Well, unfortunately WoTC is based out of one of the most liberal cities in the country. I’ve been playing for 20 years and I’ve seen quite an agenda being pushed. I’ll try to quote examples as far back as I can in sets.
They had Alesha the transgender warrior.
Chandra is bisexual now (with nissa?)
Ral zarek is gay now with a forbidden love story.
Black elf in core set 2020
All the planeswalkers are either female or oppressed.
Oko is Highly sexualized for some reason.
Mostly female knights in Eldraine which never happened in European folk lore.
Killed off all the strong white male characters (Domri, Dack, and gideon) to be replaced by crappy ones. Kaya, Chandra, and Vivien are Muh strong female lead, and feel extremely pushed on us.
Im sure I can find more examples but it’s not worth it to me.
I’m a liberal and believe everyone has a right to their opinion but they’re sure as hell pushing a political agenda through cards.
What does liberal have to do with them being inclusive and representing all walks of life in their fantasy environment? Gay, transgender, and all the other things you mention are a part of our world. Simply turning a blind eye to them and depicting all characters as buff white dudes is an agenda imho. Acknowledging that the world is full of all types of people and carrying that over to their design is what people should be doing, instead of looking backwards to a time when characters were predictably of certain races and gender stereotypes based on their roles in stories. In fantasy, we have an opportunity to explore the what ifs of a known cultural story. Despite the fact that Knights weren't typically female in our world, what if they were? And as wizards has told the story, no big deal if they are. Kudos to wizards for making us think.
The closest folk tale or fairy tale that comes to mind is the Erlkonig or Erlking, an evil elf/ouphe who steals the souls of little kids. It's a German and Danish story.
Maro also said there would be over 40 named mechanics in this set
Dare we see Banding or Flanking make a return?
A legend that gave Banding or Flanking to the team would be cute. Even more so if they had matching colors... I've never had the opportunity to try, but I would enjoy swinging in with a mob of banded 1/1's that all had flanking and band together and kill some big 'ole 5/5 before damage even with the banded flanking alone. Heck, gimme a Lord Legend that gives the team both banding and flanking and that's all it need say on the card to have a bunch of fun!
As much as I'd love to see banding reappear, I'm pretty sure that like ante, they will never do that again.
Flanking on the other hand is pretty sweet and did appear in Time Spiral, so it is in modern.
I am also a teacher, but I do not find a lot of good uses for magic in the classroom. That said, Magic can be a great way to get kids interested in spending more time in your classroom and is a nice way to hang after school for an hour or so with 5-6 kids and foster a connection which can make teaching easier.
As far as incorporating it into lessons, I think you'd be hard-pressed to make that effective for all students, because some people just don't dig MTG (for some reason).
Still too much cityscape for my taste. Just show m ea bunch of trees for "Forest", a wide expanse for "Plains" and so on.
It's going to be rough if they rotate out current and older basics in decks in Arena and I have to use these.
It's a city-plane, so in theory, there are no open forests or plains on Ravnica....
Since the announcement of Modern Horizons, I can't stop wondering what Vintage/Legacy/Commander/Conspiracy/Battlebond goodies they'll reprint for the modern format.
I thought I'd start this thread so we can share our collective mind and discuss potential reprints (and maybe their effect on the format)
Don't look at this as an EDH variant. Look at it as a different version of singleton. I think it's aimed at getting new players more comfortable with formats. I always hated having to get 4 of a card to compete. I'll never forget winning a box of Urza's Saga with my winter orb deck, and thinking that I'll never be able to afford four of each of the premium cards in that set at age 17, so I sold my whole collection (for the first time... lol). This way people can play with all those one-of rares they pull right away in constructed formats.
The commander part allows for a little more consistency and a chance for new players to jump into a synergistic theme without too much specialization.
Don't play it if you don't want to. I'll have a deck ready to play people.
I think you mean "destroy target ATTACKING creature" ... not quite as strong.

More importantly... why is this thread here?
Not sure this will affect foil prices, as Invasion foils are rarer than newer foils. Those old school foils are nice looking too...

My short list:
"Warriors matter" cards from battlebond (good common/uncommon chaff) Aurora Champion, Azra Bladeseeker, etc...
Arena Rector
Flusterstorm
Angel of Finality
Crosis's Charm (cycle)
Darksteel Mutation
Undermine
What do you think?
