You hvae. And Path, while worse than Swords, is good enough.
Path is pretty bad unless you have mindcensor or leonin arbiter to prevent getting 2 for 1'd basically. It's the best answer white has to tarmogoyf but specifically against jund it sucks playing an inefficient spell giving them even more card advantage in an already bad matchup from the control perspective.
I'd like to see Jace unbanned, not sure how overpowering he would be in the current meta though. When he existed in the same standard as jund he was kept in check by BBE I think. Can't imagine the price of the card if it got unbanned though would probly end up being $200-300 lol.
Instead of banning more, they should unban some cards so that the format isn't warped around GB/x good stuff. The control decks in the format are barely viable.
My favorites were pulling Garruk Relentless and Liliana of the Veil out of 6 prize packs after FNM when she was worth ~$70. I also pulled a foil Jace, Architect of Thought after FNM when it was worth ~$100 and traded it immediately for 2 Non Foil. Probably should have traded those also lol.
I can say my Grixis list is about 50-50 with Jund. It usually boils down to being able to answer them for the first few turns and stabilizing behind superior card advantage. Liliana of the Veil is probably the most dangerous card against us if it resolves. Sometimes they just rip your hand apart with Thoughtseize T1 on the play, sometimes you just have removal / counters for every card they play till you cast Cruel.
Hmm I'll have to proxy it up and try it. I was thinking about building UWR control but this looks like an interesting option.
I only run 3 maindeck Sulfuric Vortex and have never found that number to be a problem. It lets you hit it when you need it without getting multiple copies when you don't.
I run maindeck Searing Blaze instead of Flame Rift. It's a personal choice that's debatable. But I do like having my entire sideboard available for combo hate. When almost every combo deck in Legacy is at least potentially faster than Burn's fastest goldfish, it's important to have hate.
Yeah don't think dropping flame rift is possible my meta is pretty bad for burn. Its either storm or decks with leyline to protect themselves from tendrils while burn being collateral damage lol...
I'm contemplating cutting the 4th MD sulfuric vortex for a pyrostatic pillar lol... Basically just cutting all the searing blazes from the SB in favor of more hate for the unfair decks. After playing against the Tin Fins matchup last night I see no possible way of winning without dedicating some hate to it. It's depressing when you have your fastest hand possible and they kill you on t1/t2...
This deck takes a long time to kill people especially when your opponent is playing that dumb enchantment that brings itself and the creature it was attached to back from the gy to chump your plate mail the entire game. I only actually finished the game with plate mail twice, the rest of my wins were from people conceding after I started chaining sphinx's revelations.
So would you guys throw rocks at me for suggesting a splash of blue for Snapcaster Mage?
You might as well just play U/R Delver at that point. If you are going blue you might as well get Delver and Force of Will to have better matchups against what mono red burn is weak to.
This matchup sucks if they get top and counter balance. First game I managed to push enough damage through before he could get them both. Second game I was able to have a t1 goblin guide and resolve Sulfuric Vortex, he couldn't beat it. Considering getting Vexing Shushers for the sideboard I think I just got lucky.
Second Round: ANT 0-2
Was pretty ****ty mulliganed to 5 both games, he killed me on turn 3 both games.
Third Round: ANT (I Think) 2-0
He played tendrils and past in flames but never saw ad naseum. He also played some UB Vault thing where he paid life to look at cards.
First game he had a slow hand I suppose and was able to kill him before he went off.
Second game he went off but I got him with Mindbreak Trap.
Fourth Round: ANT (with Chrome Mox) 0-2
First game I died on turn 3.
Second game I had a fast hand capable of killing him on turn 3 but he went off on turn 2 and killed me.
---Made it into top 8 as 7th seed---
Quarter Finals: ANT (from second round) 2-1
First game we both had pretty slow hands apparently. Don't think I got him till turn 5 or 6.
Second game he went off on turn 3.
Third game he had a slow hand again and I got him on turn 4.
Semi Finals: Maverick 1-2
First game I just ignored his creatures and was able to win through thalia by a large margin.
Second game I had him down to 2, had a searing blaze in my hand with 3 lands out. Needed to top deck ANYTHING but a goblin guide or a Grim Lavamancer and I win. He has KotR, Thrun and a Deathrite shaman out with no creatures in the graveyard. Of course I top deck goblin guide then he top decks Zuran Orb >.<
Third Game I kept a one lander with 2 Goblin Guides and a bunch of bolts. Proceeded to never draw a land for the rest of the game ~9 turns and he gets Zuran orb again and Jitte. In hindsight I probably should have just boarded out the guides because they are so bad against Thalia. Keeping 1 land vs a deck with Thalia is pretty terrible too.
