OK. That makes sense. What about the double wild ricochet example?

Wild Ricochet A is on the stack, then Wild Ricochet B changes its target (to whatever) and copies it...

So when B resolves, it puts a new copy of A on the stack, which lets it copy A again, right?

But I guess this goes nowhere, since it just keeps putting a copy of A on the stack over and over?

If someone casts an instant, say lightning bolt, and then casts fork, targeting their lighting bolt, and I play wild ricochet, can I change the target of their fork to target my wild ricochet instead?

Or suppose I had two wild ricochets, and I target their fork first, then I target my own wild ricochet (A) with my second one (B)... can B make A target B?

What I'm getting at is, can I ever create an infinite loop (or arbitrarily large loop) of copy spells on the stack? Can one copy effect target another, and make it copy the initial one? Or will the Fork, in the example above, just fizzle on resolution since wild ricochet is now gone? I'm obviously confused, but I hope this is clear.

What, exactly, happens when you target a copy spell with another copy spell?

Help pull me from this infinite loop I'm stuck in!

I'm playing commander. I have Vedalken Orrery in play. It's my opponent's turn. (He's playing Niv-Mizzet, the Firemind, though this applies to any general, I would think). He plays his general. It resolves. He then equips Swiftfoot Boots to Niv-Mizzet. In response, I cast Treachery, and target Niv-Mizzet.

    My questions are as follows.

1.) 99% sure that changing control does not constitute changing zones, therefore he cannot opt to have Niv-Mizzet go to his command zone. Yes?
2.) Treachery resolves first, so I gain control of Niv-Mizzet. But then, does his Swiftfoot Boots still end up equipping Niv-Mizzet?
3.) If the answer to 2 is yes, he still controls Swiftfoot Boots, yes? And therefore I cannot target it with spells and abilities? Or does the equip ability somehow fail on resolution because he no longer controls the creature?

    Tangential additional question:

I happen to be playing Brago, King Eternal. Some time later, I have destroyed the Swiftfoot Boots. So... If I were to damage my opponent with Brago, and his ability triggers, and I then exile and return the Treachery, when it returns to play, I assume I can re-target the Niv-Mizzet with the Treachery and get the Untap-5-lands effect, and still control Niv-Mizzet? Also, is there any window in which my opponent controls the Niv-Mizzet such that he could either activate its abilities (if it's untapped), sacrifice it to some sac outlet, etc? Or will it be under my control before he gets priority again? That is, when does he regain control of Niv-Mizzet? When everything returns to play (as part of Brago's ability resolving), does the controlling-a-creature part of Treachery go on the stack? Or? I guess I'm asking about how the timing of auras goes when they're "bounced" like this.

    Thanks!
