Good way to get Goyf online, it might see play in monkey grow.

Delver is once more 25% of the format, despite multiple bans over the years. It is time to admit that either all free spells need to be banned permanently, or mr. Bug does.

There aren't any T1 mono color decks in Modern, nor should there be. That would require thst color being so good dumping the others is desirable.

Blue involves some of the best creatures in modern already, including snappy, geist of st traft, and the entire t1 spirits deck. Blue has plenty of on color aggro, it doesn't need help.

I think U Tarmogoyf leaves no room for other colors. U isn't the beater color.

Something like R "Exile target card from a graveyard or exile target artifact" would help. Making an option that unifies sideboards a bit.

Yes it is. Aluren is essentially The Rock with better Splinter Twin as a finisher. BG is usually better then UR in modern, and Splinter Twin was already deemed too good for modern.

I don't think free spells and counters are the problem, it is pushed threats. Delver decks play 1 mana 5/5s on turn 2, 3/2 flyers turn 1, creatures that counter spells and draw cards and close out games.

Take Nimble Mongoose, which as a 3/2 with shroud for 1 mana is underpowered in the pauper format, along with mongrel and werebear and arrogant worm. If threats weren't so pushed and easily splashable blue would be a control deck and not tempo.win

Blue zombies has been a thing for a while so it seems reasonable pie wise. The color pie is more what you might call guidelines anyway.

Sad to think that threats are so strong that this is a bad card. 5 mana for a single 4/4?? 7 mana for 2? Get out of here and bring me my barely playable Entreat the Angels.

For a long time it was restricted in vintage and banned in legacy. When standstill was a dominant deck it provided more long term damage, and in really old days draw sevens were cheap.

One of my favorite cards of all time. It is only okay now but in the days of draw-go it was 6 damage for 1 mana guaranteed.

I still run it in Legacy Burn, usually deals 4 damage out as an opener which is still better then lava spike style cards.

Not only would counterspell not be broken, it wouldn't even be good. The movement to hyper aggro and tribal decks means its blank except against already bad midrange decks and control decks, who are also the only decks that would want it.

Does nothing against aether vial and Cavern of Souls. It is bad against affinity, dredge, burn, humans, spirits, merfolk, hollow one and arclight. It doesn't actually help any control weaknesses, it just makes U slightly more effective against rock decks.

I think the relevant categories are:

    Aggro: little to no disruption.
    Hollow One, Dredge, arclight.

tempo:disruption lasts just long enough to win. Splinter Twin, Merfolk, Delver, Death's Shadow

midrange: Disruption and aggressive elements are split, tries to grind opponents out.
    BGx, Jeskai Control

Control; Almost all disruption, tries to achieve a locked game position where the opponent can no longer rrasonably achieve victory and then kills opponent.
    UW Control, Lantern Control

All of the good tribal decks in modern are tempo decks IMO. They usually win exactly one turn before they would run out of resources and fall apart. Midrange suffers from being one turn too slow for the current meta, either lacking a sufficient disruption to upset the aggro and tempo decks or a threat to race them.

A Battle of Wits deck when I was playing a green stompy deck.

Something like 5C ramp/control with Hivemind could work.

Play classic green land ramp like explore, sakura, search for tomorrow, etc. Throw a couple board wipes and the like in, the goal is to land Hivemind and then cast a pact or more cheaply Final Fortune. You get to stack its trigger so each opponent gets a turn and then loses at the end of it, no paying their way out.

Pump spells probably. It could actually be pretty fun in bogles for instance, but also just sticking infect style pump spells in a deck and making a giant thing.

Another major difference between Legacy and Modern is that Legacy is less susceptible to combo decks. The best deck is almost always a FoW deck because combo in legacy is so sleek, and combo can be allowed to be so powerful because FoW decks keep it from taking over.

Right now the best deck is Grixis Control, then Death's Shadow and Sneak and Show. Three totally different decks that all share Force.
