The End of an Era

We've tested this before on two separate occasions (once upon release and again maybe a year or two ago?) and it was disappointing both times. The abilities always just felt below rate at 3cmc regardless of pairing, and unlike a lot of other cube-able modal cards, you find that in quite a few matchups not a single one out the 4 abilities are particularly useful. Against ramp decks, control decks, midrange decks with 1-drops or tokens laying around, etc none of the abilities almost ever do anything worthwhile. I don't think I've ever seen this get entwined before, so I can't speak on that from experience.

I'll always encourage testing new cards and re-trying old ones, so who knows maybe this will preform differently with the advent of initiative creatures/spells, but that's just been my experience.

Every single counter spell in my cube goes highly and is maindecked. Blue almost never goes completely undrafted.

That's an excellent point, maybe I'm underestimating the Cavern of Souls effect. Blue is the best color, and green is probably our second best, and both end up with higher playrates. Having easy access to this type of effect might be more innately desirable than I'm giving it credit for.

I'm really surprised people like this so much. It can enable certain splashed but only narrowly and only for incredibly specific cards.

This can fix for second color symbols in 2 color decks sometimes (help you cast Jace, the Mind Sculptor in UG or Liliana of the Veil in BG) or splashing with single-symbol off color splash legends (Teferi, Time Raveler in UG or Minsc & Boo, Timeless Heroes in BG). For the latter you'd also want the splashed card to be worth splashing for. I'd imagine you'd want 4 or 5 (one in 10 or 8 cards) cards that fit one of those molds in your deck.

While that's not a ton of cards needed to get fixing value out of this thing, there aren't actually that many card like that readily available to most decks. I can't account for a specific number of possible cards taht fill that niche since it changes contextually based on what decks end up being drafted, but having more than 4 or 5 possible payoffs for the color-fixing to make it more productive than Boreal Druid in all your green decks seems a little unlikely to me? We cut Joraga Treespeaker for being too narrow, so I'm sure we can make space for this and try it and very well might, but I'm not convinced this can consistently fix your mana and enable splashes as well as something like Gilded Goose, which we do play and I'm now surprised to learn many other don't play.

Card is probably fine, but I think it's closer to Boreal Druid (which we've played before and was disappointing) than it is to Gilded Goose.

Huh, I assumed this would be too slow and clunky, but people here seem to be super high on it. I'll give it a spin, hopefully it's as stupid as yall say it is.

I am really curious how often you'll play this and not activate it at all, just casting it for the fog effect.

We've been testing this for a while, and its pretty sold. We just play it as a Mono red card, I don't think anybody's transformed it yet though.

Usually you'll get at least one really good hit, and it's honestly really rare you miss on both rolls. Hitting big on both is pretty absurd, and I'd guess this is probably sticking around for us for while.

Most people don’t run that card as far as I’m aware.

A lot of this has to do with it being an obscure commander card. Sevinne's Reclamation has been quite powerful / popular in my cube, right now it's floating in and out as I test other things.

This fitting into a not so deep Selesnya section rather than an overcrowded white section is a big point in this card's favor.

I'd add that this compares pretty well with Reclamation's front end. Casting Sevinne's Reclamation is almost always equal to or worse than playing whatever you're recurring, meanwhile this is almost always better. Instant speed and 3 life gained may very well be the disparity required to create enough separation between the two cards to play this even if you don't play the other, not even acounting for the instant-speed Nature's Spiral aspect of the card.

I think I really like this. Obviously has tons of combo applications (like Sevinne's Reclamation), but in being an instant should be much better even without the flashback. Also because of the instant speed, this lets proactive Selesnya decks play reactivity to their benefit, all the while paying you back some of the life you likely lost in playing a clunkier card like this. Selesnya already isn't a super deep color combination, but this provides something unique and powerful, and is imo much stronger than it's sorcery speed recursion counterparts.

Should also mention this being an instant being silly with the reanimator enchantments lol

I feel like this is probably the best Jeskai card now?

Looks solid and can definitely run away with games, and while others have said it's worrisome because of the lack of etb that's not necessarily true, you can trigger the prowess on your board after you cast this for some good burst.

My one concern is that having to attack with this to generate value might not always pan out well. It attacking as a 4/5 or 5/6 most of the time is great and well above rate, but there might be times this just gets stonewalled out of combat by a big blocker or an Ophiomancer or something.

Might try this honestly, this looks really good imo

I think this is the best Battle, looks great imo

Invasion of Gobakhan also looks great, but this one is just so pushed damn. Can't wait to try this

Wow, seems a little low impact as a topdeck but this is just so pushed. I'd imagine any red aggro decks would gladly play this, but not sure about midrange decks. On paper I'd still maindeck this since it has all kinds of good synergies, but most of my red midrange decks probably won't get more than 2 or 3 burn spells.

Might be a narrow pass for now, but if your cube has more burn than ours I'd imagine this is solid.

Yea I'm all over this at any size

Yea our issue with it years ago was that it's a great "discard outlet" but didn't have enough broken payoffs to validate it in deckbuilding outside of UB reanimator. Sneak Attack has a few broken payouts, and reanimator a few more than that, but Flash has only ever really had 2 that are broken at all stages of the game, one of which is Worldspine Wurm which is otherwise only good with Sneak Attack strategies. Woodfall Primus is awesome, but even if you play the Wurm that's just two, and you probably want like 4. cards like Ancient Stone Idol/Triplicate Titan/Sundering Titan/Ashen Rider are only conditionally broken at very early turns in the game, meanwhile I'd assume you want your flash combo to scale better into the late game.

Working with Welder strategies opens up a lot of options, but for now I think we're set, but maybe I'm underestimating the Atraxa, Grand Unifier ETB off of Flash

Sword of Fire and Ice is by far the best sword because regardless of other game conditions, it always generates card advantage, usually a 2-for-1. In my experience second best was always Sword of Feast and Famine because although it wasn't always a 2-for-1, it's really good early game and can at least make up for the lack of guaranteed value in it's swingy-ness. We cut Sword of Feast and Famine maybe a year ago though since it was't particularly useful in late game situations and to make space for new cards, but this card can actually net a consistent card or two per hit, and is great early for the ramp or late for the dig. As far as I'm concerned this is definitely the second best sword. Probably going to test this.

Not a fan of non-Liliana of the Veil edicts, but Sudden Edict was close and this is likely much better for cube. Might actually try this out since Baleful Mastery is great and this is very similar.

We've been testing Citizen's Crowbar, and this puts that card to shame. Definitely going to test this, love the synergies this provides while being decent at rate and being a good value enabler for white aggro and midrange decks.
