So with the release of m19, do you guys think Poisin-Tip Archer has any place over slimefoot or zulaport? Reach is good because eldrazi monument is my only flyer protection, and the fact that if someone goes to board-wipe, I probably just win the game, or atleast its a big deterrent to wiping.
Not even a single "shuffle this back into your library if it hits the yard" dude? Even Worldspine Wurm does this...
Why would you waste deck slots on cards that are useless to draw and useless to mill?
Because OP states he's running out of gas. At least this would ensure he's not decking himself out. At least not straight away, anyway.
Sorry, but im going to agree with Prid3 here. If I'm running out of gas, I don't want to put a dead draw in my deck, and im probably not going through my entire deck anyway if im out of gas (and TBH id rather deck myself then let an opponent take me out). Im looking for something that puts more usable cards into my hand or my yard.
Sweet mini primer, really appreciate all the effort you put into sharing your knowledge! Would definitely build the mono blue mill build if money currently were not a restraint.
Mesmeric Orb should be in here, no matter what cards or colours you choose.
Even if you play nothing at all, just tap your lands during your opponents' end step.
There is no better self-mill card than Hermit Druid.
It's a banned card in legacy, so consider if your group is cool with your deck only having 1 or 2 basic lands to setup something degenerate.
Unfortunately $20 a card is a little more than I'd like to be spending. And as I said earlier, I'm restricted to modern legal cards. So good suggestions, just not for me.
Innistrad was probably my favorite block, and I had a sweet Splinterfright self mill deck that I loved, still does great 1v1 but I was hoping to make it a little more viable at taking on multiple opponents.
The main issue I have is running out of gas. Think Twice works with the graveyard flashback theme but seems just like a cycle card, not sure how good it is. Some way to get creatures out of the graveyard into my hand would be good, but cant think of anything in U/G off the top of my head. Should I consider adding in black for reanimation?
Maybe cutting blue entirely for some of the B/G mill cards, adding in Stitcher's Supplier, Mortivore and such...
Not really sure where to go with this, open to any and all suggestions!
Thanks guys!
(Please keep suggestions to the modern legal card pool
1. Yes. Zualport Cutthroat is also bonkers.
2. Yes to good, no to swap. If anything I would cut your 1 drops and play these kinds of cards instead (no mana dorks/ramp).
3. Plots is heinous and should be cut. Things like Shamanic Revelation are vastly superior.
4. Sprawl is amazing but I'd rather see you employ the Rites/Song plan given that this is a token deck.
5. It's a reasonable 1-2 of. Card is immensely powerful once it gets going.
6. I wouldn't touch either with a 10-foot pole.
Ive updated the deck to include the suggestions. Just seems with no mana dorks/utopia sprawl, it'll take a little to long for my mana ramp to come online and no 1 drops that the deck is a little slow. And because I cut the dorks does that make my mana math change (less 1 drops, less ramp) so up from 20 to 24 lands?
So I've gone ahead and changed the name of the thread to suit the direction that i'm going, Mono Green Saprolings.
(should I remove this and just start a new thread?)
What else would you critique within the constraint of Saproling tokens and modern legal cards?
(Doubling Season with the spore counter thalid would be cool but doubling season is out of my price range atm)
I had been meaning to reply, but saw you are in good hands with Prid3. I did want to say that I never regret getting two cards in hand, Crater Hellion and Primal Command. If you are running big critters, one gets you to what you want plus one other effect, and the other cleans up the riff raff while small enough in damage to keep your bigs in play plus a relevant body if you pay the echo.
They may not fit your list, but they greatly help me in the list below. Prid3 helped me with this through his critiques, and it’s a lot of fun within my meta (and very successful). I only included the list to show exactly what I was getting at with the two suggested cards, not to say “change everything to mine!” I probably play in a less-competitive meta. Good luck.
Thanks for the advice and list man! (Although this list will probably help improve my opponents hydra deck more than mine :P) And isnt Anger of the gods just better than Crater Hellion? Primal Command seems cool, and ill probably sideboard it in if im finding myself needing a little bit of life gain/ more interaction!
Since Prid3 just posted a great Young Pyromancer + Monastery mentor list, im going to try to get a reasonable elemental list going with Omnath, Locus of Rage. (However there was a landfall thread posted recently, and thats probably a better route to go, with Titania, Protector of Argoth and The Gitrog Monster)
As you already know, I absolutely love the deck idea! I really appreciate you creating this little primer for it, and saving me (and you) from so many questions.
I do have one though, What do you think of Ready//Willing In the heroic intervention slot? More intensive casting cost, and no hexproof, But you get to untap for another couple sprout swarms maybe? And the Willing half can be cast with orchard in situations when you just need a few life, or to kill a big creature.
And I thought I had it reasonably slimmed down. The Naya Plan with Sprout Swarm, Benefactor's Draught(EDIT* Not modern legal... There isnt a draw spell as good as this:/) and Monastery Mentor does seem bonkers, and probably the direction ill end up going.
However I do really like Omnath, Locus of Rage he obviously synergies well with Young Pyromancer but is the 7 cmc just too much? Especially because i want to utilize him with a 6cmc Hostility? Or is there some way that to field that synergy? Im totally okay with the deck having an win rate less than 25% in a 4 player meta, as my overall winrate with my group is probably above 50% and I think its starting to make me a prime target in every game.
Not a big fan of knights as a tribe but cannot wait to work Corpse Knight into a token deck.

My current thought is to acquire some Grim Flayer and make a B/G version of the deck with Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord, Stitcher's Supplier and maybe a Multani, Yavimaya's Avatar
I do really like the idea of Mirror-Mad Phantasm, Probably as a 1 off though. Thanks!
Yeah... Guess having it in the signature isnt good enough =P

I think im going to make two versions of the deck, one U/G and one B/G to include Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord.
I have made slight adjustments to the deck:
-4 Dream Twist +4 Tracker's Instincts
-4 Ambush viper +4 Mouth // Feed
Innistrad was probably my favorite block, and I had a sweet Splinterfright self mill deck that I loved, still does great 1v1 but I was hoping to make it a little more viable at taking on multiple opponents.
4x Boneyard Wurm
4x Ghoultree
4x Hedron Crab
4x Kessig Cagebreakers
4x Satyr Wayfinder
4x Splinterfright
2x Wasteland Viper
10x Forest
4x Hinterland Harbor
6x Island
Instant (6)
4x Tracker's Instincts
2x Gnaw to the Bone
4x Artful Dodge
4x Mouth // Feed

Thanks for the response!

Cut the lord for Zulaport Cutthroat just seems better.
As for sprout swarm, no just that I don't have any in my paper card pool so it just didn't occur to me.
Could you just critique my numbers?
(should I remove this and just start a new thread?)
2x Mycoloth
4x Slimefoot, the Stowaway
2x Zulaport Cutthroat
4x Tendershoot Dryad
Artifact
2x Eldrazi Monument
Enchantment
4x Song of Freyalise
2x Beastmaster Ascension
2x Cryptolith Rite
4x Parallel Lives
4x Beast Within
2x Heroic Intervention
2x Spore Swarm
2x Sprout Swarm
Land
11x Forest
1x Overgrown Tomb
4x Temple of Malady
4x Windswept Heath
2x Saproling Migration
2x Shamanic Revelation
My questions now are, is (1) Slimefoot, The Stowaway worth the splash of black?
(2) Is Song of Freyalise any good/ worth putting in over Cryptolith Rite?
(3) Is Fungal Plots just bad card draw? What would be better? (Restricted to modern)
(4) Should I try going up to four of Utopia Sprawl?
(5) Is Beastmaster Ascension anygood here?
(6) Worth putting in Champion of Lambholt to push through damage? Or Essence Warden for incremental life-gain?
