You are very far from guaranteed a hit that actually protects her on the -3, and the +1 only protects her long enough for a -3 if she was going to live either way. Hell, I doubt for 5 mana I would play a card that did her -3 and her +1, and gained me 3 life at the same time, let alone split across 2.5 turns.
At least Kaya has removal and actually protects a creature. She's not great, but functional.
You don't think you'll hit something going 7 deep into your library? I guess we'll have to agree to disagree.
I don't think 7 cards deep is going to hit something that protects her reliably.. Reading is an advanced skill apparently.
Oh geeze now you're going to try and mock me. In standard Brutal Cathar and Skyclave Apparition could do the job fairly reliably. I don't know what card you know of that could fade exile removal. I could be completely wrong but I have a feeling it could do something special if it doesn't that's fine I still think it's an awesome card. But I'm done talking to you have a nice day.
That's two cards. I wouldn't call having a 50% chance to spend 2 extra mana to get a shield counter on a 2/2 that temporarily removes one target something reliably protects a 5 mana planeswalker that goes down to 2 loyalty at sorcery speed.
I didn't try to mock you. You're the one who typed your post, not me.
You just said reading was too advanced of a skill for me, how else should I take that lol. I don't think we are ever going to see eye to eye on this so I am done discussing with you.

Ashnod's Altar + Undying Evil + Cornela.
Infinite blue and red for instants and sorceries, infinite colorless for everything. Any outlet wins the game.
Alas, undying only allows for one revive, you'd have to get the counter off. I can't think of anything off the top of my head that would work for this.
I think it works with Demonic Gifts unless I'm reading something wrong. You can loop her for a giant Fireball or pick a storm card you like.
Wow wiz hates maestros. No wonder Ob took it over, it's the weakest faction. Guild ability is crap, charm is crap, this card is trash. At least the (now dead) leader was pretty powerful.
man your blind as a bat
this is a enchantment version of kess and you know damn well she’s a Cedh commander
Kess is only CEDH-worthy because she doesn't make you sac creatures to recur any spells. Maestros Ascendancy makes you sac creatures, which is an annoying cost to pay at times.
We are in a standard though where we have creatures like pests and decayed zombies that want to die. Sedgemoor Witch also will replace the pest each time. I can see a Grixis/Maestros Magecraft deck that could be fun.
Just awful. Her +1 is almost worthless, her -3 is alright, but not really that great, and her ultimate is kinda meh, but serviceable. At least each art for her is amazing.
I don't know I think people are sleeping on this card. The fact she can go 7 deep to look for something I think is amazing. I think if they ever make a Flickerwisp that returns immediately or Felidar Guardian that costs 3 you could make an army in 60 card formats that have a layer of protection on them. I think it's still has some synergy with Flickerwisp as it resets her each turn. and I think the +1 is more decent then people give it credit for because the buff is permanent.
Five mana for a +1/+1 counter and an ability counters is an awful rate. It doesn't protect herself or the creature you target, so likely only good when you're already ahead. There are plenty of cards in standard that give out +1/+1 counters like candy, many of which do it for much, much less than 5 mana.
Five mana to get a 3 or smaller drop with a shield counter on it is not great either. Shield counters don't protect from the most commons forms of removal (exile, sacrifice, -X/-X). I doubt that standard will have a card this combos with. They certainly aren't giving us a strictly better version of a card that got banned in standard recently, like Felidar Guardian, while also giving us a card to combo with it. Even Flickerwisp with this is a do nothing synergy. It just makes her -3 into a 0 once.
Finally, in order to use her ultimate, you need to have two turns in a row where you can safely +1 her, which means you're already ahead. In that scenario, using her ult is actually not that strong of a play, as it walks right into any board wipe they may be holding.
She's very win more, but not exactly strong even then. She doesn't shorten the clock much while you're ahead, she doesn't provide much value in an even game, and she struggles badly when you're behind. I can't think of any reasonable board state where she is better than The Wanderering Emporer or even Kaya the Inexorable.
Yeah but I think that you have to think of it as not as +1 for 5 mana but a -3 and +1 for 5. I do admit that the ultimate is crap and that the Emperor is better, but I think she is definitely better than Kaya.

The second ability is the best
The 1st one seems okay
It's still a mystery that Elspeth can rise to death and travel to different planes
I miss Gideon too bad his dead forever and no afterlife
I am not a Vorthos expert but it is heavily implied by Heartwarming Redemption that he went to the magic equivalent of Elysium so he has an afterlife but it was better than the underworld and a more permanent afterlife so at least he's happy even though he's out of the story.
Nope, Heartwarming Redemption has been confined to be more of death vision similar to Gerrard and Jeska seeing their loved ones as they died. Planeswalkers souls end up in whatever afterlife the plane they die on are on. To note as of the mending agyrem dissolved and people who die on Ravnica who don't stay on as ghost move on into the aether.
Theros version of Elysium is called Ilysia and is the green section of the theros underworld where heroes and those who died unjustly go and this where Elspeth was before she escaped.
Gotcha. I only get into the lore at certain times lol so I must have missed something somewhere.

I think that her -3 is really good in a lot of ways. It can get her a protector that has invulnerability for one shot of removal or it can help look for combo pieces. 7 cards is huge amount of cards to dig through and it puts it on board too. I think there’s better places for the effect of her ultimate but I am hyped for this card.
If you’re referring to Lord Gyor’s comment on knowing the face commander I believe he is basing it off of the side characters from the online stories released.
So Maro I think may have been throwing us off a bit. He said there would be multiple cards that let white draw a card each turn. But today we got Raffine, Scheming Seer which has the Obcsura keyword of connive which allows you to draw x then discard x and then put x +1/+1 counters on it. I'm thinking he's talking about it being on white cards. I think the ability could be interesting with Containment Construct madness, and reanimator.
pyea he did it again
when he said white cards he mean't multicolor colors with atleast white in them.
Hopefully I'm wrong lol. I could see the brokers being political in nature and you could give effects to your opponents to draw cards or create treasures. But I think we will have some mono white cards with connive as well.

Cornela + Storm-Kiln Artist + free sac outlet + Demonic Gifts
Cornela + Pawn of Ulamog/Pitiless Plunderer + free sac outlet + Demonic Gifts
Goryo's Vengeance Exhume and Reanimate can be substituted for demonic gifts I believe.
