Thanks. As the creatures return to play one by one when Portcullis is destroyed, players have the opportunity to play instants during the process, correct? So if one of the creatures returning to play was False Prophet (owned by me), could I have my opponent's creatures return to play first, then False Prophet, then destroy False Prophet with an instant like Go For The Throat, then have False Prophet's triggered ability destroy all the creatures on the battlefield, and then have my remaining creatures exiled under Portcullis return to the battlefield?

OK, well, I guess I was misled by a Reddit thread I was looking at which stated the creatures returned from exile simultaneously. So, if they enter one at a time, if one of the creatures was Crater Hellion for example, and I put his triggered ability on the stack last (i.e. his triggered ability would resolve first), none of the other creatures returning from exile would take 4 points of damage because they are entering the battlefield AFTER Crater Hellion? The Reddit thread I was looking at mentioned something about creatures "seeing each other" which confused me I guess.

OK, I think I see what caused my confusion. What I was thinking/asking was when Portcullis is destroyed and the creatures exiled by it return to play, whether they came into play simultaneously or whether they enter the battlefield one after another in succession in the order chosen by the controller of the Portcullis. And I believe what happens, which is what you were saying indirectly (or directly and I missed it) is that the creatures return simultaneously but if any of the creatures have ETB abilities (e.g. Nekrataal) the controller of the Portcullis can choose how those ETB abilities are placed on the stack. Sound right? And yes, assuming the Portcullis was controlled by the same person the entire time it was on the battlefield.

Note that each ability that triggers this way refers to only one card exiled due to Portcullis.
I'm not quite clear as to what you mean by that. But, for example, if two creatures are exiled under Portcullis when it is destroyed, one of which is Nekrataal owned by me, and the other is a creature owned by my opponent (non-black, non-artifact), I can have my opponent's creature return first, then Nekrataal, thereby sending my opponent's creature to the graveyard?

Do creatures that were exiled by Portcullis return to play simultaneously when Portcullis is destroyed or does the owner of Portcullis decide the order by which they return to play?

If I have Equilibrium in play and then cast Man-o'-War can I return TWO of my opponent's creatures to his/her hand by paying 1 mana?

If I attempt to cast Treachery on one of my opponent's creatures and he/she sacs the creature or otherwise removes it, Treachery never enters the battlefield and I am not able to untap any lands, is that correct?

Do I announce the target creature when I cast Duplicant? And if so, can my opponent sac the creature I target before Duplicant comes into play thereby making Duplicant simply a 2/4 creature?

Yes. We are looking for the colored mana symbols here. If there are none present, like on Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth, then it is not colored even if it creates or interacts with something of color.
I assume the same would be true for a card like Nim Deathmantle which references "black" but does not contain the black mana symbol so it would be permitted, correct?

This is a variation of the general question as to whether a target is required in different situations but as that is a broader question with a longer answer, I'll ask about this particular situation... If Harmonic Sliver comes into play and there are no enchantments or artifacts in play (on either side), Harmonic Sliver still stays in play, correct?

If I have Heart Sliver in play, for example and then cast another Sliver, if my opponent responds by killing Heart Sliver, does the newly played Sliver lose haste (i.e. does it have summoning sickness)?

With regard to Tamiyo, Field Researcher's first loyalty ability, if one of the creatures I've selected deals damage both as an attacker (on my turn) and as a blocker (on my opponent's turn), do I draw a card each time? And if one of the creatures I've selected has double strike, do I draw two cards each time it attacks or blocks?

Since Deathrite Shaman can be cast by using either green mana or black mana, it both a green card and a black card and would generate one green and one black mana for the purpose of Bloom Tender, correct?

  • posted a message on Exiling Spore Frog
If I had Grand Abolisher in play on my side, that WOULD prevent my opponent from activating Spore Frog's ability on my turn, correct? And playing Disallow in response to the Spore Frog activating its ability would NOT work because the sacrifice is part of the cost, correct?

  • posted a message on Exiling Spore Frog
Since sacrificing is part of the cost of Spore Frog's ability, without other "helper" cards such as Grand Abolisher or Rest In Peace on the battlefield, there's no easy way to exile Spore Frog with something like Swords to Plowshares or Path to Exile (unless the card has Split Second) regardless of whether you attempt to exile Spore Frog before or after it activates its ability, correct?
