There are a ton of interesting cards in WAR, but at first glance I think "Almost Playable" is going to be moniker of all the top cards in the set for my (power) Cube. However, it seems like there are more hard-to-evaluate cards than normal so the door remains open (well, ajar)
In general I imagine we will play with plenty of these cards, but it will be in other situations because the threshold for (power) Cube is way up there. (I honestly think it is higher than is generally appreciated on this forum)
And today's word of the day is... Reconnoitre. I guess there must have always been a verb to describe getting reconnaissance, I just never wondered what it was. You learn something new every day.
Nothing too exciting in the cards, though like everything with Proliferate, EDH players may find something they like.
Its the "other" use of recon (after reconnaissance)
im still the negative guy on this set here. the only really interesting upgrade is the tap guy. the weird might play fine in the spells matters deck as well, but ill probably wont exchange it over any other 3 drop i run.
Twinbolt turned out pretty lame in my cubes and is now T3. Pyrohelix is also not a new card and has been around for a while.
Band together, yeah. Depending on the rules in the end it might be decent to still pretty bad compared to other colors removal.
Bloom Hulk. Vanilla 4/4 for 4 doesnt make the cut in any of my cubes and proliferate wont do much in most cubes unless you jumped through some hoops before.
I really dont see anything more interesting or pushed then what we got in the last ~3 years. Actually its even worse than most sets.
It seems like they're pushing the envelope a little bit, but only in places where the envelope would need more than a push to be Cube viable (spells matter, green "removal", etc)
If they'd themed it even *slightly* more broadly, say, "Topple the Monolith" it could have been "destroy artifact or legendary" which would have been boss.
the burn spell is fine i guess, even for aggro who wants to remove blocker. but right now the density of quality burn is so high, i wont find a spot (in t1)
and generally spoken, burn that also hits face it much better.
Tapper is the first real upgrade then. Nice. I like that its still a soldier.
Trying to think of the most relevant token the new tapper misses in pauper. Elephant Ambush? Nothing major off the top of my head.
Law-Rune Enforcer actually seems better than Gideon's Lawkeeper. You rarely want to tap a 1 drop and being a 1/2 and only requiring 1 instead of W really makes a difference.
I guess they figure it will be ok for WAR since it can't tap tokens, but it is pretty strong for a common
Really? That's your conclusion? And you're an English teacher?
It's an action movie cliche. Your analysis is as ridiculous as if a piece of flavor text quoted Chandra as saying "Danger is my middle name!" and you took that to mean her name was literally Chandra Danger Nalaar.
As someone who knows someone who gave their child the middle name Danger I don’t find that ridiculous at all.
To be fair, the conclusion drawn would probably be something more like "this line is foreshadowing Chandra being in danger. Perhaps even grave danger"
My 465 cube runs 4 lilianas. If you're in black in our group, there's a pretty good chance you're playing at least one. I literally don't think I've ever seen the potential target your own creature upside of Diabolic ever actually happen.
In the past, we've run Innocent Blood before for mainly that reason. Cabal Therapy is in the same vein. Probably outmoded by now though.
Um, like is this like, um, atrocious writing, like, um for real?
(which isn't to say it was a good deck choice at the time)

if you pay G1 after casting this

Or maybe they were a series of punny name plays before someone nixed it and made them rename them.

There are tons of cards that are ambiguous if you parse them closely.
