Its better than sets that feature Planes that are just straight lifting of Mythology rather than something more unique like Dominaria imo.

While yes, more original ideas are better than "this idea, but with my spin on it", I will say that using other IP is nowhere near better than using mythology.

    Anything's better than Theros tbh.

This entire 40K product competes with the DND sets for title of most repulsive product in MTG for me

How is Plague Drone neither an Insect nor a Drone?

The mount is the insect drone, the rider is a Plague Bearer.

Exactly - the card's name refers to the drone mount, not the demonic rider.

That comes from Warhammer itself. Despite how it looks like an insect, its actually a Daemon. Rot Flies are Daemons of Nurgle and can have either Daemons riding them (Plague Drones) or Mortals riding them (Pusgoyle Blightlords)

Commander Legends is DnD themed? So much for getting more MTG lore characters into card form.

Keeping Standard legal sets as MTG-lore only sets is a good thing. Dipping into other settings is fine but the core of the game *must* be MTG.

    Werewolf set.

    No werewolf previews.

No werewolf commander deck. Instead it's zombies and humans.

Exactly. As good as that removal spell and new surveil card is, I don’t give a ***** about anything from Midnight Hunt until I see some werewolves. And it’s incredibly silly to hold back on that in any way.

The black and white full art lands are pretty cool tho

Exactly. This was more a Crimson Vow stream.

Kamigawa Neon Dynasty? Well, going cyberpunk would save that cringey plane.

    Excited for Dominaria United!

Super Smash Bros. was literally made from the start to be a crossover though.

MTG was literally designed off of D&D campaigns and has heavy D&D influence especially in early sets, particularly Legends. Do you not think that perhaps MTG was meant to be a crossover-enabler for fantasy-esque settings?

If it was a crossover enabler why haven't we had a single crossover set/product since legends? 'Inspired by' is very very different to direct-lifting a character without a name or design change.

Could we at least first get Commander Legends turned into a proper series so that more MTG Characters can get into the game? I know we still have the normal Commander decks but its not really bringing alot alone.

Holy hell, literally none of your arguments make any sort of sense, I'm not even sure where to begin. You really, really just want people to believe this is a bad thing for some reason and can't find a way to back it up. I very much don't understand the level of hate y'all have for this thing that objectively does no harm to you in any way. To live in a world so serene where a company daring to pander to anyone other than you for a millisecond is enough to raise your hackles this much... I can't imagine ever having that level of privilege.

By all means have at it, the majority of folks will be over here enjoying cool new cards just like the majority of folks were actually quite happy with previous crossovers if you look at sales data instead of angry Facebook posts during a time when everyone had nothing better to do.

All because people may prefer not to play against decks using these cards?

Everybody just needs to let it go and move on, it’s over, mtg is finally joining the crossover trend. If you can adapt keep playing if you can't quit.

The fact is you see most of the post online being negative but your gonna hate this but no matter where you go it's always minor no matter what website you go. Why do you think TWD secret lair is the best selling one in the first place, and why Some of the complaints barely get heard till around a year later.

Why are you gatekeeping people's opinions?

Here's hoping Sol Ring gets printed in the LoTR set as the One Ring. That flavour text would be very suitable.

That actually would be pretty good.

    You like Super Smash Brothers?

I'm asking because that's pretty much the granddaddy of crossover IPs in one platform. If you say you like SSB then you can essentially say dick all about MTG and its forthcoming developmental plans.

An honest question for players who object to this based on its chance to ruin one's immersion in the game's story: How does it make you feel when someone plays an altered card that touches on another IP? Is Dr. Doom on a Force of Will similarly jarring? Is the rarity of this enough to make it negligible as a concern?

This is something that I personally massively hate. Its a serious disconnect. Luckily its considerably more rare to encounter.

Wow, people are so hurt by this, basically the equivalent of 10 years old arguing over which is the better console. You remind me of the bullies which used to mock other kids because of their hobbies.

And it is going to be even more shocking when this products have a large success and you see new players coming with their UB cards.

When all is said and done this products will bring new players, hope they are engaged and get more in to magic, I am going to welcomed them because sharing a hobby is nice, looking forward to teach them about the 25 years of magic history.

I agree its going to bring in new players and I agree its going to be a success. But will MTG history still be relevant or will it be overwhelmed by Marvel and other Comic Book lores? Will new players be learning and building decks around the stories of the Weatherlight, of Urza...the Ravnica Guilds and so on or will it be a case of big-name pop culture icons that have nothing to do with MTG getting their stories told? Time will tell.

Or maybe is just internet era drama where we have to get all up in arms over everything. Either way I really think this doesn't take away anything from the actual game, the immersion argument seems weird given than the magic universe is already all over the place, from tolkien influence in Dominaria, to steampunk in Kaladesh, to lovecraft in zendikar eldrazi's and then all the other planes that borrow from pop culture.

Referencing or basing off of real-life Mythology or Culture is a very common aspect of Fantasy since its inception. To take Dominaria...MTG took Tolkien and D&D asthetics and ideas and used them to build a unique, extremely lore-rich setting with some of the best fantasy stories of its time. While unconfirmed, its looking like the Universes Beyond products are just going to get dumped into the game wholesale.

I don't even think artistically they'll get changed to look like they fit the setting more.

In otherwords, your forced to accept it.

    Djau the Jackal:
That makes no sense whatsoever. They are not legal in standard for the same reason that commander legends, the yearly commander decks, Jumpstart, and double masters aren't legal in standard (or modern, or pioneer, et al). By your logic those products are equally contentious.

Not really, those commander and like products come from mtg itself and mtg lore.
