5000+ then it really is a mute point. This red version of it would function in the same way except it would not need a rancor but could be countered.

Comparing them they are roughly the same power level and I will probably add the red hydra to my modern deck, I just think it is silly that this is a mythic.

Flying is a big game, and generally makes this better than mistcutter. It's tough to cost in this modern era of extreme creature p/t power creep, but if it had base 1/1 it would always be the most efficient possible creature at each point in the curve and that was probably too much for wotc. Like they didn't want it to push out all red 2-3 drops, basically. I don't even know if it necessarily would, but it feels like it could. And it's a card they WANT to be cast for a big X, because a 2/2 version of this just doesn't really make sense. They'd rather you cast if for something big to make a big monster and when it's inefficient as a little guy, that's more likely.

Nah it's a ***** card and a boring vanilla. Give it at least firebreathing, or even better a different version of firebreathing which also gives a +1/+1 counter.

Considering the infinite mana combo I use Mistcutter hydra with, yeah this is a very subpar mythic. It doesn't even need the firebreathing, just give it something like protection from black, the chance for the flavor was right there with Sheoldred putting her two cents on it. As it stands the deck I would use this thing in wouldn't want it because it requires mixing in red, complicating the mana pool, and with no real protection from being countered or bounced it's not as resilient was its green counter part.

Not mythic worthy, only reason I see it being rare is the flying or haste

After Gate and Double Masters I'm more than a little burned out.

All I would like to see is phyrexian tribal start to flesh out.

I really wish Uril had a new art. Really hate the current one.

They should have done two runs of these master sets, one that is limited with all new fancy art, and then one that was unlimited but used the older art.

I'll make it real easy for you:

They'll fluctuate, stabilize, and/or tank hard.

For a more serious response, you only have to look at the cards in Double Masters I. Popular cards declined somewhat but stabilized (Mana Crypt). Higher-valued cards that don't see much play dropped. Same with obscure cards that maintained value due to the nature of being scarce. The originals may see a decline, but depending on how they're viewed/played across formats, they'll stabilize and/or even rise.

Certainly the safe bet to take and any other year I would agree. The issue is though is that the economy is destabilizing due to the past two years and everyone is trying to make bank in hopes to maintain profits, case and point how WOTC is increasing the price of sealed product.

I just do not see the reason why this needs to be a limited set nor a $16 per pack set besides the desire to see how far they can take things.

All and all it is not healthy for the game nor the player base.

I never knew a human arm could bend that way. It looks quite painful. Confused

Technically it can but it is wicked uncomfortable for the ulna and radius bones so you would not be smirking so smugly, more of a "wow that was close and now my arm is going to be sore for hours," kind of expression.

Glasses houses and what not, the artist was most likely trying for a unique angle of perspective and wasn't about to pull it off.

Who cares about the hideaway effect? Whenever you attack with one or more creatures create that many 1/1 citizen tokens? Spit out as many tokens as you can, cast Rabble Rousing on turn 5, then Anointed Procession on turn 6 and profit.

Chatterfang, Squirrel General and this will be a fun time.

Celebrity Fencer and no keywords, huh?

Guess that's what you get for being common, heh.

    I am conflicted.

On one side this comes across as blatantly greedy and out of touch in some blind attempt to hunt whales.

On the other it keeps the marketing department busy and hopefully away from the main product lines.

Wonder if he is still the "good" guy (or as close as a Phyrexian can get) or if he works with the other praetors now.

Even in the past Phyrexians could experience very human emotions such as love and benevolence, its just extremely rare. Granted it has yet to play out well for any of them, they were either killed by other Phyrexians or non-infected as easy kills.

If they are keeping with the mobster themes then this could mean the Urabrask has pulled an "escape from Alcatraz" and fled from New Phyrexia.
