lolno. I meant, how long did it take him to do that particular alter.
Well Morphling, this is the first (and only so far) 'Ron Spencer Altered Foil Judge Yawgmoth's Will'. He had never altered a foil yawg will before, so I think that is part of the reason he charged a little extra, since it's more difficult. The commission price started at $375, but I told him that I would pay him a little extra since it's the first one of its kind and also since I was sending the other cards to get altered. I ended up paying about $450 total.
The commission started nearly a year and a half ago, and he only recently finished it within the past couple months. That includes everything from the yawg will to the goddamns. All in all I am very happy with the card. The Foil looks AMAZING underneath and really makes it pop (which you cant see well from the scan).
I'm super-stoked about the goddamns because I was just expecting him to do some simple sharpie-alterations but he did color. I'm really happy with the decision, even though it took so long. Like I said, I can't complain about the time because, honestly I feel bad for taking time away from his schedule that he should have been spending with his wife.
I didn't pay it all up front either, it was like three or four payments, broken down, so that made it a lot easier.
I think Galspanic said it best though: "one-of-a-kind objects are rare and people that are famous for making objects are even more rare."
Those are pretty insane, especially the Yawg Will. That's quite a long time though, did he tell you it would take that long? Too bad you lost a ton of value on the Damnations and Wraths :S
My one nitpick is that it looks like he rushed the Magic card backs. And whenever Ron Spencer draw cards they look like Yu-Gi-Oh cards.
Would you mind saying how much he charged for these? I'm assuming a ton for the Will.
Yeah... It took forever but, I mean, I wasn't going to rush him. He has his own personal family reasons for it taking so long - and I'm not going to be mad at him for it. Long story short, his wife was going through chemotherapy.
Yeah, I can't be mad at him for taking so long to do them, when his family deserves his undivided attention. I'm just glad he was nice enough to take the time to get them done, even if it took forever.
As for the damns\wraths, I really only paid about $8/ea for them (when I bought them originally), so not too much $ lost. Especially since I should be able to get that much for them should I ever decide to sell them (which I won't).
I agree the magic backs look a little rushed, but then again when you consider that the actual size of those magic cards is less than 5mmX5mm, you have to give him credit for getting the amount of detail that he did.
I paid about $500 for the Will alteration, and then asked him if he would sign the wraths\damns. I ended up trading him 1wrath\1damn for all of the extra sketches on the other 3wrath\3damn, which he offered and I couldnt pass up.
So like... it's been awhile since I posted on the forums....
Kinda dropped out of the scene for the last few months...
Anyways, I finally got my Ron Spencer commissions back, after a year and a half of waiting.
Enjoy!
ps, sorry for the light scan my scanner hasnt been working properly lately.
I used to enjoy this thread and all the artwork posted - whether NSFW or not.
Ever since appelx's incessant ranting, raving, back-seat modding, bickering, and complaining, this thread has really gone downhill. It pretty much sucks checking it anymore for fear of 5+ pages of appelx's complaining and subsequent response from the community.
The mods really need to do something about this guy, ignoring him is not enough for us because everytime he posts a single post there are pages and pages of responses to those posts. I've tried reporting his posts without any success\response.
This thread moved nearly five pages in a single day - that's HUGE, especially considering there were only a few posts that actually had pictures or art.
The fact of the matter is simple - if the image is in a spoiler then his complaining is pointless - JUST IGNORE SPOILERS.
Even better, appelx needs to stop viewing this thread, since it seems to offend him so much!
If a mod could help make that happen it would be even better. As it is, this thread is going to die very quickly if he is allowed to continue posting here, as it seems that he is stepping on a lot of toes.
With that said, the few alters that have been posted over the past several pages are nice, keep up the great work and look forward to seeing MORE ART POSTED.
(WAVES at Califrag-HI!) Califrag I first decided to "alter" a card way back when mtg alpha came out and I was with Richard Garfield when he altered a card. It was some sort of cool and funny alteration. Then people started asking me to alter and other artists and game designers to alter cards at conventions. That was a LONG time ago...15 years? Wow does time fly.
Hi Amy
Glad to see you posting here and btw I definitely agree with what you had to say - I think it's pretty rude to paint over the original artists name if all that is being done is extending the original art. Now if the art is completely new or unique i can understand the name being painted over but.... anyways.. glad to see ya here ;D
Hey thanks starkiller! I am not sure if I want to keep doing these - they are SOOO time consuming!! I just wanted to do one to see how well I would be able to do and to gain an appreciation for the artists.
I did go back and touch up the little things i noticed and I think it looks pretty solid now. I just need to figure out how to get the paint layers to appear 'smoother' since they are really rough right now.
I also messed up and sprayed what I thought was semi-gloss sealant... well it was gloss and now the card *shines*... hrm...
is this image small enough not to be in a spoiler? what are the size requirements to put images in spoilers or not?
i know her left arm looks kinda funny but that's just how the pose is....
plus her chest may be slightly uneven...
plus the left bikini strap looks kinda strange (will fix this later, not at 4:30AM)....
anyways
for my first (and probably last\only) attempt, I like to think it turned out 'OK'
nowhere near the quality as shown on this thread. But just putting this out there
geez i think it looks great for a mockup sketch.. and I'm assuming it's supposed to be a wolf as in "Tundra Wolves" .... in homage to the card Tundra Wolves or play on words with it or whatever... Sooo it's not supposed to look like a bear (i think)... and it doesn't look that cartoony considering it's just a sketch....
Tha Gunslinga has a set of Nm German FOW for $35 each, so i think 60-80 is way too much.
thx I didn't see that he had any posted...
I bought mine at about $40\ea (150 for the set of four) and the only one listed on the auction site was a single one at $75. Thus that's where my valuation came from.

they're all like that. it's because of the 'run' of uncommon nonbasic\basics. all foil pools have the white mana symbol, all languages.
