Apr 16, 2019I don't like Frank Karsten's build but his understanding of the card is sound. The game plan with Druid would be to Ramp into 4 mana spells/enchantments, which we would need to not have that many 3 drops in the deck.Posted in: Deck Creation (Standard)
Paradise Druid combined with vigilance enchantments turns it into an effective racer. Sentinel's Mark does make sense here.
ideally we want to slam an enchantment while druid is untapped especially one with vigilance though we still have to be careful since said enchantments can get blown up.
Sentinel's Mark is dirt cheap
and on Serra's wings could definitely work if the whole gameplan is to slam this paradise druid/vine mare.
I still don't think the deck would be better than UR, but Bant/Naya could be a possibility since that opens the door to other creatures that could make the deck work.
But overall for OP, I would dump that bant budget build and move to two color only. Would also drop Prodigious Growth / Knightly Valor / Dub / Danitha, Capashen Paragon
Apr 15, 2019Red is tough matchup...Posted in: Magic General
no shame in piloting a net deck just to understand how it works. Can't get better at deckbuilding if you bias yourself to homebrew mentality.
I play monoG stomp and grixis drakes in BO1, it ain't easy against red, especially big red, but have to re-evaluate, get better, and build in better interaction against that deck.
Apr 14, 2019Posted in: The Rumor MillQuote from The Fluff »Countering and discarding are one of the few ways to get rid of god eternals. What format are you going to use him? Few decks in modern have counterspells that counter creatures.. might be different in your lgs, but over here the counterspell I often see is only stubborn denial that does not hit Rhonas.
And just one more about the settle thing. The opponent needs to have the settle and another removal for Rhonas. Because he does not have haste.. the ones who will get settled are the creatures that he pump. Then next turn he attacks.. opponent needs to have another removal.
What's to stop you from playing gruul and having Rhythm of the wild Which prevents counters and turns Rhonas into a haste creature or a 6/6. Though I do wonder if this is modern playable..

Mar 31, 2019If your on Bo1 I would get off the ramp deck plan. Imo, ramp decks have issues once they hit the higher tiers, and you will also find out that other ramp decks just use circuitous route and slam bigger higher cost threats which make your high cost threats irrelevant.Posted in: Deck Creation (Standard)
The deck TBuzzsaw posted is very solid for bo3 and puts down a lot of troublesome decks in the format.
Mar 31, 2019hmmm, apparently Clear the mind is more effective than I realized...Posted in: Deck Creation (Standard)
I'm not gonna pursue the jeskai version, even though there is shalai, lyra, hero, teferi, unbreakable formation, clarion, absorb, tajic, and even curators ward, I feel like the deck overall isn't effective in BO1, maybe in BO3 because there is more leverage due to sideboard.
I'm still not sure about 24 lands, if we run into a deck that plays any cards that force us to shuffle cards back into the library then we end up failing to draw in the late game which gets us killed against ramp decks and control. I also get those may be bad matchups because of diversity in BO1, but then again.
