So I brought out pyro prison to my local fnm last night and for the second time went 1-3 I lost 0-2 to mono white anti burn/affinity deck, 0_2 to ponza, 0_2 to lantern. I won 2_0 against some mono green elf deck it was like infect without the infect creatures. So needless to say a lot of my decks hate cards were useless. Not one deck cared about blood moon except maybe lantern a little. Chalice was bad against ponza but good against the other three and bridge was bad against lantern and ponza. The white deck just exiled it whenever it hit the board and blinked my chalice. Plus all that stuff is pro red. Probably just bad luck in the matchups but the deck just didn't feel like it had good draws I had to mull in every game because I either drew 1 landers or no landers. Or my hand was super slow (no acceleration ) or it did nothing like all lands and just a blood moon or bridge. What do you guys look for in an opener? Like what is an auto keep and what is an auto mull. I new all the matchups before going in game 1 except the mono white deck. My list is pretty much fluffy wolf's but I played 22 lands a glorybringer 2 tormenting voice and swapped chainwhirlwrs for rabblemaster. I switched it to what fluffy has been running on his streams except 1 koth md in for 1 p&k ill try it next week. do you guys see similar problems with having to mull a lot or the deck just feeling like it's not doing powerful things ? I really like the deck but I never feel in control playing it

Hey guys went to my local fnm with pyro prison last night did do so well again went 1-3 I lost to mono white jank, ponza, and lantern. All 0-2 and beat a mono green jank elves deck that we trying to cast eldrazi from his sideboard with spawnsire of ulamong 2-0. All but 2 games I had to mull most of the time foe to 5 because my openers were 1 landers or all ritual into a bridge it was really frustrating I lost to my own deck more then to my opponents . My list is pretty much what fluffywolf has been playing but with a md glorybringer instead of the second p&k and chain whiskers In place of rabble and 2 tormenting voice I even played 22 land because the last time I played I had the same problem with mana screw. So the white deck I lost yo was built to beat affinity and burn game 1 so pro red creatures and ones that exile artifacts when they enter and kill goblins and life gain and damage redirection spells. My stuff just lined up horably against them they didn't care about moon and I couldn't block or kill anything and they just exiled bridge and chalice. Ponza is a bad matchup to they don't care about moon or chalice and go way bigger way faster and have me wayst to beat bridge. Lantern doesn't care about bridge or moon really because they run artifact mana and abrupt decay and hand disruption to take abrade and chalice. So I switched to 23 lands and brought the rabblemaster back in dropped the glorybring added a koth and got rid of the tormenting voices so Ill try it like this next week and see if I do any better. My question is about mullagining what do you guys look for in an oopenin

Hey guys been playing the deck a little more finally getting the hang of it I tried a version without bridge and swapped in 2 glorybringer and 1 stormbreath I liked it but I missed not having bridge game 1 against some decks so I'm back to 4 bridges and upped my removal to 2 suns 2 anger and 3 abrade I'll test it to see how it works. Also I'm thinking of throwing 2 boldwyr heavyweights in the sideboard for combo and control matchups what do you think about this ? Whats the worst they are gonna get snapcaster or lab man even against elves or storm it could be good to drop it turn 2 or 3 if we have a goblin ninja or sweeper to back it up and if we can have a chalice on 1 it shuts down path and push witch are really the only removal that can deal with it in those matchups just a thought feedback welcomed

Hey guys I've been playing skred without the snow package for a while now it works for me. I also run a godo bandit warlord and batterskull main which has been great in a lot of match ups it turns grindy games against fair decks into an unwinnable match if it can connect once. I recently sleeved up mono red prison and took it to my local fnm I didn't do so well went 1-3 losing to ponza, affinity,rg eldrazi and beating BW tokens I wanted to play a more controlling version of skred but the lack of removal and sitting behind a bridge that could go at any time didn't sit well with me it led to huge blowouts when the game was handily under control. For this reason until I can test it more I'm back to my mono red skredless skred. My question is there room for a couple bridges and chalice in our board I've found that decks that can go bigger than we can are very difficult to beat due to our lack of mass removal that can kill above 3 toughness. Also has anyone tested goblin chain whirler? This card seems like what we want to do its a great blocker for our walkers and can apply pressure and take care of early creature rather then having to drop an anger or suns to clean out some elves or wait an eta turn against d&t if they have a Thalia out which can be game changing. If you guys think it's a good plan what should I cut for them? My list is pretty stock other than the -4 skred and a 2-2-2 split of anger suns and pyroclasm thanks for any feed back

Hey guys just sleeved this this up for my local fnm last night. I've been on mono red control (skredless skred with extra sweepers )and this deck has peeked my interest for a while and I love playing non lantern prison decks so I thought I would give it a shot.

Well I went 1-3 with it last night. Not so good

Round 1 vs ponza 0-2 I'm guessing this is a pretty bad matchup for the deck? I was on the draw turn one utopia sprawl into turn two stone rain into turn 3 acid moss kept me on 1 land for most of the game i thought keeping a land heavy hand was the right choice but when I finally got to start playing magic it was turn 4 and I had to deal with an inferno titan and all I had of relevance was a chandra that didn't live long and a hazoret that couldn't attack or block never saw a bridge but she had double primal command to keep me flooding out and bounce the bridge if I ever played it .Game two pretty much the same thing chalice on 1 turn 1 to shut off sprawl and elf then I dropped a koth and started attacking but she had turn 2 ratchet bomb into double elf double sprawl into turn 4 inferno titan.

Round 2 affinity 1-2 this went ok to start thought he was on burn so I put chalice on 1 turn 1 he dumped his hand and had ravenger plating and an etched champion I couldn't block or kill. blood moon kept his inkmoths from working but I couldn't deal with the champion. Game 2 double shattering spree anger magus of the moon was a good hand kept him from assembling any kind of board state and I won with magus koth beats. Game 3 he dumped his hand equipped an ornithopter with plating dropped a ravager and an overseer and killed me before my 4th land drop.

Round 3 0-2 rg eldrazi not much to say. game 1 i flooded and he took my only relevant action with thought knot. Game 2 I got stick on 2 lands casting all my 3 drops with rituals and spirit guides but he had ratchet bomb charged up and took out the bridge and blood moon at the same time never found another land

Round 4 2-0 BW tokens turn 1 chalice on 1 into turn 2 chandra ulted chandra and killed him with the emblem game 2 I sided in a stormbreath dragon it was a pretty good grind fest we traded back and forth but he put me to 1 with 4/4 spirit tokens he had 3 cards in hand and was at 9 life I ripped my 7th land off the top made stormy monstrous and attacked for 7 unlockable he cast a fatal push into my chalice to try and empty his hand but didn't make it .

Overall I liked the deck I think most of my loses were due to variance and luck. About my list I don't have the gemstone caverns I only run 2 rabblemaster and chandra but 3 koth and I don't have the chain whirlers . I never was happy to see a rabble master it just didnt do enough i thought also i think i need to play the full playset of abrade for more removal because bridge is great but there are only 4 in the deck and the sweepers we play can't stop anything over power 4.

Hey guys went to my local fnm last night with mono red control (I don't play snow lands or skred). I went 2-2 I won against BW eldrazi 2-0 they are super soft to blood moon. Also won against Humans 2-1 I pack a lot of sweepers anger, suns, and pyroclasm wich was hard for him to keep his meddling mages in play with.
I lost to eldrazi tron and merfolk 0-2 both matches against e-tron he had turn 3 tron both games but game one fetched a wastes instead of his last tron piece when he saw blood moon come down and I got taken to town by thoughtknot and smashers I couldn't deal with. Game two he had natural turn 3 tron with karn he plused karn up to 10 and I think this is where my mis play was I dropped a stormbreath instead of a blood moon which he would have to remove before he could play anything else and I could have probably dropped stormbreath next turn and bolted karn to get rid of him instead he took blood moon with thoughtknot seer next turn and it all went down hill from there.
Against fish turn 1 vial into turn 2 adept and lord into turn 3 lord lord on the play was to fast for my removal I did end up stabilizing at 1 life but she had two fairy conclave I couldn't deal with so I lost. game 2 my turn 3 koth got countered and turn 4 stormbreath got locked down with some fish that keeps it tapped I drew alot of sweepers but she had multiples of that guy to keep stormy out for the whole game and I never drew another threat or land to monstrous storm breath while she preceded to lock out my removal with chalice it was frustrating but sometimes you just draw the wrong half of your deck.
I think if I were to make some changes to my list it would be to add a couple abrade main and maybe a couple bridges side because every deck I faced was stone cold dead to bridge except for a very few lucky draws from e-tron

    I play
    2 anger of the gods
    2 sweltering suns
    2 pyroclasm
    4 lightning bolt
    1 pyrite spell bomb
It has worked well especially with mindstone having the extra mana to drop an anger then bolt a wurmcoil or drop double sweepers to take care of eldrazi is nice with the relics goyf isn't an issue and the pyroclasm are nice on turn 2 vs elves, affinity , any of the company decks, goblins, merfolk.against other contol decks they kind of suck but still can kill snapcasters or clique and suns can cycle into somthing else thays why i play the 2-2-2 split

I totally agree about mindstone it is so versatile. And I've always thought this was control, I play it as control, in the version I play it keeps the board clear with spot removal and 6 md sweepers then sticks a planeswalker or other finisher and control the board with removal. When I play the deck I always keep track of my opponents hand size when deciding what to play usually if I'm running out of gas I can do nothing for a turn and bait my opponent into over extending thinking that they can capitalize and win, then wipe the board and stick a walker and crack my mindstone and relics to refuel and that is usually enough to lock up the game. As to the chandra/koth split and dropping mindstone I think people don't utilize koth's -2 as much as they should. I've sand bagged him a turn then drop him and use his minus to drop a pnkn or board wipe to stabilize it works well just remember we are a CONTROL deck and need to play as such

I like the idea of magma jet but I can't get away from all the things mindstone can do it draws cards exclerates our mana and in a pinch can be sacked to pnkn for the last two points to burn someone out or kill their last flying blocker to make way for a storm breath. I get that magma jet is is a solid card but mindstone can be extra draw against lantern and can help keep your had full against 8rack. I'm not saying that magma jet is bad but mindstone works so well at helping to drop early threats and draws us a card in the late game. I am always happy to see a mindstone in my opener or most any time. Also I like the 27 mana sources it defiantly helped me pay the monstrous on stormy and have mana to board wipe then recast an eternal scourge which by the way every opponent I have done this to sighs

@boomforest do you have a deck list or a link to one? I like the deck a lot and have most of the pieces is red really the best color to splash has anyone tried anything else also a few post ago you said the primary engine of the deck is map, crucibal, fair is this usually the first thing to assemble when playing the deck ? Thanks

@Xremag I have a buddy who plays bant company with a splash of red for kessig wolf run and we have played several games. needles, cage and tormods crypt are all stars for me also spellskite is great for stealing a wolf run activation from a bird. using artificers intuition to pitch dead cards and find needles or cage or crypt has worked wonders. We have played 6 or 7 games and I've only lost once.

So does silent gravestone have a spot in our deck to stop sheltered and surgical effects ? I know that our academy ruins doesn't play well with it but if we use ipnu rivulet as a secondary win con I think it would work seeing how crucibal doesn't target . Also we can always sac it to foundry if it became a problem. Also it can be pitched to brutality or artificers intuition if anyone else is playing that just a thought

Turn 3 or 4 koth after a board wipe or bolting their t2 creature always feels good to me especially if you use his minus ability to drop a pia and Kiran or a blood moon and lock someone out for a couple turns I usually try to ult him as soon as possible even if that means losing koth. the benefit to have all your mountains be able to keep the board clear or apply pressure is really hard for most decks to deal with I have the 4/2 split in my deck but I would be will ing to drop a koth for a pyromaster because late game koth does feel bad when you want a dragon or somthing else

Hi all i went to a a fnm at my lgs last night I played sultai tezzerator. I had a 1st round bye and played a side game against a fella who was playing some uw life gain angel deck game one I locked him out and ult tezz to drain him for 34 he was at 33. Game 2 I had the game locked up and he was at 40+ life and resolved a felidar soverighn I didn't see coming so we went to game 3 I got a turn 3 tezz of a pentad prism and beat face with a 5/5 inkmoth nexus he couldn't deal with because I had a defense grid in play

Round 2 I played against a burning inquiry liliana' s caress deck that mainboarded blood moon I thought it was hollow one at first and got cage and bridge but then he played 3 liliana' s caress and kept making me discard my hand and draw new cards with some miracle card and messed with my mana base with blood moon i lost . Game 2 I had early prism so i could keep up green for abrut decay on blood moon i had an early needle on liliana of the veil and was able to get crucible to fix my mana base he milled naturally it was agonizing he was surgicalling all my winconditions as they were being discarded . Game 3 I played na early tezz and made a 5/5 prism and beat face and he couldn't deal with it I won 2-1

Round 3 vs ponza this person got first place game 1 I had the game all locked up and was using tezz to look for a win condition I took a crucibal instead of a spellskite trying to be proactive and my bridge got beast within and I had no answer and was dead on board .Game 2 I got mana screwed and a turn 2 blood moon didn't help then stone rained a acid moss finished me off I lost 0-2

Round 4 I played against humans I resolves a bridge with an empty hand and he scooped game 2 he had the feebooter for my bontus last reckoning and double mantis rider into image killed me quickly i did get a bridge down but he vialed in a reck sageon my end step game 3 I got an early bridge out he blew it up played 2 ffeebooter to take my relevant removal and his board just grew out of hand to quickly I lost.

So I went 2-2 I liked the deck a lot I felt it had game against everybody the bloomoon decks are tough also the humans player sideded in 8 cards against me and was main deck in 2 meddling mages as well I think some changes I will make would be to drop the chalice for maybe a second map also I wasn't a big fan of playing against burning inquiry
