    sorry witchbane orb

but the way the double character legend

noBody is talking about liesa and Sigarda? But this time more like gisa and geralf rather than brisela, voice of nightmares

and the card would present their reunion and working together again.

I think it'd be too soon for the sisters to have a combo. Both got a card in Midnight Hunt and if you were correct Liesa would also be receiving 3 versions all within a year which is usually something they only do for planeswalkers. It's more likely than not Hal and Alena who are getting the combo wambo.

Today's MTG Arena Announcements from the mothership, https://magic.wizards.com/en/articles/archive/magic-digital/mtg-arena-announcements-october-27-2021, strongly hint that two card names in Crimson Vow are Olivia, Crimson Bride and Sorin the Mirthless. Guess Olivia could be the Vampire Noble, but it really looks like she won't be in the duo card (I'm still betting on Hal and Alena or Ludevic and Olag).

Or maybe Thalia and Saint traft.

Btw the “A legendary character returns, but now as a vampire” could be a Sorin legendary creature… On other hints Maro uses “Lengendary Creature” but with this hint he specially said “Legendary Character” well, planeswalkers have now the legendary type, and if sorin loses his spark and is printed as a legendary creature, then he would be a Vampire this time…

Also the obvious guess for the mechanic is Bloodthirst

The could be giving Sorin similar technology as Grist, the Hunger Tide. If so it could have some fun interactions with Sorin, Imperious Bloodlord and Forerunner of the Legion as well as allowing him to be a commander. For the guild mechanic a part of me hopes they give haunt an upgrade like how chroma became devotion. It's super flavorful and with spirits getting a commander deck disturb is most likely not coming back.

Unless he's the secret include there's no Steve Crying my heart is broken lol. I think Eleven, Hop, and Will are my favorites. I think Will could make an interesting commander. I wish one of them was simic so we could have an all the things investigate deck.

    Waiting for Barb.

    I miss Barb.

I'm wondering how they're going to fit everyone in. I'm hoping Steve is going to make it in so I can have a deck with him and Dustin lol. I think 5 color Eleven is going to be a fun deck to make spamming ultimatums every time she attacks sounds like fun.

I know people think it'll lessen the impact of the SOI story but I found the deaths of Avacyn, Gisela, and Bruna as kind of insulting and pointless but I think that's more of a me thing.

Insulting and pointless? I don't get why some people take the deaths of fictional characters so personally.

Personally I believe that you can't have a (good) story with stakes but without consequences, a game wizards wants to play too often. The guildpact got dissolved and most of the guilds dismantled by civilian uprisings? Whoops it's all back! Zendikar got almost destroyed by the Eldrazi? Well, it's entirely undone on the next revisit. The only plane that didn't get a get-out-of-jail-for-free ticket was Mirrodin, but to be fair that's because the plane was concepted as a return to phyrexia, something that simply wasn't realized on the first visit.

Nahiri summoned the most powerful of the eldrazi titan trio to Innistrad, because she wanted to lay the plane to waste and get at Sorin. Considering it all, the death of most of the archangels and the destruction of the plane's capital, the consequences to Innistrad are okay. Lasting, noticeable damage without completely disfiguring the plane beyond recognition. All things considered, I think it's in a good spot, narratively speaking. Shadows over Innistrad feels like it happened. Battle for Zendikar didn't.

Really, the problem isn't Wizards being too destructive or not destructive enough. The problem is that they want to have their cake and eat it too. Have epic storylines with the stakiest of stakes, but none of the consequences. We got a total killcount of 3 during War of the Spark, one of which happened offscreen (I'm not considering the trailers on-screen), one of which was a villain (does that even count as a killcount then?) and one of which sacrificed himself and wasn't, yknow, killed. What a narrative disaster. Now people are quick to jump to "you're just bloodthirsty, you monster", but the point is that it wasn't me who forced Wizards to have an epic war of planeswalkers. But if they want to do that, and don't do it right, then I am going to call them out on that.

TL;DR: The deaths of the archangels wasn't pointless and insulting. In fact, Innistrad was one of the better handled "staked" storylines in Magic's history, a balanced compromise between lasting damage and keeping the plane intact for future visits.

The archangels deaths had no barring on the plot though and there transformation really wasn’t necessary either. Bruna, Gisela, and Sigerda were all active during avacyns confinement in the helvault and the plane was still in disaster. To my knowledge there are no eldrazi remnant on the plane so brissela would have been gone regardless of whether they were killed or not. The only difference between now and the dark ascension era of Innistrad is the moon. Avacyns death was just a plot device to get the plane back to square one just as ulamogs and kozileks were and plenty people were angry over that. I enjoy the monsters of Innistrad but I feel the lore of avacyn made for an interesting backdrop against it which I don’t really get with sigarda.

In the planeswalker's guide, there's paragraph titled "AVACYN'S COLLAR, THE SYMBOL OF HER CHURCH". I think they are in on the meme.

I do not see this as a meme. I see the planeswalker guide as a hint. For me, its gives us the clue what will happen at the end of the third Innistrad block, at least from the angelic point of view. I think, Avacyn will return at the end of the block, the righteous and benevolent Avacyn I love so much. But I think she will be less powerful than in AVR and she will no longer be Sorins slave. The first clue for me that Avacyn is still floating around was double masters. In the flavour text of her box topper version they wrote that she lives on in the minds of the people, in her true benevolent and pure nature. The repair of Avacyns symbols are another clue. Normally it would have been logical to create a Sigardian church and gave it new symbols, but they restored the old Avacynian symbols as good as they could, because she still offers the people of Innistrad hope. The planeswalkers guide also mentions Sigarda and Avacyn. Sigarda did not like Avacyn because Avacyn killed Liesa. But Sigarda alone is not strong enough to prevent that Innistrad will be thrown into eternal darkness. So she buys the world enough time setting up for Avacyns resurrection. Another clue is Arlinns behaviour in Markov Manor. She still prays to Avacyn - even though everyone thinks she is lost forever. The next clue is the story about Liesas return. Liesa felt like an outsider among the angels, but now she found a human worshipper with Algli and she feels good. And the word hope is mentioned more than once in this story. And hope on Innistrad has only one name, Avacyn. I guess that will help her to work closer together with the other angels in the future or she will understand Avacyn better. I think Liesa will meet with Sigarda and at the end the two will make the desicion to work closer together with Avacyn in the future. I guess Avacyn will return somehow to the living through a pagan ritual and with the help of all the positive memories and all the believe her former worshippers still have. Avacyn´s church will be reunited under the banner of the three angels Avacyn, Sigarda and Liesa, thats my theory.

I have a musing/hope that they are going to bring her back and give her a spark. I know that Angels aren't supposed to have a spark but they've already made exceptions for a golem, a demon, and a devil. My theory is if they do bring her back in this way it'll be tied to the moon. When the moon is full it returns her to Innistrad and when it's not it will actually repel her from the plane so that she's there when they need her most but still gives the monsters a fighting chance. Or Emerakul's influence still affects her and she can't stay on the plane very long before madness sets in and she has to leave every now and then. I know people think it'll lessen the impact of the SOI story but I found the deaths of Avacyn, Gisela, and Bruna as kind of insulting and pointless but I think that's more of a me thing.

Can someone (anyone) explain wtf is that clue token supposed to even be? Confused

I think it’s supposed to be a broken scarecrow. Granted it doesn’t fit with cards with investigate in the set except maybe the tracker. It probably would’ve been cooler for an empty coffin.

Interesting choice of names. Kurbis is basically "pumpkin" in German (just written "kürbis").

The Sigardian cards look nice, I wondee why there was almost no mention of Sigardian church in the main set, so now we know.

I actually wish they doubled down on it in the commander set as well. It was refreshing to see a new aspect of human tribal.

Was the Jerren in this video Jerren, Corrupted Bishop? I would have thought he died at the hands of the demon, instead of werewolves.
Ah, so that's his name. Well, Jerren from the cards is the demon bishop, not Heron's Grace orphanage master so idk

He was so handsome I thought that it was Cosper Lowe Grin Come on, make a card for Cosper Lowe and Jenrik's geist at least!

I don’t think Cosper would be a jerk though like that guy. For me if/when they make his card it better be awesome. Commander playable and handsome art work!

    Kinda sad she's not mardu
    Kinda sad she's booster exclusive
But she is really a cool commander

    Let’s see

    https://scryfall.com/search?q=type:curse&order=color&as=grid

    5 white curses
    6 blue curses
12 black curses (2 are DFC)
    9 red curses
    2 green curses

looks like grixis is the correct colors to me for Lynde

but if you want white this could be 99 for Ishai, Ojutai Dragonspeaker // Vial Smasher the Fierce or whatever yore-tiler partner combo

I think it’s mostly cuz you lose access to Ardenn, Intrepid Archaeologist which moves curses around. That being said this card is very flavorful hopefully we get to see unluckiest on a card someday!

Super annoyed that Werewolf support isn't being fully focused on R/G...what gives WOTC!

There is only one blue and one white werewolf, and three black werewolves. The rest will all RG. We've already seen more RG werewolves than not, and from the looks of it there are still several werewolves cards yet to come.

We still need the werewolf that births more wolves/werewolves (like a Master of the Wild Hunt werewolf variant or Dragon Broodmother variant etc.) So hoping to see those soon.

There are werewolves in White/Black/Blue that you mentioned that have effects that would have been amazing to see in R/G. The tribe needs lots of support!

I’m kinda bugged about it too. I think it all depends on how many dfcs there are. From what I’ve seen most sets that contain them have somewhere between 15-35 dfcs. Two of the tribes in this set are also heavily tied to the transform mechanic which means they should have most of the share of the dfcs. I don’t know currently it seems like werewolves will heavily have to rely on tovolar to make the older ones work in commander.

Yeah exactly, of the WW we've seen so far here are the top 5 that will actually end up going into the commander deck:
    - Tovolar
    - Kessig Naturalist
    - Arlin
    - Unnatural growth (not a creature)
    - Reckless Stormseeker

seems kinda....uninspiring in a set full of werewolves? did I get any wrong here?

Yeah so far we’ll have to see. I think they may be trying to diversify to amp up the feel in limited and standard that there are werewolves everywhere but I am still hopeful will see some cool werewolves in the homestretch. I have a feeling they’ll diversify vampires in crimson vow as well but it won’t be as bad because we have a plethora of legendary vampires in all sorts of color arrangements.

Do you know what getting rid of Core Set means? It means that every set's associated precons are Commander. I hate that. Can't they just release 2 Commander Decks and 2 Planeswalker Decks? Y'know, give new players the choice?

We used to have 24 preconstructed decks that you could buy for under $25 after taxes. You have the 20 Intro Packs and the 4 duel decks, well 2 sets of 2 duel decks. All we have in 2021 are the 2 Arena Starter Kit decks, and the next cheapest option would be the $30 challenger decks.

We also don't know how much the Innistrad midnight Hunt commander decks will cost, but a store is selling it for $85 on preorder.

Cardfight Vanguard has $5 Start Decks. They aren't half decks or decks where you have to do something to make a complete deck. They are full 50 card decks. There are also 5 to choose from. That's cheap, and you get some choices. In 2021, Yugioh has 4 choices of under $15 precon decks and Pokemon has 6 choices. MTG only has 2, well you buy the thing and you get both in the form of the Arena Starter Kit. Anything else is higher than $20.

Because Commander is so popular, WOTC has no incentive to make Standard good anymore. Just keep on selling $50 commander decks, and keep releasing standard sets that people will buy without even thinking about the health of the format.

If I made a game, and someone else took my game, changed the rules a bit, and now everybody else is playing my game by the new rules, while I am desperately trying to get new players to play by my rules, I'd give up, and get people to play by the new rules, because that is where the money is.

There are deck construction rules, like 60-card, 100 card singleton, 40 card limited, and the gameplay rules, like your base rules, Commander, Vanguard, Archenemy, and Planechase. I've said this before. WOTC is over supporting Commander because they lack the confidence to make the base rules better than Commander. They aren't trying anymore.

You want reprints? Try our $10 a pack masters sets.

I'm pretty sure I already read this rant with the almost exact same words somewhere else multiple times. If you're so much upset of how the game is today, maybe is better for you to not play it at all anymore and let the other people enjoy it.

Let me guess, you are ok with WOTC charging double price for a product targeted for new players compared to their competitors, and you are ok with WOTC pandering to one format at the detriment of another. As long as their introductory products, that cost $30 to $50 caters towards bringing in more Commander players, that means that those players won't even try to even play any format that use the base rules, either because the cards are expensive, or they lose all the time. With that in mind, why would WOTC even try to give the effort in making Standard better? With the crappy standard, people would just quit standard and go to Commander, and thus WOTC would support Commander even more, and thus put even less effort into Standard, or any other base rules format, and those players would flock to commander, and thus WOTC supports Commander even more, and thus puts even less effort into standard...

But let's say we live in a scenario where Standard is completely dead. It's all Commander. Remember how the Zendikar Rising and Kaldheim Commander decks costed $25 each? The idea of $25 Commander decks are long gone. I predict that every future Commander deck will be the $50 variety. And they say that these are supposed to replace the Planeswalker decks? Do you know what should have replaced Planeswalker Decks? Almost something that cost just as much as them. Theme boosters are utter trash. I wish they just brought back Theme Decks.

WOTC is thinking about money. Short term gain for long term pain.

You know how we all laugh at those who are saying that Magic is dying? Well in a way it is dying. People would rather play by its alternate rules than its base rules.

From what I read, Pioneer is a dead format, and thus the Pioneer decks will most likely be a one year occurrence. I just hope there are 60-card preconstructed products to replace them, and if they replace them with yet another set of Commander decks, expect another rant.

In my opinion pioneer is dying due to two reasons, the rona and historic. I think a lot of people like myself started around return to ravnica days and have physical collections that they can’t really play with. My lgs hasn’t returned to paper magic and last I was there was using the play area as storage. (It’s still doing very well cuz it also is a comic book store). Historic on arena is a lot easier to get into in my opinion than pioneer would be on mtgo. I think they’re are focusing on commander for two reasons. You can still play commander with family and friends even if you can’t go to an lgs. The other is fairly obvious $$$. I do agree with the idea that they should have digital redemption codes in all of their products.

Correct me if I’m wrong but I believe that you can cast this in combat after decayed tokens have dealt damage while their sacrifice trigger is on the stack.

if so, pretty decent for limited

I think you’re right within the combat phase there’s a step where combat damage is applied and then a step for end of combat. I think as long as you put this on the stack before the decay triggers it should work.
