Ok, so I knew this card had limited potential.
I've been trying to find a home for it, and so far Rakdos Aggro seems to be it, but I'm trying out other options.
I decided to change up my Hardened Scales-Counters deck, and chuck in Red. (it's been GB for a while now)
Long story short, heaping counters on it c/o Forgotten Ancient etc. to make it scary big was fun, but ultimately without some sort of evasion or trample enabler, this card gets chumped by Plants.
Anyone else run this fella? Where did you find a home for it?
Personally I don't find RDW to be the problem.
For me it's Esper. It doesn't matter what deck I play that's fun, I end up playing against Esper all the time, and it's very hard to beat. I can't wait for big Teferi to rotate.
FWIW, I hope the game matures into a platform that can provide not only Standard duels, but multiplayer, Modern, maybe even something more fun like Legacy.
Anyone faced the new INFINITE combo deck running Magistrate's Scepter?
To me, this is just the same as Nexus of Fate, which saw a ban from B01, as we just sit and watch the opponent durdle for the next 10 minutes.
FWIW, the game does have glitches, whether our OP knows the reason why or not.
I've had a couple games where I conceded, the graphics show me exploding, and yet I was awarded the win.
Whenever I have God-Eternal Kefnet on the field, I cross my fingers I don't draw a Chemister's Insight at start of turn. Whenever I have tried using Kefnet's ability, it just whiffs and I get nothing but two tapped lands.
I have also noticed that some players have managed to cast Charging Monstrosaur for 3-cmc, with nothing else on the field.
I've not been able to replicate this, so I don't know how or why it's happening.
RDW was the first playable deck I got and everything else is still many many Rares out of reach.
This I feel is probably the main reason why, everyone netdecks how many rares they might need for a decent B01 deck, and RDW is the quickest to assemble.
FWIW, I do find the match generator does pair RDW up against decks with a heavy lifegain theme, so it's not like it's downhill skiing.
I’m guessing you don’t mean rebels. Lin Sivvi, Defiant Hero finds them all, and changelings to boot.
No not really, specifically playing a single creature to fetch up the rest, as an *enters the battlefield* effect. Having to get around summoning sickness and tapping hem for the effect isn't where I wanna be.
My play groups tend to run B&R similar to what TechnicolorMage described. If it's legal in Legacy rock four of, if not it's restricted. Works out pretty well for us.
Yeah our group plays similarly, but we do have a bit of wriggle room, depending on the context of the deck.
I get that Windfall is a banned card in Legacy, but I'm not rocking a storm deck with Lion's Eye Diamond or Infernal Tutor, so I don't see how this card is broken, given the context of my deck.
Here's the version I took out last night for kitchen-table magic;
Some mill protection might be good, but I lent my only Kozilek, Butcher of Truth to my wifey, playing her Post-ramp deck.
Ideally I'd be playing fetches with Brainstorm, but I'm using them in another deck. I did take a handful of cards with me, like a sideboard, I ended up chucking in 4 Crux of Fate & 2 Leyline of the Void after getting destroyed by shuffle-Eldrazi. Thanks wifey...
It did ok, and was consistently able to assemble the pieces. Fun deck to play, although very vulnerable to hate. I won a single game in a 5 player FFA, out of 5 total, which was better than I expected since they knew what deck I was on, and ganged up on me in most of the games. Everyone hates mill it seems...
Playing Lim-Duls Vault was a good call. Chasm Skulker was pretty good, although it did become a Clone target with my opponents once they realised the tokens had island-walk. Yeah... that backfired a little! LOL Maybe some Jace's Phantasm next time I take the deck out.
Ha ha - yeah I love both Narset cards too. I picked up a full set of Narset, Parter of Veils as soon as I saw it available for pre-order.
Ok, so here's where my mind is at. I feel a sweeper might help, but Skulker & Waste Not may be enough. I'm trying to keep the curve as low as I can, given Mill usually draws hate, so no Sire of Stagnation for now. I love the idea of a couple Dream Salvage in here, but the card feels *win-more*. That said, it would work with Waste Not....
EDIT: I'll be chucking a singleton Eldrazi in here to shuffle my grave back into the library.
2nd EDIT: Probably +4 Lim-Dûl's Vault (cos I have them) to find Waste Not & Corrosion
Narset, Parter of the Veils is a strong card in duels. In MP land, have you found you get hated out for it? So far I find the card immediately makes the whole table turn on me for turning off their blue filter, perm-based draw and the like.
Winds of Change doesn't discard, Wheel is out of my price range.
Sphinx's tutelage, like you say, isn't as good. I think Memory Erosion might be a better choice to this should I choose to play it.
War of the Spark is a great set, so many playable cards that either fit into decks I already like to play, or make me want to build new decks.
The amount of planeswalker hate being printed does make me a little curious of where they're taking the game, but change is good.
God-Eternal Oketra is A+ but too exy for me. God-Eternal Kefnet is probably my favourite so far, I'm in love with this card. I bought a pair of them, reckon that'll do me. Kiora, Behemoth Beckoner is a very underrated card. Ramp and draw in one card is killer. Tezzeret, Master of the Bridge is ridiculous. They could have printed this at 7cmc and it would still be OP. Nicol-Bolas, Dragon-God is ok. I got lucky and opened one of these at a standard draft event. Took it even though I was on green-white proliferate. I won't be buying a full set given it's very niche. Liliana, Dreadhorde General is another one I got lucky enough to open in a draft (I did a few). It's a good enough to just blindly chuck into almost any black deck. Very good card. The ult is so good for multiplayer, I reckon this card won't last long though... Narset's Reversal is nice.
Spark Double is my pick for a card I want to play in a LOT of decks. I love the design of this thing.

Maybe expand your scope to include cards that say *extra turn* instead of just combat. There's plenty of them...
To me, this is just the same as Nexus of Fate, which saw a ban from B01, as we just sit and watch the opponent durdle for the next 10 minutes.
Thoughts?

Just thought I'd share. The new "Endgame" mode that has the counters buff was kind to me. I went 10-0.
My list was essentially just a Gruul deck with a low curve, together with a blue splash for Merfolk Skydiver & Hydroid Krasis.
I didn't run any typical red removal, just 4 Rabid Bite and a couple bounce spells.
Otherwise, 3 Domri, Anarch of Bolas, a single Nissa and an Evolution Sage.
Good Luck
Pretty much. I have the same problem, every time I'm close to clearing a tier (think Gold, Platinum etc.) I just get mana-screwed something cruel.
I like it
No not really, specifically playing a single creature to fetch up the rest, as an *enters the battlefield* effect. Having to get around summoning sickness and tapping hem for the effect isn't where I wanna be.
This is more what I was thinking. Obviously the white options here in Squadron Hawk & Legion Conquistador are more viable, given white has options like Sunscour & Force of Virtue.
Scroll Rack, Brainstorm etc. looks like a fun idea. I'll have to do a bit of digging here and see if it's worth the effort.
Cheers
Just curious if anyone has found a use for creatures that fetch ALL their mates in the deck, outside of equipment or aura decks.
Think Squadron Hawk, Legion Conquistador, Howling Wolf, Nesting Wurm, Skyshroud Sentinel etc.
If there's any I've missed please add them to the thread!
Of course there are others that are far more mana-intensive like Growth-Chamber Guardian, but this type isn't really what I'm thinking.
Just wondering if anyone has found a strategy or something genuinely cool, with these sorts of creatures.
Cheers

4 Watery Grave
4 Drowned Catacomb
2 Underground River
2 Swamp
4 Island
4 Visions of Beyond
2 Mystic Remora

4 Windfall
4 Whispering Madness
2 Dark Deal
4 Waste Not
4 Psychic Corrosion
4 Chasm Skulker

Windfall is restricted? What about Dark Deal & Whispering Madness? Are these banned in your group too?
To be honest, I'm probably going to cut Treasure Cruise, as Visions essentially does the same job by that stage of the game.

In the context of Windfall, Dark Deal & Whispering Madness, Waste Not here as a 2-drop fits very well on curve. Great suggestion.
Notion Thief combo with Psychic Corrosion and a mass draw spell like Windfall is just stupid. Ha!
