I played the above 5-0 list and also placed 22nd in the most recent modern challenge. I believe the abzan deck is not viable right now unfortunately. I've been trying all sorts of iterations and haven't come to one that is good. Graveyard decks are very difficult to interact with. In addition, we just don't have that many sideboard slots to fight off big mana, graveyard, and also have enough cards for grindy match ups. Hope this insight helps, maybe the next set will shake up modern and strengthen abzan enough. Until then, I am not going to be testing much more abzan.
Why do you need path to mantle? makes the mana worse and doesn't add much to the deck that mono red doesn't already have. You have sweltering sun and fiery cannonade. plus 1 damage is too small anyways.
5-0 mtgo league yesterday. Deck felt great against any decks susceptible to Goblin Chainwhirler. Goblin Chainwhirler is the truth in so many occassions. I plan on playing this in the ptq this weekend.
It seems that every white deck on mtgo is running Lyra main/side so I believe the best answer to that is Puncturing Blow as it doubles against Scarab God.
I'd like to improve my control match up, any suggestions of additional cards? The Kari Expertise in the side is for Galta, but could be replaced to improve the control match up. Thanks!
