I like Waterfall Grove, and even though it’s similar it is not quite the same as River of tears, since the ability of the grove can be triggered by fetchlands and other effects that put lands onto the battlefield without the player “playing” a land which is what the river looks for. It’s a good card, but I do wonder if the replacement effect triggered by the landfall ability plays a little weird with the rules since it is entirely separate from the tap ability (a part of me thinks there must be a reason why river of tears’s replacement effect is written as being a part of it’s tap ability rather than being a separate replacement effect). I’m no rules expert, though.

This could have easily been downshifted to an uncommon.

I disagree. In draft it’s unquestionably rare level. And while the card may not be constructed viable, in EDH, it’s solid. It’s over $10 for a reason.

Exactly, I remember winning one game off of this by enchanting an animated inkmoth nexus for a single attack.

Conclave’s Might is interesting and powerful, but at the same time it’s power is balanced by the fact that 5 untapped creatures are needed to take full advantage of it. It’s the same CMC as Venerated Loxodon and trades a 4/4 body for instant speed, two more counters and possibly can double as a combat trick removal spell. It’s hard to judge how much power instant speed has here, since it allows players to leave creatures untapped to defend and then pump after blocking is declared, and as a result doesn’t have the trade off the Loxodon does where players need to forgo an two attack steps (theirs and their opponent’s) for the pump. On the other hand it’s totally useless to an empty board, while the Loxodon is always going to give you a 4/4. It’s interesting, but I think it’s good power level wise.

    Burglarize B

Search another player’s library for a card, you may exile it or put that card into their graveyard. Then that player shuffles their library.

(My innitial ideas was an entomb that can grab something out of your teammate’s library in two-headed giant games or your opponent’s library in normal games which is why it says “another player”)

Right, AB cards are in high demand because of nostalgia and the fact that all other printings of many of the cards in AB were in white boarder. However, the price disparity between many of the cards, at the same or lower rarity, is because of 93/94. If you consider cards that are iconic, like Lord of the Pit, Nightmare, Force of Nature, and Demonic Hordes, you will see that their pricing is around $200-$300. Just like my example of Lord of Atlantis from above, these cards are almost nonexistent in 93/94, yet cards like Jayemdae Tome and Disrupting Scepter are worth $400+. Why is this? They are all Alpha/Beta rares and are basically terrible cards by today's standards. Yet Scepter and Tome are worth considerably more; even double in some cases. The reason why Scepter and Tome are worth more, is because of 93/94 playability. Both cards are played in one of the top decks in the format, called "The Deck". http://www.eternalcentral.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/JonHammackECOSEW17Deck.jpg

Thanks for pointing this out. When I was a kid, I remember saving up $60 to purchase a single pack of legends, the last pack the store had. This was a few years after legends came out, which is why is was so expensive even then. The rare I opened was recall. I was disappointed at the time, since it was one of the less valuable rares because it was reprinted in chronicles. Still I never got rid of it. Now Becasue of this 93/94 format that your post just made me aware of, I looked it up and it’s a card that’s around $100. Still not the best legends rare to have opened, but hey, it’s nice to know I made my childhood $60 back.

I think Chord of Savagery is good, but perhaps a little too powerful. The combination of being unable to interact with it to remove it, giving creatures flash and also making them indestructible during combat makes the card really powerful. I’d suggest maybe only granting indestructible to attacking creatures, since Gruul doesn’t really care about defense. That way flashing in creatures to make surprise blocks will result in more trades rather than total blowouts. Then again the card may be perfectly fine at it is, since I get the feeling it’s a card that needs play testing to gage it’s actual power level.

    Creature - Naga Advisor
    Deathtouch
All +1/+1 counters give creatures -1/-1 instead for as long as this card is on the battlefield.

Maybe selfless Spirit should be in here somewhere. While return to the ranks is a good post board wipe plan, it still is blanked by Anger of the Gods, the spirit is a good answer to anger that can be tutored out at instant speed with Chord of calling.

I think it is more about modal spells, like commands, charms, or:

    etc
As with those cards you can have main board answears to very specific strategies that can either be a answear to a total diferent strategy but being really meh at it.

I agree, I think it means that more modal spells will be included in future sets. It also might mean we’ll see the return of the Entwine mechanic from the original Mirrodin block (which are basically modal spells with a kicker-like cost that activates both modes).

  • posted a message on Ruhan of the Fomori: Aggro/Control
I’m not sure if it’s ever been mentioned in this thread, but I’m building a Ruhan deck right now and I’ve been eyeing putting in a copy Earnest Fellowship. Obviously it’s a your milage may vary kind of card and has a chance of turning off your removal as well as opponent’s removal, but it makes Ruhan unblockable and untargetable by a vast swath of cards. Obviously a no-go if you’re relying on auras, Thassa’s ability or godsend but I feel it’s worth considering since it gives Ruhan protection from three colors and can give all color protection in conjunction with sword of feast and famine.

Anyone have experience playing with it?

I’m sorry to burst your bubble, but Ramos, Dragon Engine is not a modern legal card. Wizard of the Coasts lists it as being legal in Legacy, Vintage, and commander. It has never been printed in a standard legal set, so it is not a part of the modern card pool. Cards printed in standard legal sets from 8th edition to the present are modern legal (barring the cards that have specifically put on the banned list for modern).

The Lost Order, but it could be broken with Painter’s Servant, then again it wouldn’t be the first card broken by the servant and it’s casting cost is restrictive enough that I don’t think land destruction decks would want to use this. So I think it’s a good card as it is.

    Leyline of Treaties 2WU
    Enchantment
If Leyline of Treaties is in your opening hand, you may start the game with it on the battlefield.

When Leyline of Treaties enters the battlefield or if the game starts with Leyline of Treaties on the battlefield each player names a card other than a basic land. Named cards cannot be cast and if a named card would enter the battlefield, exile it instead.

At any time you may reveal a named card from your hand, if you do put it onto the bottom of your library and draw a card.

(The last ability only benefiting the card’s controller is intentional)

I was actually wondering the other day if the 3rd set of the current Ravnica storyline, the one in which the current Bolas storyline will conclude, will do a lot more playing around with colors. I don’t mean I think it will be a 100% multicolor set, but perhaps it will be a tri-color set as certain guilds team up to either fight for or against Bolas.

Here’s a way to think about this, your changeling wouldn’t get the +0/+1 buff from the drifter much in the same way mothdust changeling wouldn’t get the +1/+1 boost from bad moon, because Mothdust changeling is blue, not black.
