So I've got in the mail
2 kologhan's command
4 spell snare
4 nimble obstructionist
2 young pyromancer
2 thing in the ice
And I have access to dispel, spell pierce ECT. So any help on the list would be appreciated. My meta has burn, infect, tron, jund, adnauseam, fish, affinity,Mardu pyromancer, lantern, kci, humans and hollow one but not all at the same time oh and titanshift. I don't have the snapcasters and will probably buy them down the road if I like this deck enough because out of all the decks I own they would only go in this one so it's kind of a sticking point. I like to get the most bang for my buck.
Hey guys I just found this thread and I am in the process of assembling a grixis delver deck. I have everything except the snapcasters. I own probably 8 other modern decks that are mostly combo, control, midrange so tempo will be new for me. Do you guys have any suggestions on what to run in the place of snapcaster I'm planning on nimble obstructionist/ v_clique split 3/1 or maybe all obstructionist. Also my mana base is designed to not be hurt by blood moon and I was thinking of playing between 1-3 main maybe those in place of snapcaster. If this just seems like a super bad idea let me know but I play pyro prison as my main modern deck and blood moon just strait hoses quite a few decks especially when it's not expected like it would be from a grixis delver deck. I just got done watching the videos of bourbon foxes list with search for azcanta in it so I know the deck can function well with at least a couple enchantment in it. Anyways thanks in advance I'm looking forward to playing some grixis delver at my local fnm soon.
@stickballruss
Ok I'll take your advice I'll add a third eidolon and a spellskite for the 2 scab clans
My list is stock the usual
21 lands
5 ritual
4 ssg
4 chandra
4 bridge
4 chalice
4 moon
4 abrade
2 sweltering suns
4 rabble
2 p&k
2 ballista
Plus the sideboard I posted above thanks for the advice I'll get my hands on the 3rd eidolon and toss in the spellskite I never thought to take out the ballista but it makes sense. Also what's the game plan against jund I've only played against it once with this deck it seems like and early moon + chalice on 1 is sweet but other than that what what are we looking for against them ?
@stickballruss
1 yes bridges come out and eidolons go in. In game 2 I got an early eidolon but nothing else
2 my sideboard has
2 eidolon
2 ratchet bombs
2 shattering spree
2 anger of the gods
2 scab clan berserker
2 spyglass
1 graffdiggers cage
1 stormbreath
1 hazoret
3 I've played against the deck a lot but other than moon and chalice I have a hard time trying to figure out what to play out would it be better to just let a guide or swiftspear through and try to draw removal rather than play a creature and turn on searing blaze ? Also I own 2 spellskite i jist keep forgetting to put them in the deck
Hey guys went to fnm last night got second place! I only lost to burn I seem to play this kid every week so I should probably start dedicating some sideboard slots to it.
Round 1 2-0 against 5 color pile I've never seen this girl there before after game 1 I tried to take it easy on her and help her out after the match we broke down her deck and lowered her curve and got it down to 3 color Mardu. Later in the night I walked around and watched a few of her games she didn't win any but got damn close a couple times.
Round 2 G-tron 2-0
Game 1 double rabble and blood moon got the job done quick game 2 turn 1 eidolon turn 2 chalice on 1 and an abrade for his o-stome slowed him way down he got a karn out and ate my moon but ballista took out his karn and he only had 1 drops in his hand
Round 3 burn 0-2
Per usual I couldn't find chalice in time and had no relevant cards game 2 same but I got a turn 1 eidolon and just couldn't find any more pressure he was able to race me but barely.
Round 4 infect 2-0
Game 1 blood moon locked him to just 2 forest and I killed all his infect creatures got out a bridge and spent the next 8 turns or so just drawing and passing he scooped to go to game 2
Game 2 I got a turn 0 gemstone and played a turn 1 chalice on 1 he looked at his and I i new he brought in nature's claim and and not dissenters deliverance he tried to get through with his hierarch he played turn 1 but an endless stream of mana monkeys gunned up the works I won on the back of those beating down it was two very painful games but felt good to lock him out early both times.
Hey guys I just picked up a play set of sarkhan before there was a price spike from the skred dragons list. I'm going to try him in my pyro prison deck but it feels kinda bad to use him with no dragons in the list so what's everyone's thoughts on the best dragon to run as a 2 of main aravacious, stormbreath or glorybringer. And what other creatures to go with them? 4 rabble and a split between p&k and ballista or two of either of those? Right now my creature package is 4 rabble 2 ballista a p&k and a hazoret main.
Hey guys went to my local fnm last night went 2-2 lost to burn and RW control in 3 games. I beat lantern and mono red kilnfeind 2-0
Round 1 burn 1-2 so this was the kid I beat last week 2-0. game 1 I had turn 1 chalice into turn 2 moon then I dropped a rabble and a chandra and hit another chalice for 2 he scooped. G2 I mis played and ran out chalice on 1 before my blood moon he had revelry in hand for chalice and all 1 drops the moon would have shut off his green and slowed him down. G3 I kept a hand with no hate on a mull to 6 I probably should have mulled looking for a better hand.
Round 2 lantern 2-0 g1 I had a fast chandra he couldn't find a needle for and a chalice on 1 chandra emblem got there. G2 he dumps his hand and double inquisitons me 2 turns in a row he has pixis and a needle for chandra I play koth and beat down with rabble and mountains I shut off shredder with spyglass and he was milling away cards he needed with pixis to keep me off my hate.
Round 3 RW control/prison 1-2
G1 I get there with a chandra emblem eventually the game takes forever he would play wrangle and take one of my creatures and then sacrifice it and exile one of my permanent with some other card. throughout the round he did this 6 or 7 times it was really annoying playing out a rabble then having him take it get a token attack me with both then sac the rabblemaster and exile a blood moon or chalice. He also had o-ring, he said he only played 2 but all 3 games he had both for all the chandra I played. It was tough casting creatures because he would take them use them against me then sac them and get more value then I would. Game 3 I took out bridge because I didn't see any creatures game 1 or 2 and he suspend 2 greater gargadons I had double chandra that he had the o-ring for again I flooded out but found a p&k which he stole and sacked to his gargadon he fork bolted my thopter and sacked all his lands to his gargadon and attacks for 18 it was a tough matchup it seemed he had all the answers for what I was doing.
Round 4 kiln feind 2-0 turn 1 chalice on 1 shuts off his spells then I lock him out with bridge. G2 same thing but he gets me to 1 before I flood the board with blockers and kill his guys.
Overall the deck played well I made some mis plays but I'm trying to learn it seems the hardest matchups are when I play against a brew. Im loving this deck the more i play it I've got like 8 modern decks and this is right up there for most fun deck I've played.
@overlytired I'm mainly suggesting martyr of ashes a s a side in against decks that chalice on 1 isn't good against and as a sweeper very early in the game like before turn 4 when we usually still have some cards in our hand to deal with decks that can go bigger than anger suns or slagstorm can hit. it might be too narrow but without testing it's hard to tell. I was thinking it could be a good turn 1 against fish or eldrazi tron even if they don't run out there hand into a martyr it's doing it's job by slowing the game down til we can find a bridge or moon or whatever we need. Also it gets around Thalia which can be a huge problem especially since she negates our rituals. Just a thought I don't think it comes in every game but in some matchups it seem like a solid turn 1 especially if we side out chalice.
Hey guys I'm not sure if anyone has tried this card out Martyr of ashes it's a 1/1 for R and it has an ability 2 sac it reveal any # of red cards from your hand martyr of ashes deals that much damage to each creature without flying. Seems like it could be good against eldrazi tron, d&t, humans, elves, and merfolk. Being able to get around a Thalia tax and potentially dealing out 5 damage turn 2 seems like a good way to get under meddling mage and beat those decks that drop threats our sweepers can't handle or have lots of lords to buff there dudes, maybe just being able to drop it turn 1 and slow those fast decks down a turn or two could be all we need to find a bridge or whatever we are looking for in the match. Just a thought I might try 2 in the board this week and see how it does. If anyone has any thoughts I'd be interested in hearing them.
Alright guys I'm back just got home from my local fnm after a few weeks of going 1-3 and being discouraged with the deck I managed to tie for first tonight!
Round 1 mono green elves 2-0
Went as expected abrade a couple dorks and ezuri board wipe and drop bridge and chalice on 1 then on 2 ult chandra he had no answer for bridge.
Round 2 jund 1-2
Turn 1 blood moon locked him out long enough to find a rabble and kill him.
game 2 he has the hand hate and I got stuck on 2 lands blood braid into a second 7/8 goyf ended it quick
Game 3 kept a hand with no hate after a mull to 6 dropped a turn 2 rabble that got decayed then a turn 3 hazoret that got saxed to lili -2 found a moon but lili was already for ult he split lands and moon it was down hill from there
Round 3 mono white eldrazi and taxes 2-1
Game 1 I got stuck on 2 lands thought knot and Thalia killed me quick. Game 2 he couldn't deal with all the board wipes and stormbreath. Game 3 was super grindy turn 2 blood moon locked him on a single white mana for 5 turns and double bridge stopped the assault he managed to reset chandra but he ran out of answers and the emblem got there.
Round 4 burn 2-0
Game 1 turn 1 chalice on 1 blood moon turn 2 abrade his goblin guide and killed him with rabble. He complained about my deck being un fun and said chalice should be banned. Game 2 I kept a hand with no hate on a mull to 6 got out a turn 2 rabble and a turn 3 hazoret and just raced him he was at 14 I was at 9 and I got there he was salty but I did't use any of those stupid hate cards he didn't like. I know what its like being locked out its not fum but it keeps other people honest.
Overall the deck preformed good I'm glad I stuck with it and this was my first 1st place at fnm thanks for all the feedback and help with my list and sideboarding help I'm still working on finding the 4 eidolon for the side. I'll be sticking with this for a while
Hey guys thanks for the feed back I got a couple more games in against my buddy who has been playing a super fast all in on the combo version of counters company. It has the ability to win t2 with the help of some mana monkeys. anyway I lost 0-2 against him he comboed my t3 both games through chalice on 1 and a turn 1 blood moon he had the nuts and just a super redundant hand I didn't have enough removal for. But then he also plays d&t and so we had time to play a round with that g1 it's super grind but I get there making him deal with planeswalkers rather than me til I can beat him down with tokens and ruins. G2 turn 1 chandra on the draw get the emblem and he can never recover I was living the dream that game it felt good to see the deck preform.
@fluffywolf in that game against lantern I had 5 mana and cast spree replicate 2x and left open mana for an abrade on his turn to hopefully get rid of the bridge that was holding my goblin army back. But missed the chalice trigger on spree and that's were my mis play was I didn't catch the replicate spells should have resolved as normal til after his turn and by then it was to late I should have called a judge but at least I learned a valuable lesson. And also that is for the tips on sideboarding I'm sure it will help this fnm

@Caligula ok thanks for the insight I have never played against kci before. two people have it at my store but I haven't got paired up with them since they've been on it. I've only got 3 rabble master that I own I tried to get a 4th at my store but they don't have any so I'm running 3 and 1 chain whirler main for the time being I took fluffywolf advice and dropped a ritual to run the 22nd land and I've got 4 chandra 2 ballista 1 p&k 1 hazoret and 1 koth main as well as the full 12 lock pieces and the 4 abrade along with the 4 spirit guide and 4 ritual and I'm running 2 suns main because being able to cycle them rather than wipeing out all my goblins to keep my hand empty for bridge has come up a non zero amount of time any advice on what I should change or add to what I've got now? again thanks for responding to this I really like the deck and want to do well with it so any advice is greatly appreciated
@Caligula & @fluffywolf thanks for the words of encouragement I new ponza was a bad matchup and the mono white deck just seemed to have all the answers for everything I was doing I had g2 locked down with a chandra emblem he was at 16 and I played an abrade to kill his guy to get my bridge back and he played some damage prevention spell and redirected it to me I was at 2 life it was upsetting. As to the rabble/chainwhirlers I play 3 whirler main and 3 rabble side it has seemed that whenever I got a rabblemaster out quick they would drop a 2/2 and just block the token every turn and I couldn't attack with the rabblemaster without losing it. so I decided a 3/3 with first strike that cleaned up x/1 creature and can attack and block x/3 creature would be more useful. But im not entirely sure how to use the rabblemaster don't get me wrong he closes games super fast if left unchecked which is probably why he's in the deck ? But seems lack luster if they have a blocker that can trade with him or stand in front of the token and never let you accumulate an army.
As for lantern this is only my 3rd match playing it ever. game 1 he had the nut draw with hand disruption on the play I never got to draw anything of relevance he had a lantern and a mill rock turn 1 and inquisitioned me taking my turn 1 chalice. Game 2 I sided in shattering spree and had a chalice on 1.his opening hand was 3 baubles 1 jar, mox glimervoid needle. I played a mountain passed the turn he drew dumped his hand named chandra with the needle and played a lantern. My turn 2 I dropped a chalice on 1 and passed back ( I have a spree in hand and a rabblemaster with some mountains and chandra. Turns go back and forth he had bridge turn 2 I have a mis play on turn 5 he is searching for an abrupt decay for my chalice. So here's what happened I have 5 lands he finds the abrupt decay I cast shattering spree replicate 3 time leaving two lands open to abrade the bridge on his turn because I new he was going to crack the jar to save it and him from my army of goblins. I spree his bridge and his needle and lantern he cracks the jar and grabs his needle jar and lantern and put them in the graveyard I pass the turn to him he draws the decay and blows up my chalice at which point he says wait spree should have been countered by chalice on 1! he's right I missed my own trigger I apologize he grabs his cards out of the graveyard and puts them back into play I'm flustered and didn't want to get blamed for cheating and forget that I had planned for the spree to get countered but not the replicated copys. He finishes his turn and I look at my hand and see the abrade and remember the replicate spells should have resolved but it was to late too much had happened my b so that's how I punted game 2.
