I haven't had any issues with any mm2017 cards myself but I place all my good stuff in perfect fits.
Shake up bans: is a problem. it causes instability and scares people from investing in Tier 1 decks which is Ludacris.

I would be ok with a three mana Lightning bolt if they would do the equivalent for creatures like 3cmc Grey ogre instead of 3cmc 5/5 lifelink, firststrike , indestructible, if you control a creature you can't loose the game kind of BS.

Look at how much more diverse modern is at the moment with out shakeup bans. Modern got better when Wizards left the format.

Most of us play modern because we don't want a rotating format. If I wanted to play in a rotating format it would be cheaper to play in standard. We don't need shakeup bans ...

So, First they used "shake-up-bans" to flush players into standard. Then they stopped the modern pro tour thinking that would lead to a slow death like legacy but that failed to flush more players back into standard. Now they are going back to the "shake-up-bans" so apparently it does flush out more players than having no pro tour.

I would rather have no pro tour than giving more control over to wizards. They are manipulating us, this is nothing but a way for them to use there power of the ban hammer to cause instability in modern.

PS: Modern was better with out the pro tour.

kk guys thanks i just wasnt sure with that wording
A lot of us were Confused on the wording of Oketra's Last Mercy when it was Announced myself included. I thought the sky was falling before I got clarification on it. When people Question the ruling I just quote them rule 118.5.

I have never seen a company that seems to hate their regular customers as much as Wizards/Hasbro. Every decision lately seems geared to New or future players at the expense of their older loyal regulars.

    Kinda like drug dealers Grin
Maybe there's more than just ink in the cardboard. I know I get a little gitty when holding fresh cards. Lol.

Sulfur Falls is that getting reprinted any time soon?

No idea. I got a good deal on two foils not too long ago, in the hopes they would one day be relevant again. One is sitting in a binder, the other in a Commander deck. It feels like something that could be reprinted any time, but none of them are terribly expensive.
It's something easy to reprint, like in the new core set.

Wow! Talk about step in the wrong direction.

I don't care at all about double sided tokens. Such trash, but I bet a lot of players will come out for shiny Aether Hub (I did) and special shiny Fatal Push. Absolutely wrong move.

Bumping game day is also bloody horrible. So they want to wait until the format is completely solved (and sometimes stale) to have 'game day'?
Makes no sense at all. If anything they could have added an additional event to keep people 'engaged' and give away a new set card. I really enjoy current game day because you basically can roll in with a brew and win or do well after only getting a little pro input to viable decks. Bad move. Now it's all clone decks.

Open house and showdown are fine. Do they think very hard about these changes or is everything seat of the pants trash?

It almost feels like they are trying to give people less reasons to play the best deck. Like they want FNM to be powered down so that people feel there's more Standard diversity.

I'm not following how that could be their intent from this change. These are all 'marketing' decisions to promote the next set and does exactly the opposite of what you're reading in.

Do you play online? Lowering prize support is one of the ways they try to keep away sharks from events.

We know we have a Standard that Wizards feels is facing support issues. We know they want to bring people back to Standard. If you told me tomorrow that a memo leaked showing that they felt FNM prize support was too high and was attracting serious players to FNM that chase the casuals away, I would not be the least bit surprised.

EDIT: I totally missed this link from the article. So they literally said they want FNM to be casual (read: powered down).
Why would they want FNM to be casual? FNM is about as competitive a lot of us get. If that's is what they want they need to go back to the old dci system were if you loose to a scrub at fnm you may not even qualify for larger events. I remember back in the day no competitive player would play Fnm because of the fear of loosing to a low ranked player.

I play Burn because I have a short attention span, I enjoy the quick games. I also run Mono White Turbofog sometimes if the local meta is right because sometimes one game a match is all I want to play . Lol.

Spellskite is good for protecting (or disrupting) combo pieces. It's not really worth the slots as just a value card most of the time.
I agree, As a burn player I hate spellskite, especially in Collected company decks with combos.

This is a tough one to figure out we know the numbers are BS so why are they really stopping FNM promos. Is it to drive away paper players from brick and mortar stores into Magic online.

They do make more profit off MTGO however there are a great many customers/players who would never make that transition so I seriously doubt there's a conspiracy here. This is just more unadulterated nonsense from people who are not qualified for their jobs.
I'm one of the players who would never play Magic Online. I've always believed that if they get 40 percent of players on Mtgo they will stop printing physical cards.

Between the Ixalan spoilers hinting at some Merfolk support upcoming in Standard, the Merfolk/Goblin duel deck, a doubling up on Masters sets and a tribal Commander product run it seems likely that some needed cards for this deck are going to get reprinted - and seeing as I'm slowly getting the pieces together (Commander fan who just wants a box to open when strangers say they don't play EDH) I was wondering if more seasoned players have any opinions on what's safe to buy now and what would be worth holding off on.

I'm already set for the cheapo Merfolk like Harbinger of the Tides, Master of Waves, Silvergill Adept and a bunch of the little tech and sideboard pieces like Spreading Seas and Mutavault. I honestly don't expect Merfolk in C17 and my money is on two Cursecatchers in the deck for DD MVG and a promo of either of the Lords (preferably Lord of Atlantis with new art!) I think it's reasonable to expect Aether Vial to be in one of the two Masters sets at least, but Cavern of Souls is probably going to be benched considering WotC apparently views it as Mythic now, right? I've heard Spirits mentioned on and off for C17 because of that Taigam guy so I guess it's possible Kira, Great Glass-Spinner could be in that list.

Opinions? Thoughts? Inb4 "no one could possibly know yet dont ask" don't be that guy, I just wanna hear what people are thinking

Merged with the "Modern Prices Discussion" thread. This is an specific post that falls into this thread better than others, and in a way directly deals with the prices of these cards.

I been doing the same picking up the cheaper pieces of merfolk . It's a risk since we don't know what's in the duel deck but I don't want to get priced out of the deck. What isn't in the duel deck is likely going to spike with all the new interest in the deck.

Good idea! I have been trying to buy back into Merfolk for months now (selling my Merfolk deck around a year ago). I am just missing 4 Cursecatcher, 4 Silvergill Adept (which are at a store where I have plenty of store credit), 4 Master of Waves, and 2 more Master of the Pearl Trident. I should probably close on those when I can, but I keep finding other stuff to spend store credit on, lol. :p
Master of Wavesis mythic I'm picking those up right now.
