Thanks! The other troublesome deck is UW control, the one with two Gideons and Jace. This may be my least liked deck in all of MTG. Win or lose, I don't enjoy playing this deck at all.
Do you try to go under it, or do something different?
If your having trouble with UW Control add some Exquisite Firecraft to your Side Board
You're welcome, Exquisite Firecraft is usually enough to finish them off. I have noticed that UW Control is picking up in popularity in my area. If your running into a lot of decks with counterspells it may be worth main decking 1 or 2.
I don't like the Planeswalker rule change it devalues planewalker uniqueness not to mention it doesn't make sense. I think wizards needs Planeswakers to be a thing because they raise the monetary value of standard sets. This change will likely raise the play of planeswalkers in modern which will allow planeswalker to hold value past rotation.
Is Shrine of Burning Rage really any better than Isochron scepter? Both are win more cards. Isochron scepter is faster to get going and cheaper to activate.
That's a pretty bad comparison, to be honest. Scepter is card disadvantage and is mana-intensive - that makes it a completely different card.
I don't like either card in burn they are both win more cards. Shrine doesn't impact the game when it comes into play which is a deal breaker. Cards in burn need to add value when played. There are a lot of great cards that don't see play in burn because they have no immediate impact on the game.

I recently started playing Magic again, and I'm looking to flesh out my online collection. So far I only really have the cards for Mono U Tron. Any tips on staples I should be picking up? Looking to grab cards that might be cheap right now but useful in the future. I'm mostly interested in playing Esper color decks, but that doesn't mean I don't have love for R/G.
Also, any lands I should be picking up? Shocks, fetches, etc. that might be dropping in price?
Do you want to end up with just a massive random collection of Modern staples or do you want to work towards building a specific archetype? I very much recommend the latter.
I agree with you, I would rather focus on one or two archetypes to avoid wasted capital on over purchasing. You need self control if you have a limited budget like I do. It's easy to over buy in this hobby, Magic Is Addictive. I see decks every day I would like to build.
Burn is a very flexible deck you can play it mono or any color combinations. I like the boros version currently because it does well in my local meta. Mono Red burn is the fastest version but it lacks answers but in the right meta it may be a better choice. I think 4cmc cards are a no go for burn, Mainly because you need to raise the land total which removes slots for cheaper spells. I have look at Ajani Vengeant many times in my binder and thought Repeatable Lightning helix that's good.
I know the meta game at FNM can be really shifty " especially if players like to brew". Some weeks I go 4-0 easily other weeks it's a struggle to go 1-3.
I think Competitive tourneys are actually easer since the meta is usually known and predictable.
There is no perfect answer for shuffling beyond having a shuffling devise shuffle decks. I do think we deserve a cut after are opponent shuffles are deck, What would it hurt. If you suspect someone is piling your good stuff on the bottom of your deck it would give you the ability to reverse it.
This is why I hate this rule. Your giving your deck to a potential cheater or some gorilla who tries to destroy your deck, and there's nothing you can do it's the rule. I get why we allow are opponent a cut but I don't get why they get to shuffle your deck. I would rather we have a 3 cut rule. You could cut your opponents deck up to 3 times but no Shuffling.
If I`m not mistaken, youre allowed to call a judge and ask him to shuffle your deck instead of your opponent, if you`re concerned about the way your opponent is shuffling.
You can ask the judge but he-she has the right to refuse and that makes the situation feel even more awkward . The problem I have is, I sb a card in and Shuffle my deck, then my opponent buries the card by looking while shuffling close to the bottom of my deck. How do I prove it? It's not the bottom card its just in the bottom portion of my deck. It becomes their word against your word. I have had this happen and nothing was done about it because in the end it's the judges call not your eyes. Why can't we get a cut after our opponent is done shuffling are deck?
