I want to make a Dragon deck work in modern. Any suggestions to make this deck better?

In my original version of the deck, I also ran 3 overgrowths, instead of the new Sarkhan, and over Haven of the spirit dragon. I decided this version was better, but I have not yet play tested it. I am also curious to use Broodmate Dragon, because it will trigger Dragon tempest twice. I have not tested it either, but I believe it's black will not be restrictive at all, because of the various cards that can generate any color.

Jun 2, 2018Consider using See the Unwritten over Sunbird's Invocation. This will hopefully always get you two strong creatures for six, and it is a bit faster than your enchantment. This does not cast, so conduit of ruin's ability would not trigger.Posted in: Deck Creation (Modern)
Pelakka wurm might be worth having a look at as well.
May 30, 2018Silent Arbiter, is really easy to kill, but in my deck, it wouldn't be too unlikely to give it hexproof. I'm already planning on using four Mana Leaks to slow them down, but this is still probably not enough. As I'm fiddling with my deck, I'm leaning more towards blue/white, which makes Enchantress prison seem more appealing.Posted in: Budget (Modern)
I will test these out, and see which ones work.
May 28, 2018Ogre Slumlord. For rats, this is all I can come up with. It should be handy with regenerate.Posted in: Deck Creation (Modern)
Playing an Elf deck would have more options, and it would be easier to win with it.
I would also try cheap removal, but your rats may do well enough without it. Consider Doom blade .
May 28, 2018Xvinter posted a message on Which version is better? - Using Unblockable CreaturesSo I have two variations of a deck, and am unable to decide which one is better. These decks are not set in stone, and any of the cards from one deck, can be moved to the other, or any cards that may not be listed that might be good. Any suggestions on making the best deck possible would be appreciated.Posted in: Deck Creation (Modern)
and the next deck Idea
Feel free to swicth any of the cards around, but this is how i feel that they might work best.
May 28, 2018Most of these decks that you have suggested above, are more like combo plays, or requires a bunch of cards to work. For mono blue boomerang, you need a full deck of such cards, or a way to return it so you can keep returning their lands. Enchantress prison also requires more cards, relying on about 8 or 12 to get a full effect, using cards like ghostly prison, propaganda and sphere of safety. Each one of these could do fine alone, so it might be worth having a look at these. Lantern control is out of the question, because of my absurd card draw, and cost wise to buy. Turbo fog is interesting, but I am unsure if I am willing to put enough fog like cards in it.Posted in: Budget (Modern)
Overall, I am sticking with Silent arbiter, because by itself, it achieves what I need. I am not trying to achieve a prison, just slow them down enough, for my deck to outpace them. If there are any suggestions, please list the card, as it might come in great help, because Silent arbiter is not perfect.
May 24, 2018I am currently looking for cards that will slow down my opponent. An example would be Island Sanctuary, it is not modern legal, but it has the type of effect I am looking for. Silent Arbiter is another card and I am considering using it.Posted in: Budget (Modern)
Here is a few things I want the card to be.
1. A lower converted mana cost, preferably nothing over four mana.
2. Budget price for paper, nothing over five dollars. (If there is two different versions, The cheapest one is great.)
3. The color is preferably blue, but does not have to be.
The deck I want this for involves triton shorestalker and cards like curiosity, that I can keep exploiting with combat damage. So if there is a card invovling combat damage, that would be perfect.
May 21, 2018Sure Nawillih, these are the decks I typically play against. You are right that I do play in a causul tournament, the name might make you laugh. It is called the Junior Super Series tournament, where a bunch of high school students get together and play magic. it is free and the winner gets two booster packs, and top four get one. As you can see, I am not playing against top tier here.Posted in: Deck Creation (Modern)
Decks I almost always win with playing against my enchantment deck... ( https://www.mtgsalvation.com/decks/2521-whispers-of-the-enchanted )
1. Seismic swans. This contains Seismic Assault, Treasure hunt,Lightning bolt and the swan card, unfortunately I don't know its name. Usually can win by turn four, but would be easy to beat with any type of control cards.
2. Sorin thememed, Includes both Sorins, Sorin's vengeance, vampire nighthawk, day of judgment, and light removals like doom blade.
Decks my enchantment deck struggles with,
1. Tron. This is a budget tron, but has all the lands, and uses cards like reality smasher, and the Ugin that returns colored permanents. It is the most expensive deck here, ranging around 300 american dollars.
2. Aggro, boros themed, this uses mainly ravinica cards, but also has classics like lightning bolt. It almost never doesn't win by turn 4.
Im not trying to get my deck to beat tron or aggro, but if you can find a way, fantastic. Please realize, that these are not all the decks there, there are plenty of other decks, most of them involving a combo of some sort, but I feel like countering Seismic Swans would counter them all. If you need more info, my enchantment deck almost always places fourth, if that helps, and most games, few people plays threats turn 1 or 2.
May 19, 2018This deck has a lot of card draw. Having 8 curiosity like effects and 4 ordeal of thassa, if the opponent does not have a way to just quickly destroy my creature, I should easily be drawing enough cards to reliably play a land every turn till turn 6. Almost always, I will probably have played a dowsing dagger, so i feel like the mana cost of my more demanding spells should be worth it. Stolen Identity is a card I believe that will be good in my meta, and the moment I can cast Beacon of tomorrows, why not play it? It is likely that when I can play beacon or Argentum, that I already have the game in the bag, so they may be worth taking out.Posted in: Deck Creation (Modern)
I currently do not know of any cards that will help with sacrificing effects. It is true, that if my opponents has one, I am likely to be screwed. Maybe Mana leak, could help with protecting creatures.
Would opt be good?
Also, since I have more card draw, maybe more mana ramp would be good, so I could capitalize better on card advantage. Palladium myr seems like a good choice, since i can copy it with stolen identity and let it be the target of sacrificial effects. Also, maybe i should try powerstone shard,(can also be the target of stolen identity,) or silver myr instead, and how many should I put in, and is so, what would be the best to take out?
Also, thanks for all the comments so far, its been a good help, rethinking through my deck.
May 19, 2018Invisible Stalker is a great card for my deck. However, I feel it would be better in the sideboard then main deck. The reason why is, at the tournament i regularly go too, no more than 40% of the decks there run cards that can destroy my creatures before I attach neurok Stealthsuit to. I agree that Lightning bolt ect, are huge in the meta-game right now, but they aren't as prevalent in my tournament. Of the 40 percent that do have such cards, they only run the 4, in which chance gives them a percentage of drawing the card at 39 percent. it would be a little more, because I did not calculate in turn draw. Looking at those numbers above, it seems like the risk of using Triton shorestalker over Invisible stalker would be more worth the risk. Because if I run, Invisible stalker, I lose a turn no matter what, causing me to also lose two cards, but i am safe from risk, or use the triton shorestalker, and if he dies, I lose two cards and a turn. Then if you add in the cards I would have got, that is another two cards, and another turn. You suggest I put in both, but I feel like there is no need for me to ever have more than one creature out at a time. I am not trying to overwhelm, and this will only give them more advantage if they play something like Day of Judgment.Posted in: Deck Creation (Modern)
Triming down the Aura and Equipment cards is an good idea, but I don't know which ones to get rid of, and what to replace them with. Counter spells might do well, and I do not like Serum Visions, mainly because, i am already running 8 card drawing enchantments, and any cards that I draw, will work, because they all buff my creatures.
As for running more powerful Equipment, there aren't very good ones out there. Of course there is Eldrazi conscription, but the cards is to expensive currency wise for me.
May 19, 2018I have this deck idea, and I am wondering if there is any cards to help it control the battlefield. As I look over my deck, i feel like it may have problems with creatures. It has several ways to help with this, but none of them are playable until turn three with a good hand.Posted in: Deck Creation (Modern)
DeckMagic OnlineOCTGN2ApprenticeBuy These Cards Creatures 8
4 Triton shorestalker
4 Mist-cloaked Herald
4 Ordeal of Thassa
4 Curious Obsession
3 Livewire lash
2 Argentum Armor
3 Neurok Stealthsuit
1 Inquisitor's flail
4 Dowsing Dagger
4 Lost Vale
4 Beacon of Tomorrows
3 Stolen Identity
2 Skyline Cascade
Dowsing Dagger and Lost Vale are the same card.
A quick preview of how I plan it will work, Like how the average first three turns will be like.
Turn 1, Island, Triton shorestalker
Turn 2 Island, Curious obsession, Curiosity Then attack, draw two
Turn 3, Depending on opponents deck, Skyline cascade, Dowsing dagger or Island, Neurok stealthsuit
After these three turns, you would have established yourself good card draw, and plenty of mana if Dowsing dagger.
So, any suggestions to make this deck better?
Mar 31, 2018This is a brainstorming thread where players list their favorite enchantments that control the battlefield. Discussions are welcome, and the goal of this thread is to end up with an impressive list of enchantments that control the battlefield. An example of one of these cards is porphyry nodes. This is a good example of cards that control the battlefield, but something like oblivion ring is perfect too. There are others ways to control the battlefield with cards like sphere of safety or ghostly prison or maybe even citadel siege. Let’s keep the cards listed here modern legal, and list as many cards as you can think.Posted in: Modern Community
Mar 30, 2018Hey, I feel like your deck needs mesa Enchantress. oblivion rings should be upped to four, and cards like detention sphere would be great. Sigil of the empty throne could provide lots of angels, and sphere of safety might be worth looking at. In don’t think sword of vengeance is very good here, and I feel like your deck will crumble if the opponent has a way to create tokens. I cannot think of a good answer for these problems currently.Posted in: Budget (Modern)
Maybe try oppressive rays, a cheap card that your going for.
Mar 30, 2018Xvinter posted a message on How to make Whispers of the Enchanted a better deck.Hey I need some suggestions for my Whispers of the enchanted deck. If you have any suggestions please post them below. I feel like the deck needs some control cards, in addition to the ones it has already. The deck is down belowPosted in: Budget (Modern)
