Mar 8, 2019So Frank Karsten had made an article talking about how he wanted to make Verity Circle work well. This is what I have started with. I have yet to try the deck and haven't created a sideboard. I wanted to see if anyone else was wondering about such a brew.Posted in: Deck Creation (Standard)
Mar 6, 2019I dropped it, but I feel I was going too hard on the hero aspect. I believe a tempo/midrange deck is best. Maybe something like Applied biomancy could get it to where ti needs to be. The w/r version with heroic reinforcements could be sweet even splashing blue.Posted in: Deck Creation (Standard)
Feb 27, 2019Revel in Riches has been a card I've been wanting to work with for quite some time now. I believe it could be a pretty sly janky deck. I have yet to test it out, but was looking to see if anyone else fancied a look. Suggestions welcome!Posted in: Deck Creation (Standard)
Probably going to cut Hornswoggle from the main for some different early action or maybe a couple Revitalize

The meta is bound to be different, but last year I was surprised to find that my pirates weren't always dying and March could be clunky. This is a new meta, but some Nexus and Mono-U seem like they might not be putting the pirates in the bin. Given Grixis's historic difficulty with enchantments, Reclamation might be a lost cause.
Looking at the spoilers, Theatre of Horrors looked abusable. But I think it's not worth running Spear Spewer.
Three colors will kill me for sure sometimes. But I bam hoping the U flyers make triggering Ruin Raider easier.
My core concept last year was the Fleet Captains. Pirates are such perfect trade-off cards. None of them are unconditionally good. I still think they need to attack, so Ruin Raider is free or I am probably losing anyway.
I definitely want to surprise some people with March of the Drowned and Siren's Ruse. The extra mana compared to dive down is hard, but hey, drawing cards. It could promote rigging runner and make Settle a little worse.
Curious Obsession deserves some thought. I want to be more creature dense than Mono-U. What matchups can I run it in without working as hard as Mono-U does to protect it?
Ruin raider could as you both said, leave you in ruin. Also I know he isn't a pirate, but I think that's fine here as he won't be here for that purpose, you could always toss in Midnight Reaper just a thought!

Trostani did do work for me when I played your build, so I maybe have been premature about that one. I ran 8 games and beat golgari 3 times pretty handily. All token deaths on them after they removed the main threats. I did lose to enigma drake. I just could get it off the field.
I took out angel of grace for the hydroid krasis and i'm happy with that.
What about the shanna, sisay's legacy as a one or two of?
I played it at fnm and got really bad luck. The deck felt solid when I had a nice opening hand, but really bad if I didn't have hero. I'm thinking maybe emmara or something else in the 2 drop slot is needed.

I'm sorry but dawnbringer is just bad in the main of any deck right now. I am also cutting sphinx's for chemister's insight. I may be swapping angel of grace for shalai. Trostani is pretty sweet after holding up frilled mystic on T4. She buffs all the tokens while also making 3 more.
Feb 1, 2019After playing various decks with Hero of Precinct One, I just had to make a Bant version. I think the deck could be quite strong. It has many answers in the multi-colored pool. Is it as strong as the Esper version, I'm not sure. This is what I will be starting with. Any criticisms welcome!Posted in: Deck Creation (Standard)
Jan 23, 2019Posted in: Deck Creation (Standard)Quote from SkyknightGamma »Decided to vector in Azor. So this is what the deck looks like now:
I will confess I'm not sure how likely this is to place even Tier 2, given the lack of one-drops and low card draw. (No Coiling Oracle or equivalent available to my knowledge, for starters. Merfolk Branchwalker doesn't quite come up to it.) I also wonder if the Ruses could be replaced by Quench, or even Absorb. I will freely confess that the main impetus behind crafting this plan was simple RAV-TSP nostalgia, though, alongside a strong desire to have my deck's centerpiece be Frilled Mystic. (And now Deputy of Detention is running a close second. Even if I haven't had cause/means to try out, say, Ravager Wurm.)
I haven't been able to test my list yet, I will be on Thursday night against a plethora of decks. I have also been thinking of the coiling oracle problem and thought that branchwalker would help in that area. I'm honestly considering going esper for dusk legion zealot, but that means we lose knight of autumn who is quite the swiss army knife, and mystic who is the sole reason I thought about this deck. I may try out a couple more omenspeaker in the maindeck and see how that plays out. He's a 1/3 so he can be used defensively in the earlier turns while smoothing our draws.
Jan 18, 2019I forgot about the hero's tokens. I just figured you'd want another anthem. If the deck doesn't need it I'd say mortify could be a good substitute. You're going to see quite a bit of enchantment play as there are a ton of great ones in this set.Posted in: Deck Creation (Standard)
Jan 18, 2019The branchwalkers aren't to accelerate your land drops, they are to find them. I have yet to test my list, but will be come Saturday/sunday. Mystic being sticky to cast is because you're only running 12 Green sources in your mana base. to effectively cast mystic turn 4 you'd want at least 16, preferably 17-18 if you're running Jadelight ranger like I plan to. I am even considering dropping another U/W dual for a simic guildgate. My game plan is to basically out advantage them. To do so I may have to add back in teferi or another vivien. We want to slow them to a stop with our early threats which help us find our lands. Stall the board with mystic and deputy, then drop our heavy hitters in carny t or vivien reid to take over the game.Posted in: Deck Creation (Standard)
