  • posted a message on Multiplayer Mill with Psychic Corrosion
    Hi everyone,
I'm looking for some experience with MP mill.
In the past I've used mill as a way to feed the grave, think Wight of Precinct Six, Nighthowler, Bonehoard.

The new Psychic Corrosion is a ripper for blue decks. Can't help thinking of Sire of Stagnation
I bought a set of these and I'm looking for something new to do with it.

I've tried Psychic Corrosion along with Mesmeric Orb with a mono-blue deck packed full of draw.
It turns into a pure race, it's fun to play, and fast enough to win if people don't take you out.

Cards like Frantic, Visions & Brainstorm are all quite efficient should just a single Corrosion be out. Multiple corrosion are ridiculous.
But my friends are onto this deck. Corrosion doesn't last a turn if someone is packing a Reclamation Sage.
So I'm looking at other options.

Cards like Windfall, Dark Deal & Whispering Madness all do a fair bit of work to mill opponents without Orb or Corrosion on the table, so I'm looking at whether a deck running all 5 of these might actually work in MP. Ideally I want to keep the curve as low as possible, so I'm not sure these all get in.
Has anyone built a deck with these three cards here? What did it look like?
Have you looked to win by pure mill with this combination of cards, or by some sort of pain combo like Liliana's Caress?

    Thanks everyone

There are many of the "must have 4" Rares that I don't even have one of from the older sets, not to mention WAR. My rare and mythics wilds are already reserved just to catch up. I appreciate your advice, though.

When I first joined arena, I blew all my rares on lands. It was a good decision in hindsight. Seeing as rotation isn't that far away, I'd probably avoid the check-lands like Dragonskull Summit should you be short on rares, but I'd grab the shock lands for the decks you want to play.

Yeah I like this one too. I've been doing a few different brews but so far Gruul-stompy seems the best home AFAIK. I hope I'm wrong on that, Gruul is so linear and dull to play.

Walkers .... way too powerful. Nissa, Who Shakes the World for example is absolutely insane and almost impossible to deal with once it's out if you're not playing a control deck that has PW removal spells.

    It's not that bad.
Being a 5-cmc walker, and belonging to a mono-coloured archetype, I have no problem with it having a powerful effect.

Being a 20-yr MTG player, I kinda like a big swing in the game to something different. Once the new sets come out after rotation, I'm sure there will be a large amount of answers being printed.

    Thanks everyone.
Yeah I found ranking up with RDW before War Of The Spark to be easy-ish, even tho RDW seems to always be matched up against life-gain decks for me. But now I'm finding the deck just mana-floods.
I do have an Esper deck, just wondering what the other options are....

Yeah I've had disconnections too. Sometimes I can get back in, just like you, but others it seems the server has taken away bandwidth from my area (or something that effects me anyway), as I'm unable to log back in.

    Stalling is rude.

Sure. But maybe they're not stalling?
On occasion the server is reeeeeaaaaaaaaally slow for me, but my opponent seems to be able to play the game just fine.
I might struggle to play a land before I run out of time due to the game not responding sometimes... just sayin.

This game needs to have tiers or match play based on how powerful one player's entire collection is vs another.

    Entire collection? I disagree.
I do think the matchmaking needs some serious work however. Maybe along the lines of win-streaks or win percentage of the deck you're playing? That way if you decide to play some silly deck just for fun, you're not immediately coming up against Esper-Control.

Hi all, I'm looking for some advice.

So I found a few months back, that Red Deck Wins was cakewalk-territory for Best-Of-1 to advance up the ranks.
But it seems Frenzy has copped some sort of nerf, cos it's utterly unplayable for me now.
So I'm wondering what decks you guys are using to level up.

The biggest problem I'm finding is simply, Esper is everywhere.
I'm playing both B01 & Traditional, a variety of decks, but Esper has good game against everything I like to play.

So, besides playing Esper, what are the best in either B01 or traditional?

I've stopped playing RDW Burn. All because Experimental Frenzy is just awful for me in Arena.
Every time I play this card, the top of the deck will usually be another Frenzy on top, followed by about 10 lands in a row.
I've made the switch to Chandra, just because of pure mana flooding, even though it's a poorer card choice.
Frenzy in arena seems to be nerfed, but from what I can tell, I'm not the only one having this problem. The other burn players I come up against seem to commonly whiff on Frenzy until I kill them.

As far as mana-screw & mana-flood, I constantly have this problem too, but some decks can get around this easier than others.

The clumping of cards is a problem. But try taking a card out of a deck, and putting a new one in. I seem to get that new card in my opening hand for like the 7 or 8 games. Hmm.....

I've only played online with Saheeli, but I have tried a dedicated deck with Pyro & Mentor. The deck was based around chaining low-cmc draw spells, think blue filter, for an army of tokens. Very vulnerable to sweepers, the deck really demands an all-in approach.

I guess with Saheeli, most Wrath type sweepers won't hurt as much. Red/blue is where I'd rather be, Mentor becomes optional.
What are you planning to do with all these tokens? Attack with them? Sac them?

Ok, that's fair - but it's been like this for the last month at least, like I said only certain times of day.
I can get around (sometimes) by changing my location with the VPN.

I hope you're right and it clears up, cos the times I want to get on is usually when it's bad enough concede & log out immediately.

Anyone else having problems with the Server being really sluggish?

Over here in Australia, I'm regularly having lag-free games at certain non-peak times, but during the typical peak times the Server is very slow and occasionally unresponsive. Sometimes I'm not even able to play a land before it passes the turn.
I don't have this problem with other games, Netflix etc., just Arena.

    Whats the word?
Anyone know a way around this?

The new set has given us a new win-con in Ashiok, Dream Render to test out. I think this card is more powerful than it looks.
Ashiok & Kaya, Orzhov Usurper combo is tempting, but it's not all that resilient.

    Quasiduplicate.
    Other examples of Jump-start for dual players;
    Risk Factor & Gravitic Punch

Ok, so Quasiduplicate seems pretty good to me for a mid-lategame Clone effect. I run a particular deck with a lot of copy or steal effects, so having good creatures isn't hard to achieve.
    Anyone else running this one?

I mean, just today trying to play this game at all in one vs one has ended up having a match where someone ixalan binds a krasis, and the deck shuffler stacked all the krasis together followed by a land pocket 3 deep.
The next match, I get all four arrests bunched up, a land pocket of 4 lands, and die because the other guys starting hand basically was better.
The match after that, I ended up having all my hero of precinct one stacked, a land pocket of 3 lands, and then got into another pocket of three of my four negates.

Yeah I've been having the same problem, but then, real paper magic does have instances of this too, just not as regularly.

Thing is, variance is fine, but I do find your land choices make a big difference to starting hands.
Case in point, playing Esper Control.
I found that having my land count (26 for me) a certain way would get me all 3 colours by T3 every single game, but if I deleted a guildgate for a second swamp, I would see both of those swamps by T2, and generally get locked out of blue until T5.
And I've noticed this in other decks to a lesser degree. My advice would be, if your deck regularly runs well and curves out well, don't change anything.
Methinks the developers have some work to do on their deck shuffler.

    Matching up certain decks with others is tedious, but I only notice being really obvious in ranked play. If I play;
RDW - my opponents are almost always running lifegain with Golgari Midrange, White Weenie & Esper Control, occasionally the Mirror.
Gates - Esper Control almost exclusively, which can be very tough to beat.
Esper - Mirror, Golgari Mid or RDW
    Izzet Drakes - Mono-Blue, Esper & RDW
    Gruul - Esper or RDW
I very rarely play against a Gates deck, and I can expect to play against either Esper or RDW in every second game if I play any of the above decks.

Now if I play a silly deck running lots of basic lands, rubbish creatures etc., I come up against other homebrew janky decks I would otherwise never see.
And this is despite of playing ranked play or not. I never see these decks unless I'm running something rubbish, which is a shame, I kinda want to see homebrew creations across the *virtual table* so I can steal their idea's. Wink
