MTG Salvation

So I was asked by my boyfriend to make him a deck for christmas that has a very obscure commander that would raise the question of "Why is that your commander" he talked to me about Mihiro however he already knows about that one and so i don't want to build it instead however i want to build him Phelddagrif however i need help figuring out win conditions that dont include commander damage. Our meta doesn't play with commander damage. I read about building him with mill but im not sure if mill is common for group hug bant. I need to build something very obscure with a surprising win condition. Also if anyone has anyother suggestion of obscure commander with obscure win cons ill be open to it.
