Thought for sure I posted in this already, but I guess I didn't.
Vedalken Shackles is the pick for me. It can absolutely wreck the other side's board. The diamond is nice, but shackles is where the power is inthis pack.
If I sacrifice a creature for an effect, is it sacrificed as part of the cost before the effect goes on the stack? If I sacrifice Angelic Renewal to return it to play, it wouldn't through some weird timing issue somehow cause the cost to not be paid... would it?
Specific example of how I see it. I sacrifice Sakura-Tribe Elder, the land search ability goes on the stack and the Elder goes to the graveyard. I could then respond to that by sacrificing the Angelic Renewal, returning to Elder to play. Is that correct?
Zo-Zu The Punisher. It's agressive, it punishes land drops, and we've got Ravages for synergy. Ended up with Ankh of Mishra a couple drafts ago in agro, and it change my whole view on those two cards.
Angel of Serenity - It's our color. Vampire Lacerator - The better of the two in case the guy beside us just happens to be black agro. Stromkirk Noble - The choice!
Well, it's time for a tentative second color commitment. Vampiric Tutor. Black has a very nice ramp target and some good utility on the board. And if we see something in another color next pick, Vamp could still be splashed where Titan couldn't.
Flickerwisp synergizes well, and we'll be targeting ETB creatures from here on out with Bouncer, Shard, Lark and all that. It should get better the more we stick to this strategy.
I want to leap on that Zo-Zu hard, but after thinking about it, I think Ravages of War is the pick, keep from revealing anything as long as we can and as long as we have picks on the board. It'll be sexy to set up a strong board position and drop Zo-Zu right before a Ravages.
I see what you meant now (in my defense, I was on my phone so didn't have a good view of the quilt).
Still, I wouldn't pick Siege-Gang for an aggro deck, so I'd wait until it's more clear exactly how fast the deck will turn out to be.
I was discussing this quilt with some buddies. Our picks so far haven't exactly screamed 'aggro' to me. Everything has been more than three cmc except our single one-drop. The stuff on the board is more on the fringe of agro, support and such that would help an agro deck, but there aren't the creatures visible right now. That situation I start to default to a more mid-range strategy. But my buddies made some good points about sticking with the agro strategy. No need to change my pick because I'm sure City, Ravages, or something will get the votes, but I see Player Bs choices in a better light now.
