I always thought that magic should do a type of quest card. Here is the idea. Mana is what you always pay... but suspend also let you pay off the card with time (i.e. less cost upfront but pay off with it coming into play later). What if we used this in other ways.
So here is the idea.
QUEST X - mana cost - you may play target card for its quest cost. Card is is removed from game with X quest counters on it. once all quest counters are removed put card into play.
There would be no mana cost for these cards...i.e. could only be paid for their quest costs. Might be nice to have the top part be the Cost (very small and the bottom part be the actual thing that comes into effect.... split card like...
Here are some examples.
Map to Undiscovered Paradise
Quest 1 - G
Tap a land you control remove a quest counter from Quest for Paradise
tap add 1 mana of any colour.
"Between the mountain lies a paradise waiting to be discovered"
Search for the Fountain of Youth
Quest 4 - 2
Every time you suffer damage remove a Quest counter from search for the fountain of youth.
Each time a source would deal damage to you prevent 1 of that damage.
Knight's Training
Quest 5 - WW
Tap a knight you control remove a quest counter from Knight's training
Enchantment - All Knight's get +1/+1 and vigilence
Secret of Life and Death
Quest 4 - BBB
Sacrifice a creature remove a quest card from Secret of life and death
Instant - Return 2 creatures from your graveyard to play
Mimic becomes a copy of permanent that is championed (effect does not end at end of turn)
I think this would be neat. First off essentially dodges all removal as you would flash champion something that is targeted and then that something would no longer exist and it also allows you to avoid the wrath. Essentially is a flicker variant but better as it also means that when the mimic is killed the original thing sticks a round. i think it is neat and could probably be casted low (maybe even pushing the envelope with a 1 casting cost).
I like that it could champion a land that is targeted with stone rain, or an enchantment or artifact that is targeted. Eseentially it is a counterspell which can also be used in other situations - i.e. to get comes into play effects and to doge removal.
