I love how people are ignoring the MASSIVE amount of flicker present in white. "He only does his thing once!" Not in the decks that I'D build with him. *evil grin intensifies*

But would flickering him just to produce blood tokens be worth it versus other three drops with similar hit the battle field effects?

Feels like a Brother's war card got an early release.

Words can't describe how I hate so much all this "triggers only once each turn" nerf on effects that really dont need to be nerfed. O tempora, o mores.

If this card triggered with every weenie drop it would be insane card advantage for a cheap not bad stated flying body. Do you really think Wotc play design just doesn't consider the drawback of once per turn when balancing cards? Could it be stronger? Maybe, but it sure feels like people just really hate once per turn effects and just want to automatically call the cards with them bad.

Agreed, this is no way a bad card. Quite frankly I think this is better for the game's health as it gives a fun effect but isn't overpowered to the point that it can instantly win a game for you and end up a $20-50 card in a year's time.

Seriously, a simple fix would have been to give the card "Sacrific a blood token: Ordric gets one of the above abilities until end of turn."

It makes him viable, ties him into the blood token theme better, and helps give weight to the lore that he is a new vampire and needs blood to perform at his best.

Also children apparently don't turn into werewolf pups, but grown up werewolves. Awkward.

Yeaaah, that is more than a little weird.

On another note if you look at the werewolf art you can kind of tell that the red rags were added in at a later date.

What might have happened is that this artist and the one that did Kessig Wolfrider were given the similar art requests since the art for both humans is so similar in design. Chances are the werewolf was not originally meant to be paired with the little girl.

not sure this is necessary in a wolf deck we have already two other ramper, piper and prowler

no, it's not, this is just fixing for limited. and a good one at that.

Might find a home in Werewolf Commander.

Could have been a 1/2 or even a 2/2 and it still probably wouldn't made it more playable.

This is a toy for bogles style decks, its cheep and for just playing your deck as you should you create 1/1 flying chump blockers to play defense while your enchanted creature continues to rearrange faces.

Yeah this is a dud. The mana price, the power/toughness, and the once per turn all make it far too weak to be an uncommon. Improving just one of these such as making it a 2G drop, improving the power and toughness, or removing the once per turn limit would have made this something to consider.

I mean it's ok, but part of me would rather play Fading Hope over this.

    'buster

Agreed, what would have made this a more interesting card would have been to make the Cleave cost U and put the "draw a card" effect in the brackets.

As it is, it's a junk uncommon at this point with Werewolf tribal just not that strong to warrant this just in case

This is probably my ignorance... but is haste often in green's part of the pie?

Not really, Haste is far more common in white and red.

I think the reason for the choice of 0 as an option might have to do with the new dragon Manaform Hellkite as it triggers it's ability but doesn't kill any of your creatures in case it is the only one you have out.

This seems awful to me. Like you've got to be so deep on enchantments to make this work, and there's not going to be the critical mass in Standard. In older formats why would I not just use Sigil of the Empty Throne over this?

I think this is meant for commander. It doesn't compete with Sigil of the Empty Throne for the same turn drop and gives a similar enough effect to help give a commander deck more consistency.

**** partner. If you want to print this cash grab ***** at least don't pollute commander with that

Unfortunately WOTC is very butt hurt over the fact that they do not have final say over format. Hence they keep making cards specifically to mess with it's rules.

And honestly these new cards really are just a middle finger to the player base. They say these will have normal printed versions, but here's the thing. Those prints will be on the list which is about 300 cards that you might get one of for every 4 packs and of those 300 cards there is a heavy amount of cheap chaff cards. They are just making a new kinda mythic that is even harder to get.

Ok so what are some silver linings to this silver screen themed set?

The main one I can think of is that whatever does get printed will go down in price. Either just all around cheaper or a cheaper version will be put into the secondary market. Cheaper cards will make the game more accessible.

Plus the "alternative art style" will make for some interesting customization choices.

This subpar redundant grayscale product should be boycotted completely. Honestly, just leave it on store shelves for the next two decades and send an important message, because obviously, Wizards just wants to save on printing costs by reducing their consumption of color toner, and if these packs aren't cheaper to buy than their colored counterparts (regardless of the print run which we won't know anyway), they're essentially profiting even more than usual (excessively by any metric) at the consumer's expense. This is insulting, unacceptable, and functionality notwithstanding, at best, these cards art artificial collectibles, perhaps even more gimmicky and unattractive to me as full-text basic lands which so far is the frontrunner of terrible marketing ideas.

They should've just reprinted Dark Ascension, given the planeswalkers alternate art, and called the product Spark Ascension instead

Is this a thing we're doing as a community now? Wild conspiracy theories with no real basis in reality to back them up? Everything is some grand secret effort to kill paper magic and cut costs?

Personally, i absolutely love the black and white treatments. Ive hated everything else so far, but this one looks great on physical cards.

Ill take this over any number of *****ty styles theyve pushed out the past year.

If we are going to bring up cost and value, for the consumer this is a huge pro. This news pretty much means that in one way or another most of the cards from Midnight Hunt, Crimson Vow, and even older Innistrad sets are going to drop in price as the market is flooded with prints in multiple styles. In the end both the players wanting to build a deck on a budget and those willing to pay a premium to pimp out their deck are going to get what they want.

Honestly the choice to print cards in multiple styles, creating cheaper alternatives, has been one of the best decisions WOTC has made in recent years.
