but yeah sure. chumping is also relevant. but at least you will damage eventually then.
I was thinking of x/5s as a dynamic variable that could affect the decision and my conclusion is that it is not since basically every Cube will play almost exactly the same x/5s (Roots, Hartebeest, Angler, Benthic, etc)
Were you intending to cover every card in FS? Amongst the ones you omitted, I think Bound in Silence has seen some fringe play in large Cubes looking for more pacifisms (granted BiS was downshifted years later)
During my review of the spoiler I found the following cards that I don't believe you mentioned:
whether or not a 5/4 is better as a 4/4 trample depends on you cube, like how many x/5s youre running.
In a vacuum 5/4 kills a turn faster.
I dont like the red hound. the body is too fragile in both modes and Red has usually no problem to burn out the opponent. Usually you dont wanna trade on board too much.
I think x/5s have virtually nothing to do with it. If there are a bunch of tokens in your Cube or otherwise expendable small creatures, the value of trample goes up substantially.
EDIT: maybe I'm missing something but the only tou=5 I can think of that really apply are other green 4 drops and maybe a few walls like Roots, Glare or Dreamstalker. Even at 5+ cmc it's not like there's a ton in Pauper.
All told I think maybe 12 might be remotely considerable (and that is stretching it for multiple cards like Rumbling Baloth that have obviously superior analogues)
EDIT: worth noting that Peema Outrider doesn't appear but should basically be on the list. Probably Hooting Mandrils as well.
Thanks so much to everyone that responded! Across all the various niches of the Cube community, we managed to get 84 responses. You can find the finished article here!
Some really interesting findings come out. The results make me want to test Thassa, Deep Dwelling.
In the Pauper subform one poster called Satyr's Cunning the worst card in the set -- and I can't see how they were wrong. Seems 100% uncubeableunplayable.
Thanks for the writeup, wtwlf123! Always look forward to these articles.
At 360 powered, I'm personally testing out Nadir Kraken, Phoenix of Ash and Dryad of the Ilysian Grove. Sad to hear that the Kraken was too mana-intensive in testing! I'm testing Phoenix of Ash since I don't really want all 5 Rabblemasters at 360. I'm also hoping that the Dryad can further enable the lands deck, but it's probably a pipe dream at current time. Agree that the rest of the set is pretty mediocre, though.
I mean, there are multiple combo cards that are, um, not mediocre.
If we were talking about constructed Pauper I would definitely agree that 1 toughness is a dealbreaker. Multiple Deserts can get ridiculous. But for singleton Cube I tend to lean toward Al's opinion that red's power is enhanced but without totally invalidating 1x/1s.
This is quite arguably a very weak set (where’s all the evasion?!), and - so far as I’m personally concerned - yawn inducing on the order of magnitude of Amonkhet. So unexcited and ready to move on already; no wonder there was much ado about the other upcoming sets leading into this spoiler season.
Also: that story article? Horribly written. I could teach a high schooler to do better.
Hate to say it but I would expect some high schoolers to do better
I think Seeker is the correct cut, but I just added it to up my Watermarket support, so I don't want to cut it yet for a non-watermarked card. Containment Priset has been great against Monoblack, which I think is one of the better performing archetypes in my cube, and also gets to hate out Cheaty Strategies, so I want to keep that as well.
Pony has been good for the Blink/Splinter Twin cross pollination archetypes. Kiki/Clocknapper/Resto Angel/Pony make up the pillars, and blink, twin, and blinktwin all perform well, so I don't want to cut Pony. Twin is one of the reasons I want to add Sovereign/Big Thalia, but I don't want to cut support for hate - rather just add hate while leaving support.
I'll go with keep Initiate, cut Procession, add Big Thalia. I used to have Sovereign, but cut it because it had trouble surviving combat, so I think this does sound like a good change.
edit: after making the change, I found out Big Thalia has a watermark version, so that's very nice that I can up Watermarket support here.
Haven't tried Watermarket personally but I would have assumed that it's best use was with watermarked things that cost at least CC on their own.
Well it’s officially coming to together to me now (well some other people probably beat me)
But I think it’s counters that adds keywords to creatures is what the crazy mechanic is and those double sided things has the chosen ones
Probably simply the most known evergreen keywords
If we get a little crazy with the speculation it could be that the double-sided cards are something like the Hearthstone "Discover" mechanic: you randonly decide which side of the card you get and each side imparts a different keyword.
Yea but there’s lots and of keywords evergreen/deciduous/for one set you name it it would be only one keyword per side if that’s the case I think it’s punch outs like amonkhet did to present for each “(keyword name) counter” probably the evergreen ones is what they will focus on
Yes, there are technical, conceptual, and logistical barriers but they are promising something new and cool. Your idea may be closer to feasible.

Of those it is easy to disqualify a number of them: Carnivorous Plant is a Wall, Flowering Lumberknot requires soulbond, Jackalope Herd lol

EDIT2: apologies, shortened link isn't working. https://scryfall.com/search?q=r:c c:g cmc=4 pow>3 tou>3 (c=g or is:hybrid)

uncubeableunplayable.Autocorrect of sorceries? That's my best guess lol
I'm pretty sure Entreat the Angels is the best white 4,5,6,.., drop
