He comes down the turn before a Mutilate or Supreme Verdict, so he can be great for a B/W Aggro to protect you from a board wipe. It's not a great card, but it's solid.

no current b/w aggro, and if you are an aggro deck, turn 3 is where you want to drop a threat, not a 2/1.

How is no one mentioning the swine? That card is insane, no chance it will wheel

Darkthicket Wolf was so good because when you used the ability as pseudoevasion, it hit for 2 without you needing to spend any mana on it. Only hitting for 1 if you don't spend mana is a big difference.

Thank you! At least someone gets why that card was good.

I chose the Unblockable rogue. It seems like there are so many ways to abuse unblockability. Yes, flying is another form of evasion, but there are more creatures with flying that are playable then there are rogues in other colors. This also doesn't lock you into dimir, you could be simic or orzhov which both can abuse this (+1+1 counters and enchantments).

Also, on extort, I think this is THE MOST OVERRATED mechanic. Not only does it not matter how many extort creatures you have in play, it also requires you play multiple spells with mana available to abuse it. Yes, an average extort creature could net you about a 4-8 point life swing, but i feel like having a creature to abuse that is probably better on its own and a somewhat non-restrictive casting cost is a much better pick

You guys are over evaluating mind grind in limited. Assuming your deck is 42-46% land, x=5 on t7 should only hit about 12 cards total. In m12, there were mind sculpt decks, but you didnt see that as being broken. After a t7 hit with this, 40-12-7-7= 14 cards still left in their deck... thats plenty. It would ahve to be paired with more mill spells, which, dont get me wrong, there will be. But i dont think its the insta-win that everyones making it out to be

    Some orzhov artifact

You may pay 0 to extort

I also like the idea of oblivion ring with extort, thats a beautiful card.

Yes, if they print more good cards with this mechanic I'm thinking a RWb Token deck with Hellrider and Falkenwrath Aristocrat could be a really strong deck. Think 1-3 CMC creatures that do something similiar along with Lingering Souls tokens and Intangible Virtue. Throw in Thundermaw Hellkite too. Basically a haste token deck that damages a player just by attacking. Though I wouldn't play this particular card in it, as Hellrider and Aristocrat are much better 4 drops.

But that deck is good with those cards you listed and dont need this card. It causes you to overextend and doesnt win by itself where as a hellkite or hellrider can deal far more damage and end the game. or even by themselves and doesnt cause you to get blown out by a wrath affect. A guild mechanic that forces you to over extend, does not seem good.

All I do is limited. I did 4 prereleases, and have already done at least 15 drafts with high limited experienced players. Rakdos is the strongest. It is so aggressive that By the time your opponent is able to stabilize, he is probably an Explosive Impact or removal spell away from dying. Also, splashing blue for overload spells, like the one that gives your opponents creatures -2-0 and must attack, as well as Teleportal in these aggressive decks, are just insane and should auto win you the game. The g/w decks, with populate or not, are very very consistant because all it does is play creature after creature, which is really what you want to do in limited. Also, these creatures are usually very cost affective (3/3 for 2 and 3). However, they are very vulnerable to tricks and especially, overload spells. Street spasm and of course mizzium mortars against the g/w decks can lead to very awkward board states, but bounce spells and detain can also really hose these decks. G/W just doesnt have enough powerful non-creature spells consistently to back up its infinite creatures. Again, these are very high variance examples i am giving, and g/w is a very powerful deck, but i believe that rakdos with any amount on shredfreaks, splatter thugs, thrill-kills, and dred revelers, is close to unbeatable with a consistent curve and only a few removal spells

    Green
    1 Chorus of Might
    1 Giant Growth
    1 Stonefare Crocodile

    Gold
    1 Rakdos Ringleader
    1 Rix Maadi Guildmage
    2 Rakdos Shred-Freak
    1 Sluiceway Scorpion

    Land
    1 Overgrown Tomb
    1 Transguild Promenade

Got lazy on the mana, but my experience with rakdos has been very good. This pool aso gives you the late game that the "all in" rakdos deck needs

I think mana bloom is the safest pick. Really REALLY weak pack. Doesn't commit you at all, its fixing/ramp, mainly fixing.

  • posted a message on Pre-Release Guild Choice
Choosing which guild to use does not mean you have to use that guild in your deck. The only guarantee is that you get the prerelease card to use. Because thats the only thing guaranteed, i feel like that should be the only thing deciding your choice. The guild packs, I assume, are filled with cards only with that guilds watermarks. You can use this to calculate which you think would help a eck the most (rakdos for removal spells, izzet for overload cards which are great in limited). They have actually done a very good job of choosing balanced prerelease cards, so you just have to try to evaluate which would be the best in this format because it is the only guarantee

I think its definitely an aggressive Red/Black build.
A lot of under costed unleash guys, tons of removal, to street spasms?! A couple bombs.
I could definitely see a green splash for the key and puting in the lure creatures to get your big guys through is awesome
