I always find complaints about bad things happening to popular characters a little silly.
“Why couldn’t it have happened to a character I don’t care about?!”
Because you wouldn’t care. If they only did things you won’t care about then you wouldn’t care about any of it. The reaction they’re getting with this decision is the entire point. You don’t like that this bad thing happened to Tamiyo because you care about the character, which means they did their job correctly.

No because it makes me not care about the rest of the story. Having a character lose all connection to who they are and have no control over their actions isn't an interesting plot point to me. Essentially the Tamiyo we cared about is dead but we now have this husk that has no real identity staring at us. Couldn't the same be said about Phyrexia? They had years in the lime light and they lost I don't see why we need to spend more years rehashing the same storyline only now we have phyrexian planeswalkers oooohhh so exciting.

On the one hand, another story arc with a new big bad is kind of neat. On the other, I hate the "oh, this character you loved? They're brainwashed and evil now" thing. I honestly would've preferred Tamiyo to die. WotC's anti-human bias also continues to show - why not have one of the random human planeswalkers suffer this fate, I'm sure we have over a dozen of them at this point.

The boring part about an established character (human or not) becoming compleated is that it basically removes all nuance from them. Once they're Phyrexian, they are nothing more than a "doing evil things for the sake of being evil" type of caricature.

I totally agree with you. It just is a slap in the face on so many levels. First and foremost Tamiyo is the planeswalker who could so easily be the Saga matters planeswalker. And not only that she is a pacifist. I just want to be done with this story so bad wake me up in three years I guess lol.

I am not happy. Not happy at all. All of my excitement for this set is gone lol. I may be overexaggerating but I was legit excited about this set and then it all went to zero in the last two card previewed. Ugghh lets just go to new phyrexia and get this horse dung over with.

seems like we're getting new versions from all the Praetors in a multiset cycle then?

    Nice....

it would be great to return to Phyrexia soon.

They are 100% building up for a return to Phyrexia, like they are right out in the open about it. Trouble is that they have been building to it since at least 2018 with Dominaria and Karn going to dig up the Sylex, and at this rate it will be 2026 before it happens, assuming they continue with one praetor in the first set of the year and then do Phyrexia after that.

Hopefully that's just the first two and not the pattern. I know it can't be this year, but 2023 or 2024 would be reasonable

I think a a part of that was outside of creatives control.

Some leaker (who got Kamigawa and other spoilers right) said that Sheoldred was suppose to be in Eldraine. Later Maro talked on how Eldraine was originally gonna be two sets with one more focused on the Arthurian side and would have been a bit lighter in tone and one more focused on the Fairy tale side with a darker tone (mimicking how the twins went from the safety of the castle and home to go into the fairy tale woods as part of their quest) and that Kasmina was gonna to be in the set as the Merlin stand in. So if the leaker is right (and they had been right about stuff) seems like the Sheoldred bit got cut out.

Also Theros Beyond Death had its novel cancelled but the brief summary did note that Ashiok learned of Phyrexia from Elspeth and went to learn more about them. While not a praetor per say it is likely Ashiok will become an ally to the Phyrexias since it would be the best nightmare fuel.

I know a lot of people are excited to see Phyrexians I am glad they have only given drips of them. I've said it in the past, probably when Vorinclex was revealed lol, but I feel that if they overwhelm us people will get sick of them. The eldrazi were focused in 3 sets and people were already done with them. And some people are already a little weary about original Kamigawa being combined with cyberpunk. If we see Phyrexian ninjas I think people will be upset lol. I hope they slowly reveal the plan and then the war with the phyrexians is like 1-2 sets in stead of like 2 years of sets fighting them. But I know some would rather it be the other way around.

your kidding right phyrexians are eons more popular than the eldrazis

That doesn't mean people won't get tired of it if they keep hammering the same themes over and over for too long.

I know that people love them but like Mergatroid said if they get hammered into us it will be too much. The Eldrazi themselves were and to an extent still are pretty popular themselves, but their presence were overwhelming in the return sets to Zendikar and Innistrad. Like I said Kamigawa is already stretching itself fitting in all of the traditional stuff with the cyberpunk. I like the praetors showing up and story bits thrown in but the set will be terrible if it has to compete with phyrexian cyberpunk ninja's running around.

Makes sense The Wanderer is a planeswalker version of the wandering samurai, I do wonder if she is the Emperor.

They said emperor if it was the wanderer they would have said empress

Often when referring female rulers (I believe for east asian empires mostly) you use Emperor when referring to the position to to show that the person is the ruler and not the consort. For example Wu Zetian is called the first female Emperor of China to note she was the actual person on the throne (though calling her Empress Zetian isn't incorrect).

The only counterpoint I have is it would seem to end the mystery of the wanderer in kind of a weird way. I'm making an assumption that if she is the emperor she'd have to be native to the plane and her identity known to the people and then it would be known to us as well. I initially thought it could be Oko masquerading as the emperor, but I think it doesn't work out color balance wise as Kaito is most likely Dimir, Tamiyo is some combo of mono blue, Simic or Bant and we now have the wanderer who is most likely mono white. Have we had confirmation that Tamiyo is in the set? It'd be kinda shady if they left her out.

I'm guessing we're going to see ability tokens back. and I feel like buckle up could go either vehicles or equipment.

I think that would be cool as the Ikoria precon wasn't as pumped up as I wanted it to be lol. I think that the upgrades unleashed could still be related to Ninjas as Kaito is a heavily modified cyber ninja planeswalker.

I might have somewhat of a idea of what might become legal in eternal

    likely:
dice rolling and coin flips is the most obvious
    Augment and host
    Contraptions assemble and reassemble
cards worded like regular magic cards (examples killerbots infinity elemental, crow storm
Cards that have black border versions (example: the cheese stands alone to barren glory)
    Most of the legendaries
    The alt win condition cards
    B-I-N-G-O
    Blast from the Past
    B.O.B. (Bevy of Beebles)
    Chicken and clam folk creatures

    depends:
Artist/art related (these are easy to understand but mark might not allow it.)
Last strike and triple strike (if they allow it)
    Squirrellink and Knightlifelink
Baron von count (it’s hard to activate but might have a similar problem like leovold/black braids.)
Cards involving words or numbers (Now I Know My ABC's dodges this bullet)
By Gnome Means (first ability is black it just depends if the counter part is possibly)
The cards with same art with different abilities
Flock of rabid sheep (the type of token is the only problem it’s just coin flips for X tokens)
    Cards involving age
Grusilda, Monster Masher we're okay with this one mark may not
    Reminder/flavor text
    Involving sets (symbols) or watermarks

    not happening:
Everything else but we will give most obvious
    Gotcha cards
    Wacky stunts
Player cards (acception is Timmy, Power Gamer that card is literally a creature Quicksilver Amulet no tap required)
    Any thing involving booster packs
    Body part/clothe related
    The Countdown Is at One
    The 1/2 power creatures/donkeys
    Players outside the game
    Throwing cards in the air
    Flavor Judge
    Rules Lawyer
Gleemax (impossible to loose with that out)
Not sure but the mini game cards are probably out (example Head to Head)
Keeper of the sacred word (there’s no way in hell they will let this easy infinite +3/+3 creature)

I was kinda hoping augment and host would have been implemented for Innistrads skaab zombies I think it would have been a perfect fit for Frankenstein like creations.

I'm just gonna ask, due to the art, is this the first connection to left over eldrazi stuff on the plane?
No, that would be Waildrifter or Drownyard Amalgam.

Are they? One's a spirit and based on Eldritch Moon they didn't seem to be affected while the other the flavor text alludes to that tentacle arm being a random piece stitchers used as they ran out of human parts, so it could be any sea creature/monster.

Some of the Gryfs were corrupted Wretched Gryff is at least one example. I don't think that Waildrifter is an eldrazi spirit though.

I love the art on the fang series. I've said this before but I think we are going to see an Orzhov and a Golgari vampire legend Edgar most likely is going to be our Orzhov one.

    Some more visuals.

As for the vampire representatives, the Falkenrath is clearly Anje, an the Stromkirk simply HAS to be Runo.

I'm thinking your right. I hope they have a cycle of duel colored vampires and he is Dimir, I could see Edgar being Orzhov or Mardu. If all four are legendary examples maybe the Markhov girl is Orzhov and the Voldoran Man is Golgari??? Did Katilda die in story when Olivia attacked she did say Katilda was invited to her wedding. Maybe Katilda is the returning character now as a vampire?
